Go Cats!! Beat Maine!!!
Well it's still a month away from the first ex game against Acadia, but we have football starting up today. Up first is St. Francis Pa. Many of last years team return this year, but I'm not sure what to make of them yet.

Opening kickoff and UNH has the football first.

LET'S GO CATS!!!

RJ Toman march the opening kickoff downfield with little resistance from St. Francis and Toman hits Mason in the endzone for a 4 yard TD pass and catch. About a five minute opening drive, and the score is 7-0 Cats.

Cats are running away with this one early. Sean Jellison on a 70 yard run makes it 21-0 with the PAT. 1:07 left in the first.

St. Francis takes the ensuing kickoff 80 yards to get the Red Flash get on the board. 21-7 Wildcats.

With 5 seconds to play in the half, the Red Flash score their second TD of the half and make the score 24-14 Wildcats. Despite the score, this has not been a good half for UNH. After scoring TD's on their opening three drives, things got ugly. Two INT's, a kickoff return for a TD and some generally poor play. If this were anybody but St. Francis, it's doubtful UNH would have the lead going into the locker room.

Third quarter comes to an end and no further scoring. First play of the fourth quarter and Toman throws his third INT of the game. Cats still lead 24-14.

It wasn't pretty, but UNH gets a victory in it's season and home opener. The defense certainly did it's job today, but the offense really struggled after scoring TD's on it's first three possessions. After that all they could muster was a FG. Not gonna be a fun week of practice for the offensive team heading into the game against Ball St.

UNH 24- St. Francis Pa. 14

Thanks for starting this thread and providing updates, Dean. The Cats definitely had their moments of shakiness, but it was encouraging to see the defense play well enough to secure the win, as we all know defense has been this team's Achilles heel the last few years. Should be a fun team to follow for the next month until the real show rolls into town ;) :D .

I just woke up for the nap I got during the 2nd-4th quarters of that one ;)
Possibly the most boring football game I have ever seen in person. UNH had TWO first downs in 4 posessions after the first quarter.. Sure the defense did a decent job against a lower level FCS team, but if this is a sign of things to come offensively, it could be a long season. I hope that's not the case, and was happy to be out there shooting some football! (though I was almost as rusty as they were ;))

No problem George, but save your thank you's for that first AIC-Bentley SU thread I start :). Agreed with Gib, this was not much of a game today. It started off great, but just went downhill from there. Toman is gonna have to get some things figured out and quick if we are gonna have any shot at the playoffs this year.

Cats lead 9-6 mid 2nd thanks to a safety and a big TD to Orlando. Sounds like the defense is really playing great and the offense, after a sluggish first few drives is starting to push the ball a bit....

UNH leads 16-6 late in the first half after a rushing TD, not sure who scored it.

I think its 16-6 at halftime now.

UNH recovers fumble at Ball State 8 and punches it in for 23-9. Ball State fumbles the kickoff and UNH recovers at the 10.

NH ended up going backwards, from first and goal at the 10 to 3rd and goal from the 50, its ended up being huge...
Ball State scored to make it 23-16, and are threatening to tie it with maybe 5 minutes to go, driving inside the 20...

huge sack for UNH gets Ball State down at the 30, 4th and 20....
UNH holds and gets the ball back with 2:40 to go at their own 35 yard line
