UNH Men’s Hockey 22-23: the start of something new, or more of the same?

So...10 games into the season the staff is scrapping and replacing their offensive systems? And, furthermore, they announce it to UVM and the world?

--

In other (HR approved) news, Miami U Field Hockey reached the NCAA Tournament for the sixth straight season - winning a game for the fourth time in those six seasons. They will now face Northwestern (the lone team to beat the RedHawks since in the team's last eight outings). Shockingly, the wagon that is Maine Field Hockey did not qualify for the event...

Lol Dan! I just looked at the bracket...thought of you and almost posted about it but didn't want to start a FH discussion but will be following how the Red Hawks do!! Yeah Maine lost their AE bid and I don't know how FH does their tournament...they finished up I believematch up!

Being the #1 seed in that was surprised they lost to UAlbany (who then lost to Stanford in a SO)..uh oh thats more than I wanted to say haha Good luck to your Red Hawks; that will be quite the matchup!

UNH 3-5-2 in their last 10 games at the Gutt, but most of those games were when Sneddon was HC of Catamounts, whose fans are more excited about their new HC than we are about our old HC.

Oh you don't have to tell me about our Guttless performances I have witnessed plenty!!! Ha!

I’ve been waiting for the appropriate time to post how illogical yet lovable it is that Stanford, Cal and UC Davis FH play in the america east conference.

According to today's article in the UL, MS7 is channeling a not-so-long-ago discussion with Michael Ontkean (a/k/a "Ned Braden" in Slapshot) as his purported inspiration for re-tooling the UNH offense.

File this under "sometimes truth is stranger than fiction". MS7 has now officially jumped the shark ...

Just read it. Was hoping for something like “if you can’t beat ‘em, beat on ‘em”. Oh well.

“Having a willingness to get pucks on net and score goals and be ready to shoot, I think, are a lot of the things myself and the team are going to really focus on this weekend so we can get out of this funk of us not scoring,” Cronin said.

This.

Lets look on the bright side. Maybe "Ned" told MS7 that he could fill the Whitt up faster, especially with the sorority sisters and ORHS girls, by having his players do the hockey striptease a few times per game. Would lead to a delay of game penalty for sure, but put more asses in the seats, ie more revenue and ultimately more to spend on the MS7 replacement next spring. If not, then all of us may end up like "Ned's" girlfriend and just drink ourselves silly. :)

Isn't that the truth, eh?

If I'm being honest, lifting the fighting ban on D-1 hockey would be a plus, too. Especially for programs towards the bottom of the standings, allowing their players to start training for their future goon hockey league careers ...

FWIW dept the AE fh champs upset #4 Michigan today in a wild one 2-1....Dan's RedHawks are in a 0-0 deadlock at halftime playing Northwestern tough...

EDIT: RedHawks/Northwestern heading to OT 1-1 regulation

EDIT: Wow, Northwestern edged Miami in a shoot out; Miami had tied it but used an illegal hit which disallowed the tying goal. (game review/referral) Great game for the Red Hawks..still trying to win that all elusive first round but I'm sure they will. Tough call, but looked right to HR

Obligatory UNH hockey post! UNH Cats seeking some much needed HE points while VT looks to squash that idea at the 'Gutt. (house of UNH horrors outside of Alfond)

HR's predictions:

Friday: UNH 2 UVM 1 (OT) Fess starts

Saturday: UVM 4 UNH 2 Muszelik starts

At this point, virtually every away rink is a "house of horrors" for UNH - including the glorified HS rink down in North Andover. It's kind of like a corollary to the WIS Rule of Cupcakes ("If you can't quickly spot the cupcakes on your schedule, then YOU are the cupcake), or the other corollary that applies mostly to Football, where it is usually a very bad sign for your program to be the featured guest at too many "Homecoming" games.

One UNH team that will never be considered anyone's cupcake, Men's Soccer advanced to the America East conference finals last evening with a decisive 3-0 semifinal win over Binghamton. Coach Hubbard (once again the AE Coach of the Year) has the team rounding into form at the right time of the season, and his team will host Albany on Sunday afternoon at 2:00 p.m. at The House That Blue Skies Built. A win should cement UNH's place in the NCAA's, and continue to show to the underperforming programs strewn all over Durham that you can win anything anywhere with the right people in charge of things. With relatively young guys like Hubbard and Santos in charge across the street, the axis of power in UNH Athletics has clearly shifted, and it doesn't take a genius to figure out who will be AD Rich's "golden children" for the foreseeable future. HINT: sadly, ice will not be involved.

Let’s hope they got a lot of practice with the new system this week, we know they won’t actually coach it during the game

Tied 1-1 midway through third, so anything could happen!

And, Clarkson up 3-0 over Colgate in third, so maybe if they can hang on for the win our PWR will get a bump.

Horrible puck control in OT. This team provides absolutely zero entertainment factor. So much for the new and improved offensive system… oh, if they could only score a goal.

Didn't watch..picking sister up at airport so missed the bulk of the game (radio). Someone at the game said the team was "gassed". Oh welllllllllllll.

Just a polite way of saying they have no talent, and that’s directed at the HC, not the players.

We are fully in the embarrassment phased. Only goal is a total miss by the Vermont goalie. Just when you think they have hit rock bottom Sousa finds a shovel to keep digging.

We came within a minute of picking up an all important HEA point on Friday night, but at least Clarkson gave us a bump in the almighty PWR.

Came here to say exactly this. The lone goal was a gift from the UVM goalie, so they were that close to getting shut out. Feels like a new low to me, especially after how sloppy they were in OT. Lame duck coach who has failed his players, the fans and the university.
