C-H-C.. great job covering the recuits.

I wonder if UNH has plans to move Correale to the USHL for is last Jr yr given that there is more than likely better overall competition there- or could he be on the short list as someone to bring in early if there is an early and unexpected departure, or delayed arrival by anyone.

Casey DeSmith living the dream - Rochester native verbals to UNH according to Heisenberg. Currently playing with the Indiana Ice where he ranks second in the USHL with a 1.67 GAA and first with two shutouts and a .948 save-percentage...

He's a '91 so you'd have to assume he comes next year, if Campbell also comes next fall (as was expected...) that would leave UNH with five rostered goalies:

DiGirolamo, SR
Scott, SR
Wyer, SO
Campbell, FR (defers again as a '92??)
DeSmith, FR

So what gives...??

Very interesting. Before the season began, Cody Campbell was projected to be the starting goalie for the Cedar Rapids Roughriders. However, he has not played in any of their 6 games so far this season. As described earlier, a former USHL goalie who had spent last year playing for Minnesota-Duluth, returned to Cedar Rapids and has played in every game. I haven't read anything indicating that Campbell is injured. He will be 19 in February so maybe he's fallen a year behind.

Mr. Correale has 15points in his 8 games since commiting to the U. Not too shabby.


I do think the DeSmith Goalie signing is very interesting, although given that he's on the USA squad heading to Canada and a NH kid- w/ a .945 save percentage- how can you be dissapointed? re: Campell, who knows. IMO the kid is getting hosed. The longer he sits.. it smells more and more like he's getting jobbed out there. Hope I'm wrong. He put up some very nice numbers last yr for the Cedar Rapids club, and I'd have to imagine he thought he'd be the #1 goalie coming into this yr- with the Hjelle kid arriving due to his departure from his college team. Again, I hope the kids get to see some action. If the Coach was trying to simply get Hjelle some exposure, so he'd be able to land on a new college team, for the second half- I'd sure think he's got it by now!!

Over a 4 game stretch, Dan Correale scored 3 goals and 7 assists. He is now tied for 3rd in scoring in the Alberta Junior Hockey League.
Grayson Downing had a hat trick Friday night and is now tied for 12th in scoring in the BCHL.
Cody Campbell won his first game of the season in the USHL on Saturday.

Cody Campbell is listed as uncommitted on Heisenberg's site.

Major bummer, I was excited for this kid.

I guess this isn't a total surprise given that, seemingly out of the blue, UNH got a commitment from Indiana Ice goalie (and Rochester native) Casey DeSmith last week. He is 6 months older than Cody Campbell and, so far, is having a better season (e.g., DeSmith was recently named to the US Junior Select Team).
Campbell, on the other hand, was serving as the backup goalie for the Cedar Rapids Roughriders and played in his first game of the season last Saturday.
Last year, Campbell got off to a subpar start while playing for the Fargo Force and was traded to Cedar Rapids. According to McKeen's Hockey:
"Campbell's technical game broke down and he had visibly lost his confidence during a streak of games where he gave up five goals, five goals, and four goals in consecutive starts and then was pulled after giving up three goals in six shots against Sioux Falls Dec. 9."
Campbell went on to play very well during the second half of last season with Cedar Rapids.
So far, I haven't read anything indicating that Cody Campbell had a similar breakdown in his performance this season. However, there has not been any published explanation for why he was relegated to the role of backup goalie. Maybe this is a case of Campbell not progressing as anticipated while DeSmith is becoming a more steady performer. It's a shame - Cody Campbell apparently had a lot of potential when he first joined the USHL as a 16-year-old.

According to the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders website, Brady Hjelle has committed to play for Ohio State. As described in earlier posts, Hjelle is the goalie who started and played throughout the first 6 games of the RoughRiders' season. Cody Campbell played in his first game for Cedar Rapids in Game 7. There is still no information available regarding Campbell's decommit from UNH.

Hey a big favor to ask the posters here - if someone has a subscription to USHR would you mind posting the info, if any, that they have on the New England Regionals that are out in the Berkshires this weekend. I will be out there as we have two teams playing this weekend and would be interested in seeing if they say anything other than the schedule. You can post or send me an email. Thanks.
