Yeah, the had regionals in Orono nearly every year. I was there many times. Miami played in orono many times also. When Walshy came around Baseball took a back seat, Wink wasn't to happy about that

I wonder who the “fan” is in this situation. And also, if it is facilities and resource driven, we should expect a better year next year with the new renovations? Right?!
I wonder if UNH would look into getting another assistant, or perhaps moving on from one of the current ones as a consolation instead of moving on from MS7.
Interesting also they brought up the point that good recruits are known well in advance now versus 25-30 years ago (better scouting, and also now in the Information Age). Maybe UNH should lean into taking bigger risks on super young guys and hope they can develop in the juniors and stay loyal until matriculating? I think of Tournas who has been committed to UNH since 2022, and has really blossomed recently into a legit prospect.

My constant counter point aligns with what Dan keeps saying or what UNH experienced in the early 90's or what Maine just did with Ben Barr.

Look at Maine's hockey budget before Barr started winning. It was less then UNH.
Want money start winning there is $1.5M being left on the table per year in poor attendance.

And also remember ... this is a program that used to have a Friends of Hockey organization that worked successfully for years to address the shortcomings of funding of the program. FoH would undoubtedly still be here, doing the same great work they did during the "glory days" of the program, except for the T-Hall numpties who got their collective panties in a bunch, deep-sixed FoH once Dick Umile was out of the way, and never made up the difference they should have before deciding to terminate this difference-making funding source. Mind you, these folks never got so much as a "thank you" even.
So much of where UNH Hockey finds itself these days could/should have been averted by dynamic leadership, on and off the ice. Instead, we are left to debate whether the program is best described these days as "mediocre" or "abysmal". No wonder so many have wandered off the reservation in recent years ...

Do you think there would be interest in trying to revive FoH? I wonder if the university would bite if they were presented with a solid pitch, maybe also include info on how much money they raised, benefits for the team, etc. Maybe also some modeling on how the program can grow over time and overall organization goals, etc. FoH died before Rich arrived on campus. Same with the relatively new president. Maybe they aren’t as familiar with the massive benefits it provided?
It can’t hurt to at least ask. Still gotta find the best way to “pitch” it, and also find the right person to speak with the AD/other administration. If the school doesn’t want to put forth the effort to improve the team, maybe we as the fans should try and step up?
We shouldn’t have to, but it really seems the school is reluctant on this matter, and I think the UNH fanbase has the passion/numbers to help out.
Maybe I’m way out of line… Again, I’m forever an optimist, so I realize this probably comes across as a “pie in the sky” proposition. I gotta dream though!

Not going anywhere. And I'm not into revealing people's identities, friend or foe. For example, we know each other. I'd never reveal your identity on here, and we have not always agreed on everything. We all make our own decisions on how to participate. I'm not looking for a medal for my approach, any more than Greg Ambrose or a few select others did when posting as themselves. And I think you will agree, because you were around "back in the day", but the stuff that gets posted on here these days is absolutely tame in comparison to what got posted on here in the early days of the Internet in general, and USCHO specifically.
The difference being - and again, I think you can verify this - is that back in the day, folks would take haymakers at each other's teams (and sometimes each other) all week long on the board, and then come gameday, we would meet each other in between periods or postgame at some local bar, shoot the sh!t and have a few beers, and it all worked out just fine. And then go back to work on the next Monday and do it all over again. In some ways, it was kinda like the old "goon code" in the NHL. It could get fierce (as "fierce" as anything online can get lol) at times, but there were lines that simply did not get crossed.
potty likes to act like the personal protector for Coach Souza (lol, as if), but here's the rub ... if Coach Souza ever wanted to discuss my criticisms with him, it's easy enough to find me. I'd have no problem saying the same exact things I say on here directly to MS7. And he would be free to tell me I'm full of sh!t. This is a great country that way, isn't it? Until a month or so ago, I had a faint sense of who potty really is. Now I know exactly who he is, and I've come upon that info with some wonderful help from others on here. To paraphrase a recent MS7 talking point ... "I have a resources issue, not an identity issue". I know who and where he is, but no time/interest in digging him out of his swampy abode.

Based on McMahons comments, do you think the “cabal” is starting to get concerned? It made me think back to the comments from the BU announcers a few weeks back who tried to defend MS7 and bashed us fans for complaining when we already have a “great coach”….
Do MS7s friends think there’s a legit chance they move on from him? So they’re “pulling out the stops” to put forth a counter argument?
Perhaps I’m looking WAY too much into this, and just looking for things that I want to hear. Haha!
Even still, perhaps they want to get this alternative opinion out on the web so when the powers that be do their due diligence research, they find more than the numerous social media comments, audio recordings of “Fire Souza” from the student section, and probably around 1/2-2/3 of the posts on our 148+ pages on this board that allude to us wanting to move on from Souza.
I post as a nickname but have zero problem with people knowing who I am either. It is not really a huge secret and a lot of people on her I am friends without side the board. What I will not do as Chuck noted is reveal where I get information. FU17 Re FoH.... The coach has to want to participate. Show up to events glad hand the friends. Take a chance to get some hard questions, they were all softballs. The only time MS7 wants that sort of exposure is when he is hunting a new contract. Part of his job, he doesn't do, is fan service. At the time I thought MS7 didn't have the juice to save it, reality, based on his actions he was happy to have it go away.
So we have the $1.5M in gate/concessions and the $.5M-$1M the friends raised every year (let's call it $1M because inflation in the 8 years). So that is $2.5M extra, of today's money, that Umile had without fighting with the University. All from winning and taping into the fanbase. Seems like a bit of "resources".
I posted a few pages back Umile in 2008 (it was a year where the number popped up on a simple Google search so I ran with it, if I cherry picked a high water mark, it is not intentional, it is lazy) made the equivalent of $575k in today's dollars. So about 14% of that missing $2.5M went to head coaches coaches salary the rest went to things like a 3rd assistant etc etc
With McManon we just seeing the beginning of the new contract campaign. As I remember this is how it started 3 years ago. MS7 and Mike must have become friendly at some point. I hear MS7 is a good guy, I honestly don't care, I don't want a crappy coach. We are seeing the beginning of the MS7 cicada cycle.
