UNH Wildcats: 2010-2011 Season Thread

Re: UNH Wildcats: 2010-2011 Season Thread

For this year some amazing things will have to happen to UNH if the league is to take notice. With a lack of offensive output and natural goalscoring ability the team is in tough. It was nice to see the girls rebound with a 2-1 win over Providence and it would be real good to squeeze out a few more wins but it is time to look ahead. Hopefully the staff can find some diamonds in the rough that can create offense and a few other top end recruits in the coming year or two to get back to National contention. Go Wildcats!

....not to mention one of the biggests task will be securing a top-notch goaltending recruit in the future who can step into--and ideally beyond--Minton's skates if the team is to climb back into serious national contention..

Yea baby...UNH in OT over Northeastern! Small steps can become huge strides and so far the Wildcats are beginning to stand up and be counted......Herman faces 40 shots to beat Schelling, with Birchard ending the OT 16 seconds in......anything can be accomplished as a team....way to be Cats!

Congrats!! A very big win for sure, and must feel like a great positive step forward in what I am sure has been at times a discouraging season--especially for players such as Birchard who were also there when the team was at its peak. Anything can happen in the playoffs in one game especially if a team happens to be hot.

Very excited to see the Cats bring it together the last few games. Since their game against Providence a few weeks ago I see strides being made. Can anyone tell me of any commitments for next years team and what we have to look forward to on the horizon?

Re: UNH Wildcats: 2010-2011 Season Thread

They have certainly begun to play with more confidence, and getting contributions from more lines / players makes them a lot harder to play against. Lots of hockey left, and if they play to the level they are capable of, can have a respectable year.

A huge 4 points this weekend in the move to make the playoffs.....come on you Wildcats!!

Whoa! Big win...congrats!

You folks are gonna like Jonna Curtis I think. I'd have taken her in Maroon & Gold any day...good catch.

That is now two Minnesotans for next year, and at least one for the following year. Seems like Coach Wood is opening up that state, where UNH hasn't had much of a presence.

While I always appreciate the hard work and dedication of and for scouting, it's this year's team that is making the journey so exciting.....another game like last night on Saturday and we won't be able to sneak into the playoffs....and kick some butt! Cheers to you Hermy, way to go Wildcats!!

Iam so happy for Herman. She deserves a ton a credit for sticking through the tough times. Way to go girl.

Re: Big honor for Karyn Bye Dietz

It is refreshing to look at the UNH Woman's thread and see any "Fire Coach McCloskey" flames. I'm in Michigan and haven't followed the woman's teams as closely as previous years, but have noticed that UNH hasn't been ranked in the top ten all year.
In a nutshell, can someone post what you think has been the problem. If you prefer, e-mail me at Fricker88@msn.com.

I have known Brian McCloskey since his days as a Brown Assistant when he and Scott Borek helped Bob Gaudet rebuild Brown's mens team. The biggest issue they had was that Brown, being an Ivy, didn't offer scholarships, and if they did, they could have signed far more than the (20) scholarships they would be allowed. I was most impressed with the Western Canada pipeline they
created.

Best of luck as the season winds down and congrats for showing confidence in the coaches......it's VERY refreshing.

Re: Big honor for Karyn Bye Dietz

So this weekend will decide whether or not UNH has made the playoffs...if they can play BC as well as they did the first time, minus of course the last 2 minutes, then we'll be fine...if only the referees would allow the women to play hockey and allow for contact but no checking, UNH could get in the face of a rushing BC player and not get called for anything....stand the player up as she heads for the net and Stack has issues...Minton and Herman will have to be at their best to top Schaus but they've done it before so why not now....let's see the seniors fight for another weekend of hockey....let's go Cats!

Jonna will be playing in the 6:00PM game in the Minnesota State High School Tournament. Video is free upon registration:
