Re: UNH Wildcats 2013-14 Season Thread

Jumbotron song (apologies to Janis Joplin)

Oh, Lord, won't you buy us a Jumbo-tron?
Our foes all have one, we must have one, too.
Played hard all our lifetimes, no hardware from our foes,
So, Lord, won't you buy us a Jumbo-tron?

Was it the moonshine or too much egg nog last night, Snively?? :D

FWIW I'd love to see upgraded scoreboard capacity, but I would rather see the focus on on-ice improvements first. The rest would fall into place thereafter. For now though ... barring a corporate benefactor(s) and/or rich UNH Hockey alum(s) awash in NHL cash (not too sure who that would be; Ty Conklin? Daniel Winnik?? ) it would seem the short-term focus for any available funding for UNH athletics would be headed across the street to upgrade the Football facilities to the level of the local NHIAA HS programs in Exeter and Portsmouth. And frankly, it's increasingly difficult to make the argument against that (and in favor of Hockey) on the basis of merit.

Hate to rain on the parade, especially when I'd love to see if happen, but just don't see it coming for at least another 3-5 seasons. :(

Chuck my hubby and I had a spirited convo about 'if we won Powerball' and I said of course we'd purchase a jumbotron for the 'Cats..this led to much eye rolling by my daughter who is a senior at UNH...
Anyhoo it would be a nice addition but like you said there are other things needed (like across the street). Right now I'd settle for an excellent second half, an excellent showing the the HE tourney, and a successful trip to the Regionals! Basically in that order...:D Bring on Florida!

Re: UNH Wildcats 2013-14 Season Thread

Looking at the website it shows the game is going to be on Sunday? Am I looking at that right? Go 'Cats!

I spoke with a representative of the Germain Arena and the Florida Everblades and he confirmed that the games will be streamed live. He also will inform America ONE Sports about the incorrect dates listed on their website.

Thanks Mike we can always count on you for excellent coverage and info regarding our Wildcats!

Going into Florida tournament, UNH is ranked #1 in Div 1, with Cornell at #18, Maine at #22, and Princeton way back at #43. I like our chances. :-)

On twitter this morning I saw where the team was honored at Logan airport for being the 29.6 millionth passengers or something to that effect! Yeah that's a good omen for the tourney! Go 'Cats!

Looks like they have fixed the dates on the America ONE website...all set for Sat night...

Re: UNH Wildcats 2013-14 Season Thread

My guess is that Snively is referring to the rank of each team's SOS ...........

OK thanks sonar, that makes sense. Was wondering if Snively was still suffering from the after-effects of brown bottle flu after that Jumbotron song thingie he graced us with the other night ... :p

Re: UNH Wildcats 2013-14 Season Thread

'Cat's still can't get it done, losing to Cornell tonight 4-2 despite umpteen number of PP opportunities. I don't even want to comment on their SOG's.

I'm not getting a warm and fuzzy about the second half of the season.

Unfortunately, they are just an average team. Umile said they have played "well". What is he going to say now. They have a losing record.

At least UNH Hockey's annual version of "Groundhog Day" spiced things up with a tropical set this time around.

I also get the feeling we've all seen this movie before, and I don't think we're going to like the ending. :( :(

But cheer up guys - tomorrow's consolation game shapes up as a stats-padding 5-1 thumping to get the 'Cats back to .500!!

Sadly, I suspect the only way the boys will be getting to the TD Garden this March is with paid admissions.

I'm gonna call it right now: Either 6th or 7th place in HE, losing in the quarterfinals. No NCAA's. Sorry, but until they figure out how to put the puck in the net against quality competition that's the way I see it.

fwiw, I have no idea why UNH's goal was disallowed. Was sitting Iles-side on the play, near some old UML boosters. All of us thought: good goal.

Forget the eng, it was a 3-3 game, as I saw it. Not that PWR cares, admittedly...

The Pesce goal was disallowed supposedly for high sticking...Anyway we had our chances but they have to find a way as Scott said to score. Don't want to read that they "competed well" in another loss...sick of reading that.
Time to find it deep inside to rise above that; can't imagine they accept mediocrity. Let's go 'Cats!

UNH remains #1, but after that debacle, Cornell moves up to #13 and Maine up to #15, with Princeton dropping down to a tie for #56 (in SOS). Amazingly, UNH remains at #20 in RPI.

Anyone else see Redford in the recent film "All Is Lost"?
