UNH- How Far West Do We Go?

At about this time of the season in prior years, there was an extremely analytical poster who would calculate the the possibe positions in which the various teams could end the season based on their current position and games remaining on their schedule. Does anyone remember which poster would put that together?

UNH specific link:

Hockey East in general:

The interlocking NH on the shoulders was used by UNH in the late 70's to later 80's. Could be confused for a Yankees NY logo so the occasional "Yankees Suck" could be tossed at the wearer. :)

There is only 1 Uni that should be used in Durham. Simple, classic, clean!

I have the home version of the top one...got it off Amazon. I get asked about it alot!

I just skimmed their thread. Apparently an assistant coach is a tad out of shape. Also Maine sucks. Always.
I thought Fortier left a year or two ago now? Don't tell me Ben picked another chunky dude to replace him??

I guess someone's gotta keep the Bangor "Five Guys" place going ...

Also makes me wonder… if AD Rich is concerned with how budget cuts for this year may impact UNH (as it seems more may be on the way) if she decides to leave on her own accord and go somewhere in the private sector?
I'm sorry FU17 ... the chances of our esteemed AD abandoning her compliance fiefdom for the private sector ... 😂 😂 😂 😂 😂 ... sorry don't mean to be rude and laugh in your face, but that's just never gonna happen, man. Chances are higher for Luce and me doing an amiable 18 holes offseason than AD Rich ever working a single hour in the private sector. Or of BC Chancellor Shea ever reffing another HEA game again, after WIS busted his a$$ on here back in early '20.

There is "thinking outside the box", and then there is bat sh!t crazy ... it's OK, I chalk it up to your enthusiasm, if you go overboard once in awhile, we got your back ...

Forgive him. He's young and has yet to fully experience how incompetent the UNH Athletic Department can be.

Thanks for poking your head back in and sharing this with us, Scott. (y) Any idea who authored the article? Context is always important.

As far as the AD is concerned ... wondering what the status of the incumbent AD down at Princeton might be? Could hold the key here ...

If only Ivy Leagues published contract details publicly.

I wonder if this is related to the recent gain of Romeo? Perhaps Carcone’s scholarship is going to Romeo, and maybe MS7 and co. Value Romeo moreso than Carcone?

Either that, or perhaps Carcone saw the sinking ship, and is thinking his development may be better suited elsewhere… I wish him all the best, but hope he doesn’t end up somewhere else in Hockey East.
Have watched video of both Romeo and Carcone and can understand how Romeo would be considered an upgrade. Comparing their stats also supports that conclusion:
Romeo: 45GP 20G (3GWG, 7PPG, 94SOG) 18A 38Pt 2PIM +6
Carcone: 42GP 9G (0GWG, 4PPG, 70SOG) 28A 37Pt 41PIM -3

This is a deeply unserious suggestion.

Not really. It's exactly what BU did when it eliminated football in 1997 and shifted budget to "nationally competitive" sports, i.e. hockey. UVM also cut football in 1995 to focus on hockey and basketball.

That's just in Hockey East. Learn your history.

It's more than likely Carcone didn't want to wait till 2007 as he was slated to come in 2026. Have faith in Mikey..:ROFLMAO:

Or Northeastern dropping football 2009. Or UML in 2003. Or Providence College in 1941 (way ahead of the curve)

I am not even suggesting dropping football.

If you have $100k (or $200k or whatever number you would like) extra where would you invest it in UNH Athletics? What would give you the biggest, fastest opportunity?

Maybe putting butts in seats, eating and drinking 18 times a year at the Whitt... Maybe not maybe that extra $100k would be better spent on 5 football home games? or...

If $200k gets me a coach like Ben Barr and can bang out the Whitt at about $1.5M in additional revenue isn't it worth seeing how you could find the money in the budget. Yes that probably comes mostly out of football, I mean where else would it be? But you put most of it back as hockey starts generating revenue again. There has to be a huge hole in the Athletic budget today compared to when hockey had a years long wait list for tickets at the Whitt.

What is deeply unserious is doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result or expecting this governor/state house to give the University more money.

In January, I projected Carcone as a 2026 or '27 commit.
Up until this week, when Carcone was no longer a UNH commit, Chris projected him as a 2027 commit.

No worries at all - I understand it is a bit far-fetched. And perhaps I was thinking moreso in my line of work it is not wholly uncommon for people to move between government work and the private sector (in both directions). Alas though, I don’t work in athletics or admin, and it seems less movement from public to private is what I’m hearing on this front.

I believe the state fiscal year ends on June 30th, so I presume we should hear an announcement one way or another by early summer on if she gets an extension or the president decides to move on.

Something to keep an eye on for sure!

eliteprospects.com provides a ton of useful information on countless hockey players.
However, when it comes to projecting the season NCAA committed players are going to enroll as freshmen, it's not as reliable as one might think.

For example, that site currently lists the following forwards as committed to UNH for the 2026-27 season:
Niko Tournas, Mason Zebeski and Nicky Romeo (IMO, accurate)
Kole Hyles and Pavel Martinu (IMO, more likely 2026 or 27' for Hyles* and 2027 for Martinu)
*eliteprospects.com never projects a 2-season window for enrollment
Jack Sadowski, Sebastian Bradshaw, and Jesse Allecia (no longer have a commitment with UNH)

JB wasn't talking about dropping sports, as he clarified. You misinterpreted the post, not me.

I'm more than aware of the history, thanks.

Let's not go getting all Fluffer on others with the emphatics. Just off the top of my head, I think you mean UVM dropped football in 19seventyfive. There was a shirt available in Burlington to the tune of "UVM football - Undefeated since 1976. And not sure they dumped the savings into hockey and basketball, just the college coffers. Hoops didnt start to get good until the 90's under Brennan. Hockey, well Gilligan had some decent teams but didnt do much until Maine told Perrin and St Louis there was no room in the stable. :-)

Perrin was actually considered to be the better prospect, so shows how off recruiting can be. Speaking of, could jump over to Justin Martin, a home grown "super star" just waiting to tear up the Gut ice. The next John Leclair but ended up being the beer keg on ice. :-) UVM's answer to Eddie Caron??

Thats not how Walsh told the story of Perrin and St Louis.
