Re: UNH Wildcats 2013-14 Season Thread

Maybe you misread that...Merrimack only has one hockey program right now and can't use the building for other events like the Whit can be.
Maybe you misread that. You asked why Merrimack has two rinks and I told you it's because of the Middlesex Islanders. boblav1 provided a link as further reference. What part of that don't you get?

Re: UNH Wildcats 2013-14 Season Thread

Wow I feel like I am back in middle school. I didn't see this many backhandeded remarks and indirect insults in my senior core in high school. I thought an online forum with adults wouldn't be an exclusive club where it turns into an all on one right when someone has a different opinion than an established member.

I was going to talk about how shot quality is perceived and no one team has "better" chances than another team over the course of a season. If you look at team shooting percentages over the last 2 full seasons (2010-11,2011-12) see how teams vary so much in their shooting percentages even though their team system is the same and the players are almost all the same.

I joined this forum because I really enjoyed a few posters that had a lot of really valuable insight (CHC in particular and Josh Cioccio on the old posts I read) But I can tell that's not really what this forum is. Its more of a club for the longtime posters. I tried to bring a different perspective to this board. I talk about possession and want to see what other posters think and instead I get a backhanded poll on why shots on goal aren't important. I thought it would be fun to post and see what everyone else on the board says but its not worth it for me at least.

CHC this is my last post so I would like to say that I really appreciate all the work you do to get information about all the recruits. Keep up the good work.

And I would like to announce my retirement from this thread. Something about staying off of Scott's lawn. My WIS-PC badge is in the mail.

;)

"Shot quality is perceived"???? With all due respect, you ARE trying TOO hard to jam statistical concepts where they do not fit. Square pegs, round holes, etc.

Sorry you feel the way you do about this forum being a so-called "exclusive club". I disappeared from this place for the better part of a decade due to other more important things going on in my life (I'm sure some people wish I'd stayed away :( :D ) and did so with zero fanfare (ditto on coming back). I'm not sure whether my "club" membership is in force or revoked, but I always thought (still do) this was a fun place to exchange views and debate with people who shared an interest in the subject (college hockey in general, UNH Hockey in particular), and if we disagreed, we were all big boys and girls, and no one was going to get hurt anyway.

So if you need to leave, then you gotta do what you gotta do. It sounds like you are still a student, and it does make for a nice melodramatic touch and all for you to let us all know you're basically taking your ball and going home. Just a hint though ... after school is done, you'll presumably be entering the workforce and when you do, you will have co-workers and so-called superiors who will likely disagree with some of your thoughts and opinions, and maybe even challenge your closely-held beliefs. Are you going to advocate for yourself and your beliefs ... or are you just going to leave and go somewhere where everyone pats you on the head, agrees with you and validates your opinions? Kinda like, you know ... that whole middle school/high school thingie you were just venting about??

Just sayin ... :)

Re: UNH Wildcats 2013-14 Season Thread

Major issues with that athletic department including hockey which isn't selling out like they did during my unh days

Might have something to do with their pricing out many fans, being behind the curve on cutting prices and offering deals after the economy tanked, and then jacking prices (or eliminating cheaper tickets to be more accurate) at the first signs of "green shoots." My season ticket renewal was 50% higher than last year, only to be told I was receiving a discount.

Most of us remember the kids who "took their bat and ball" and went home .... the trouble was they were usually the ones who could afford the bat/ball. Some things never change .........

Crazed unh fan don't leave, your insight is warranted.

I agree, please do not leave, Crazed.

Based on the box score, certainly looks like UNH put some rubber on Gillies in the first period tonight. Hope that those who were there can tell me that the Cats were not trying to sit on that 2-0 lead.

Re: UNH Wildcats 2013-14 Season Thread

Before coming to UNH, Matt Willows had 56 goals in 83 games in two seasons in the Eastern Junior Hockey League. Was leading scorer in EJHL in final season with 27 goals, 43 assists in 40 games. Looks like he might be finding his groove in the NCAA.

Re: UNH Wildcats 2013-14 Season Thread

I was at the game, score could easily been 6 nothing after the first, Gillies was great, even in the second period unh out played them , willows hit the pipe from point blank off the cross bar....however different story in third as unh looked like they were sitting on the lead...in fact Gillies left the game after 2 with leg injury..thought that it was all over but PC rallied...willows scores ot in the slot, but I think Gillies with his large frame stops that shot with ease..but I'll take the win , unh deserved it for there play in the first two periods

PC was horrendous in the first period and only slightly better in the second period. PC dominated the third and UNH didn't even test the PC backup in the third period who had played one game this season against AIC where he gave up 4.

UNH blocked a ton of PC shots which won them the game.

Re: UNH Wildcats 2013-14 Season Thread

So, sounds like for this game, at least, the box score and SOG pretty much tell the game story. Would be great to pick up another point or two tonight. Who will be in PC net? Go Cats!
