UNH Wildcats 2013-14 Season Thread (Part 2)

Re: UNH Wildcats 2013-14 Season Thread (Part 2)

We were our own downfall, a failure to quickly and efficiently clear the zone led to an early UNH goal being chopped off for offsides.

Boy do I remember that one well. Horrendously soft goal allowed by the MC goalie, only to be let off the hook by a Wildcat(s) failing to bust it to simply get out of the attacking zone. :(

So what are the pre-game haunts in Andover? And am I misremembering, or did they used to sell beer in the arena?

Can y'all tell I need a drink?

I think you may be misremembering on the beer, iirc Lowell & BU are the sole sellers in the league.
Bertucci's is right at the intersection leading to campus and proves popular with UNH fans. There is a Panera Bread just before that (if you are coming from 495), and a Fuddruckers if you go just past campus on 114.

Re: UNH Wildcats 2013-14 Season Thread (Part 2)

An FYI for anyone who can't make it this weekend, both games can be found on MerrimackAthletics.tv for $8.95 per game.

Also coming from 495 on Rt 114, on the right is a Burton's Grill. Take a left at the Rt. 133/125 light and there's a 99 Restaurant about a mile down on the right (Joe Fish a little further down on the left, about 5 minutes from MC campus).

I'm not a Fuddruckers or Panera Bread fan so thought I'd throw those out there.

Yep - that's right - it was Lowell.

Thanks!

Re: UNH Wildcats 2013-14 Season Thread (Part 2)

I believe it was Blake Kessel who flipped the puck into the zone on a delayed offsides call. It took a funny bounce and beat the goaltender but was disallowed because Phil Desimone had not cleared the zone before the puck crossed the goal line. Or maybe Kessel took a slapshot from the neutral zone. Something like that.

Re: UNH Wildcats 2013-14 Season Thread (Part 2)

This might be old news to some of you, but former UNH star of recent Brett Hemmingway is an assistant coach for Mark Doherty's Reading Rockets. RHS defeated Arlington Catholic, 3-1, in last night's MIAA Quarterfinals and will next face Dick Umile's hometown of Melrose on Saturday.

http://espn.go.com/blog/boston/high...t-johns-s-arlington-advance-to-north-quarters

Reading has become the adult home to a number of former Wildcats including Tyson Teplitsky, Brian Putnam, and Brett Hemingway. I know I am missing others but if they all have sons, they stick around Reading, and they don't get lured away to the Catholics or the preps, Mark Doherty might have a wagon in 10-15 years. Lot of speculation there but always going to pull for the publics over the privates, including the Catholics. Massachusetts should mimic the Minnesota format where all private schools play in the private school tournament, not the public one.

Easiest way I would imagine is 495 north to 114 south. You get off the exit ramp onto 114 and the junction of 125 (where Merrimack is) is about 1-2 miles down the road. If you going directly to the rink, you go through the lights at the major intersection, stay in the right lane and there is an entrance (unmarked) about 300' downon the right hand side. If you are eating, the Bertuccis is on the left side of the road at the junction and the 99 is about a mile north on 125. Hope this helps.

Thanks Greg! Appreciate the info. Most likely will check out Bertucci's and then onto the rink. Gotta behave as I'm drivin' by self. :D
