UNH Wildcats 2013-14 Season Thread

Re: UNH Wildcats 2013-14 Season Thread

I know this is a total fantasy and don't expect this to actually happen but wouldn't it be cool though to see something like this happen.
I was bored and had some spare time so I came up with this new rink idea.
I know I'm dreaming but it's still fun to imagine sometimes....

If UNH were to build a second sheet of ice/ arena behind the Whitt.
The new arena would be NHL size and it could become the home arena for the women's team.(Like some schools have been doing)
The two buildings would be connected so the two programs could share resources and the men's team would be able to practice on
the big sheet or the NHL size depending on where they are playing that weekend.(Like Minnesota does)
The Whitt would get some additions/ renovated. Particularly underneath with new locker rooms, offices, trainers room, workout room, players lounge
and equipment room.

I love the Whitt and I know it's nice and has everything players 'need' but it'd be cool to have all these 'wants' like these crazy, wicked nice
college rinks that have been being built recently. Maybe get that jumbo-tron too

I let my imagination run wild and it's something kinda cool to think about.

Now we just need like a 50 million dollar donation. ha.

Merrimack has two rinks now....and same with UMass. I think they should have a practice rink which would be perfect for rentals and become a money maker for the university as they rent it out!

Why does the men's team need a practice rink? Other than the women's team and the occasional public skate the rink isn't used. It's not like we have a relevant basketball team or anything and the men's and women's team don't have a problem sharing the ice. If UNH had that money it could be used else where.

Here's a new one to add to the list;!

TOP TEN REASONS SOG ARE MEANINGFUL:

10. Without SOG we couldn't figure a goalie's save percentage!

9. FGIP's would have nothing to cheer about without SOG unless of course said SOG
go in!!

8. SOG “Describe a game”!

Feel free to add to the list at will. :D

Agreed. It would be cool if money were no object ... but of course it is, and there are other more pressing needs on campus. Even keeping the funds within the AD's budget, there is that small but festering issue of the so-called football "stadium".

BTW do the Men's and Women's team ever use the Jackson's Landing rink across town? I know they used to use Dover Arena and The Rinks at Exeter at times in the past ... and all three of those have standard NHL-sized sheets.

Merrimack has less teams and events at the rink...why do they have two!

The rink gets used by club teams, intramural games, high school games and stick and puck. Its still not a ton of use or demand with other rinks in the area but it gets used more than you think. Still, a second rink is not a need. More of a la-la land want I'd imagine with the budget and other areas of concern at UNH.
And hey the basketball team only lost by 5 to Marquette last night. ;) haha.

Kinda of embarrassing that the men's hoop team only drew a total of 4k all of last season and the coach had his contract renewed

Major issues with that athletic department including hockey which isn't selling out like they did during my unh days

Re: UNH Wildcats 2013-14 Season Thread

The Middlesex Islanders

Maybe you misread that...Merrimack only has one hockey program right now and can't use the building for other events like the Whit can be.

Anyways, UNH needs to get serious with the entire athletic department or they will be a bottom feeder in all sports soon with the moves in College Athletics.

I think they still might use Dover occasionally when there isn't ice but I might just be assuming that. I know that they have used the Verizon as well.
Personally I would like to see more upgrades to the Whitt we have now. I know they are working hard to raise funds for them. What they have done since UNH has taken over management has been great. First off no more mold and all the pictures and murals are nice additions. Soon will be a trophy case where the friends table used to be. Still waiting for that new replay board but who knows if it is ever coming.

I forgot that oyster river uses the rink now. When I was in school (not all that long ago) oyster river was still using other rinks.

Re: UNH Wildcats 2013-14 Season Thread

Har har har (and I already made that joke when I found out about it) we have to put our participant trophys somewhere!

When the local papers run a story with the headline "UNH to improve trophy case" people are going to wonder if they're reading The Onion.
