UNH Hockey Off Season Thread 2026

No, it's his angst against Coach Cav. If I'm a fan, I want max effort from my team. The last two games, UConn has out shot their opponent 2 tio 1, yet lost both games. The coach can't score for the kids, what else is there to do? Cav is not going away!!!!!!
Shame there isn't an award for most shots on goal, isn't it? Another year where Luce wins nothing. Shocking. I know I'm gutted.

At least Leaman finally won something where the opposing goalie didn't throw the puck into his own net ...

I had a family member used to refer to these types of losses in big games/playoffs as “umiliations”. Umile certainly won a lot of big games, but he also lost a fair number of bugs ones by wide margins…

EDIT: Just saw looks like 2 ENGs that make it look worse…
Maybe your family member was a former USCHO poster? "Umiliation" was a phrase that got thrown around on here many, many times a generation ago. And truth be told, in retrospect, the wide margins and the inexplicable upsets to the Niagaras and RIT's of the world didn't help his cause. And none of those were because of a late accumulation of ENG's. If you're being objective about it ... no matter how hard you may try to advocate (as I often did), you can only explain away so much ...

Not sure if they were ever a member here. Perhaps a lurker. Or maybe they heard it at a game, as they have been following UNH hockey for over 40 years.

That loss to Niagara especially stings… I believe that was MS7s last game as a wildcat, if I have my years lined up correctly?

Speaking of MS7, he certainly has his fair share of “umiliations” in win or go home games. Northeastern this year comes to mind, the quarterfinals up in Maine in 2024…

Let’s hope to limit those this coming year.

I do not think that any of MS7’s losses come close to the Umileation’s of the Niagara and RIT postseason losses as no one should have expected anything but losses to NU this season and to Maine in 2024.

That’s the thing about racists, they just can’t help it. Racists can’t help but hate.

The good news? Chuck Murray’s all alone in the woods with his tooth just wishing it was the 50s and he lived in Mississippi. He has no reach. All alone.
Now you are calling people racist? Just go away. You are a piece of garbage. Even for you this is a new low.

Also looks like Dartmouth got absolutely destroyed by Wisconsin in the 3rd. I saw it was 1-1 at the stat of the 3rd.

Seems like shades of UNH vs. PC earlier this year. Not sure if anyone here was watching? Was there a bad penalty/call and Dartmouth lost all composure?

The game was terrible. Watched it and Dartmouth had nothing. Should have been worse except for 2 posts in the 2nd that should have been goals. Dartmouth had a PAt's schedule and somehow stayed high in the rankings and RPI. The team that showed up tonight is the team that last at the Whit.

NPI is a joke and should be junked.

End of the road for MC. You can only rely so long on your goalie standing on his head day in and day out, as we very well know from 2023-2024…

One hell of a run for sure, and they for sure exceeded expectations. Based on their success I wouldn’t be surprised if Borek does well reloading in the portal and perhaps gets back to the garden next year.

0-fer for HE in the NCAAs doesnt look particularly good. A strange year for the conference indeed. As many of us have mentioned this was a year where we could have made some noise if we capitalized on certain situations, but alas we couldn’t take advantage…

Hopefully we (and HE in general) have a better showing next year.

The irony (some would call it audacity) of all this is, having seen potty's professional crew, he isn't in any position to lecture any of us on this topic ...

The guy hasn't exactly lit the D-1 world on fire, has he? He did a very good job at his alma mater, Randolph-Macon. But Randolph-Macon is a D-3 school.

Based on tenures at Bucknell and UNH, it very much appears he can win with someone else's players, but once it's his own guys, the program craters.

Based on all the available evidence, it appears Davis (like Souza and Weinrebe, both white guys the last time I checked) simply isn't ready for D-1 prime time, unless he's coaching someone else's players (and in Weinrebe's case, he even failed at that). Not surprisingly, there were more of those players at Bucknell (and for longer) than there were at UNH post-Herrion. And when someone drives any program into a ditch as quickly as Davis has at UNH, it invites a lot of questions. Some may even be uncomfortable. This time last season, and even this year before conference play, I kept an open mind on a turnaround. It's not happening (yet) ...

But Davis' job performance has been at the bottom of it all, and he has no one else to blame but himself if he can't turn things around. And based on his career to date, a turnaround does not appear to be imminent. He does have two more years left on his contract though. So at least at this point, there are indeed three (3) catastrophic hires on AD Rich's CV, all of whom have dragged their respective programs further back from past successes. You can put them in any order you'd like. Personally, I'd rank them from worst to "best" as follows (and I'm open to anyone challenging these rankings):

(1) Weinrebe - inherited perennial D-1 powerhouse under Hubbard, morphed into a losing record and out of NCAA tourney in 2 seasons. Bravo?!?
(2) Souza - inherited a program coming off a long period of national contention and a short down period, and spent a decade drilling further down;
(3) Davis - Inherited a historically mediocre program at its crest of mediocrity (4 straight non-losing seasons), rediscovered abysmal in 3 short seasons

If you think Davis' performance this past season has done anything to dispel his doubters, and you want to have an open discussion where we can act like adults, I'm game for that. That's why I'm responding to you, and not the idiot who throws around pejoratives like they are penny candy at a holiday parade ...
Whether you agree or disagree with the decision to move on from Herrion, whether you agree or disagree with the choice of Davis, the whole process was an absolute s-show. No plan, no vision, Part of me wonders if the scars of that experience have affected the searches that have followed. (Or perhaps one that hasn't)

I think honestly the jury is still out. With the old PWR the tournament field would be exactly the same with some minor tweaks in seeding.

1 seeds - same teams, same order
2 seeds - same teams, flip Providence and Duluth (7 & 8), and yes Dartmouth would still be 6th
3 seeds - same teams, flip Cornell and Wisconsin (11 & 12) which still has Dartmouth - Wisconsin as the likely first round match-up
4 seeds - same teams, flip Connecticut and Minnesota State (13 & 14), and Uconn is still the last team in

With these swaps you likely get a few first round matchup changes but nothing crazy and IF the committee focused on "tournament feel" aka attendance, which they have gone away from in recent years, you might have had the same brackets

P.S. sorry the table exploded. Cutting and pasting looked good at entry and exploded when posted.

And damn do the BIG10 schools look good. They have also looked good in the basketball tourney as well. Makes you wonder how deep the BIG10 schools pockets are when it comes to portal/NIL.
Not to mention two consecutive national titles in football, as they are at least on a plane with the SEC.

Still, haven't done it in hockey yet. The Big 10 Hockey Conference has as many NCAA titles as Mike Cavanaugh has Hockey East titles.

Agreed. At the end of the day it seems that RPI drives the numbers.

The only ones with a legitimate bitch would seem to be UMass fans, as they would have replaced UConn in the field if you used PWR this season, correct?

Well... crap... maybe...

It appears that CHN's pairwise table is still updating with NCAA tournament results, I went back to check it just now and I have a different PWR view from when I pulled the numbers. Thankfully I tossed in a W-L record column because that has changed on the CHN pairwise page.

I think you are correct as in the PWR column there is no #13... and that may have been Umass knocking out Uconn.

Further NOTE: the NPI table on CHN did not update (website programing quirk on the PWR side is my guess) Also if using PWR and yesterdays results counted prior to picking the tournament then Augustina would have been the last team in not Uconn or Umass... which is a reminder that the PWR system had some quirks of its own and regardless of the system used being on the bubble is a dangerous place.

No, I think you are right. The CHN site appears to have updated the numbers to include UConn's loss yesterday which dropped them below UMass.

But our larger points remain. There was very little difference between NPI and PWR, at least this season.

HR is the best
Is she tall enough to qualify?
Naturally you defend his racist abuse of Coach Davis, which provides insight on where you stand on race. In any event, more than a few posters noticed Chuck Murray's racism. You embrace and defend it because that's the Hillbilly code. Nevertheless, the civilized posters are pretty disturbed by how he has referred to Coach Davis.

Hey, Chuck Murray is the one who, completely unprovoked and with NO EVIDENCE, claimed that Herrion got fired because he's white and Coach Davis got the job because he's black. That's a nasty racial slur to put on Coach Davis.
You are complete and utter garbage. You know nothing about me or my family and to insist that I am racist is well beyond laughable. Pretty sure brother in law, who is black, would say other.
