UNH- How Far West Do We Go?

Some rambling thoughts...

Too bad NU had to lose in a shoot out last night...echoing the hockey pundits. Maybe another 5 min OT and then shootout for big events like the Beanpot. But I suppose that would mess up the works. My money's on the Eagles for the 'Pot.

Any word on Marty? Imagine MS7 will mention his status at his presser tomorrow...

Heart goes out to the family friends and teammates of those 3 skaters lost from a car accident on the way to practice yesterday. Rest in Power boys...❤️
The Beanpot is always a good time. We have gone the last 4 years and will be there Monday. The environment is great and fun to watch when you have no stake in who wins.

I imagine he will be out for a bit. I haven’t heard yet the severity but potentially season ending unfortunately

Bravo: You recognize the absurdity of Grouchy, Emily The Flunky, Buford and Elwood. It's all repackaged garbage. The all claim have tenure due to their years as fans. They all claim to have deep ties to the program which gives them superior knowledge. Trust me, the insiders I know in the program think Meathead and Buford are SNL satire type fans. The ones I know don't know Emily The Flunky. Oh yeah, and when it's time to reach into their pockets and donate to the program they have followed so religiously - sorry, they don't do that sort of thing. As one former assistant said, "they're empty pockets fans". They talk a lot but always disappear at donation time.
I’m curious who your insiders are? I’m sure you’d be happy to share since you’re always asking us to name drop ours? Would be pretty hypocritical if you didn’t

Is there a list or can anyone relay who the hockey alums in attendance on Saturday were? Thanks.
Be careful, you start talking about former players and you will get a nickname from Porta.

I talked to Colin MacDonald at Libbys Saturday. From what he said Austin Block, Kyle Smith, Mike Robinson, Eric McAdams, Cam Gendron, Nikolai Jensen played in the game.

Add Charlie Kelleher to the list was fortunate to chat with him...said aTyK wished he could be there. Alas #27 couldn't make it..

I spoke with Cam and he was joking about how out of shape he was skating against the grads from the 80s and 90s

While not hockey related, it appears UNH is breaking ground on a new Ocean Science building ($10M) funded through external grants from NOAA and the National Institute for Standards and Technology. There will also be space to accommodate more industry partners looking to collaborate with UNH on this work.

More external partners means more money for the school, and state in general. Never a bad thing - maybe some of it will eventually bleed over to hockey!

Building is set to open in Fall 2027.

I heard this today. IT is an interesting additional while 3 older buildings are set to close in the fall.

So they decided on 3? I read the initial report they were proposing 6, but I wasn’t sure if that was set in stone or not. I wonder if they found buyers for any of them, but perhaps not if they are older and in need of significant renovations and/or upgrades…

That is what I remember but who knows. Either way it is sad that they can't keep buildings open. I doubt they will sell them but I wonder what the cost is to maintain versus use. The biggest problem is the president is the fundraiser for UNH but there is no vision on where to go.

I still think they missed the mark with the NE Center especially with Paul School opening.

Back to hockey, PC is #7 in the poll and #1 in HEA. Something I missed being disconnected with a team in the basement. Is this the upset with the short weekend or the expected blow out? How do the lines get shuffled with Lavin's most likely out? I would load up the front line with Cy, Morgan, and Ringer but see Oliver sliding back on Cy's line

The last I saw the 3 being moth balled are Nesmith, Morrill and Taylor. They are all in need of up grades, it is unfortunate they are all at the intersection of Main Street and College Road (essentially across the street from the Whitt). Going to need to spend some money keeping them looking acceptable even if not populated. This is what happens when enrollment shifts (to different majors) and shrinks.

None of these buildings has the right foot print to be refurbished into an Ocean Mapping building. Additionally they aren't putting the new Ocean Mapping near the Ocean Engineering building where Ocean Mapping currently has space (other side of the tracks from Morse). I am guessing they have plans for regular tractor trailer visits and that is why this expansion is out closer to RTE 4, instead of in the traffic mess of campus.

I knew you had mentioned this earlier but was too lazy to go back and find the post. It is how the campus has evolved with the inner buildings getting the money and the outskirts being abandoned. I do know Nesmith got a small reno 10 years ago but that's a lip stick on a pig type. Same with NH Hall. They have spent millions on a building that probably should have been demolished and redone.
