UNH football success likely to raise money:

"It gives us a great push," Scarano said.

"People who want their sons to get a quality education and play football are attracted to us," Scarano said. "The thing is about UNH, all of us understand the academic mission and integrity of the mission, and we work within it.

"We're never going to compromise that to win championships."

So, has UNH (NH) Admissions refused to consider any football player applications on a par with Leleggia or Gaudreau?

Jameis Winston was apparently very interested, but Admissions wouldn't consider his late application.

As disappointed as I am for Brett, I am glad that he will be able to play in the next four games for the Cats, which are all critical for our PWR, I think.

Ditto the sentiment...! Proud of him nonetheless as I'm sure we all are on this board!

Merry Christmas everyone. I hope Santa slides down the chimney in April and brings you a national title (if he doesn't bring one for BC this year).

Well thank you Nick ! That would be very nice indeed! Merry Christmas to all of you peeps who have been teaching me the ins and outs of the college game...and on another note read that the Nebraska head coach was suspended today for 3 games for an NCAA violation. Here's the story:

ps not trying to be malicious btw!

You make some great points and especially about the women's frozen four in a couple years being at the Whitt. You'd think with a national event like that there should a jumbotron. While not necessary, it is definitely becoming the norm come tournament time and in a lot of college rinks. Do you know if they're considering getting one or if there is any fundraising going on to get one?

Ok, some quick half-*****ed research turned up $17 mil for the Jumbotron at the Rogers Center in Toronto back in 2005. But, it is also noted that the same size Jumbotron with LED technology would cost only $3 mil today. So, come on, Mahty, we ain't asking for a Mercedes Benz!

Re: UNH Wildcats 2013-14 Season Thread

OK ... with the team back in action this weekend down in Florida, we swing into the second half of the season with a tourney which presents UNH with an early challenge to start things off on the right foot after what has to be classified as a mediocre first half of the season. Traditionally, UNH usually hasn't managed their return to action games at this stage of the season particularly well, and while it's easy to pass that off as "being rusty" etc. that obviously begs the question, well, isn't the opposition just as rusty in these games?

It's an interesting stretch that lies ahead of UNH, with their next 7 games being non-conference games (despite a possible match-up against UMaine this Sunday evening), before finishing up the regular season with 10 Hockey East games. The most compelling issue looking ahead at these games is that after this weekend, the Wildcats will be playing 10 of their next 12 games at The Whitt, with one of the other two games being against Dartmouth in Manchester. UNH then finishes up with 3 road games, one against BU and two with a Merrimack team which has not exactly been up to its recent standards so far this season.

I'd personally really like to see this team break character and come out quickly with a pair of wins this weekend, and parlaying that into what hopefully would be 5-6 wins during this initial 7 game non-conference stretch. Is this realistic? Is the team experienced enough to play consistently well enough to move from being the mediocre .500 team they currently are, and forge a bona fide identity as a legit contender for HE honors and an NCAA berth? Or will there be more inconsistent play, with the team hovering at or around .500 and leaving themselves with the "OK we'll just have to win the HE Tourney" route to the real postseason that's never quite panned out?

They certainly aren't going to be able to complain about the schedule not working in their favor from here on out if they can't raise their collective game to the point where many of us think they are capable of competing. Let the games begin. :)

Re: UNH Wildcats 2013-14 Season Thread

We certainly need to do better than we did in Hanover to finish up last December; wow, that was a tough drive in nasty road conditions to see the beginning of last year's second half collapse. Seems like yesterday. :-(

Looking forward to see how this second half goes as well! Hopefully they pull together some wins and avoid the slump of last year. Question...if they do meet Maine will this be considered a HE match up? Here's to a great second half and...beyond! Go 'Cats!

No, even if they end up playing Maine, it will still be considered a non-conference game. Only games against Maine on 1/24 and 1/25 will count as HE matchups.

Jumbotron song (apologies to Janis Joplin)

Oh, Lord, won't you buy us a Jumbo-tron?
Our foes all have one, we must have one, too.
Played hard all our lifetimes, no hardware from our foes,
So, Lord, won't you buy us a Jumbo-tron?
