UNH Commits & Recruiting: 2019 and Beyond

Re: UNH Commits & Recruiting: 2019 and Beyond

So, nothing but crickets on Engarås. Didn't even come up as a topic around being shorhanded (injury madness) of late. Maybe he's actually in town and cleared, just not good enough to be on the ice.

That said, if he's still serving his NCAA penance, and UNH is footing a scholarship, well, that's a huge waste for a team that needs all it can get. In the real world, it's a due diligence fail regardless of the reason (admissions, pro$$, whatever...) and somebody gets a spanking.

Seems we'll need to do some discrete wire tapping to get any intel...

Well, he's def in town; I've seen him a few times at the 'Whitt. And I listen to the pressers (most of the time all the way through) and his name is never brought up. Someone correct me if I'm wrong on that. I don't know why they don't bring that up I'd be wondering. As per him not having the talent to be on the ice? I've got no clue about that. My inkling is he IS good enough to be skating with the 'Cats...? Of course this is a college team not the Bruins so we don't have the luxury of knowing all of these things, but, I'm kind of surprised his name isn't brought up at the weekly presser. My only guess is he's still not cleared I'm doubting his talent keeps him off the ice. But...crickets; that's for sure....

Re: UNH Commits & Recruiting: 2019 and Beyond

If someone in the press had a pair, they'd ask Coach Souza for some insight. Simple, no?

Unless they're worried that BS35+infinity might yank their credentials for being insolent ...

Agreed. Why not ask the question? Maybe they know and don’t want to rock the boat. Totally plausible.

Stutzle apparently suffered an upper body injury and will miss the 1-A U20 tournament, which begins Sunday in Germany. No idea how long he may be out...

EDIT
It appears he tried to fight through it - and productively, returning and posting a goal and assist in a pre-tournament game against Norway - but will not be on the final roster...

Re: UNH Commits & Recruiting: 2019 and Beyond

Just to put some context to Stützles stats:

16yo seasons in the German youth league DNL:
Leon Draisaitl: 56 points in 35 games; Points/game = 1,60
Dominik Bokk: 71 points in 41 games; Points/game = 1,73
Tim Stützle: 55 points in 20 games; Points/game = 2,75

I don´t know anything about the strenghts of their linemates. But these numbers should give you an idea, how special his season is so far.

They even changed the maximum age from 19 to 20 this season. Pretty sick to lead the scoring race as a 16yo by such a large margin.

From what I have seen in the few youtube videos, he has a great shot and very good agility.

If he keeps scoring like that, he goes Top10 in 2020 imo.

Does anyone know what his plans are for next season?

Draisaitl bounced from that season to two years tearing up the WHL and is currently a PPG player in the NHL. Bokk jumped to Sweden and is now a SHL regular at 18 (and was a first round pick by St Louis)...

As we all know Stutzle's current plans involve a year with Sioux City in the USHL and then UNH. Though his development timeline continues to speed up rapidly...

One hopes Coach Souza and his staff keep in touch regularly, and don't let this kid pull a Commesso on them.

All the more reason to hope UNH's D-1 profile is on the rise soon, as I'm sure the vultures will be circling ...

Re: UNH Commits & Recruiting: 2019 and Beyond

Engaras - on campus, and considered talented. The NCAA has made some sort of ruling about how long he needs to sit... My understanding is UNH thought he would be cleared by now, based on similar previous NCAA decisions.

Potential appeal in process... Unknown if the NCAA has already decided a final ruling.

Re: UNH Commits & Recruiting: 2019 and Beyond

Swedish defenseman Kalle Eriksson (DOB: 9/10/99) has committed to UNH for the 2019-20 season. The 5'10", 183 lbs. left-shot plays for Omaha Lancers and has a goal, 11 assists in 22 games. Puck moving Dman. Captain for Leksands J20 last season.

Well, ferchrissakes here we go again landing another Swede. Did the idjots in Admissions and/or the coaches learn anything?? We haven't even seen our first Swede on the ice yet!!! Good God, let's fix the dang process instead of puttin' the cart before horse!!

Whadda think of dat, Grouchy UNHer?

Stat tables in the blog omit three professional games played in Sweden for Erikkson - all for Leksands in the Allsvenskan, a Swedish minor league. Erikkson had one assist in those three contests...

https://www.eliteprospects.com/player/287857/kalle-eriksson

The differentiating factor may be that Leksands is Erikkson's hometown team ("100 yards from my home"). So if he had an eye on NCAA Hockey at the time it may have been easy to avoid any payment, and really any expense at all. I guess we'll find out soon.

Another good sign is his coming to NA and having months to dive into the process of figuring out eligibility with Omaha - long before choosing UNH. We'll see...

---

Regarding Engaras - I'd keep an eye on the Bentley game (first of the second half) or whatever game is the first official contest of the spring semester - if he's not making his debut in one of those two games, I'd suspect the season is in serious jeopardy (which could put an entire UNH career into doubt - certainly if things aren't a 100% locked up clearance for next fall, by the end of this season)...

He ain't on campus yet, ya gal-durn fool. Some nimrod at Admissions is gonna screw this up, you just wait! Bumbling morons.....those fools at the Admissions office can't think themselves out of a paper bag. 'Course, other schools seem have this Swede/Dane/Norwegian/Afghani recruiting process down pat, but no, not the naive UNH folks. Shoulda just stuck with the tried and true North Americans....dag nabit all......

Now git off my lawn!

My thoughts exactly. :D

Re: UNH Commits & Recruiting: 2019 and Beyond

I still say add three Finns. And, some more Germans and Swedes, along with a few Swiss and Danes. Maybe save a half dozen slots for North Americans.

Well there are 3-4 from a Minnesota high school in the stands tonight...

One is from the Czech Republic

Close enough. :-)

Where is the game chatter on our other thread? I got sick and could not get to the Whitt this evening.

Nice that they could see an entertaining game with a solid turnout and TV coverage too.

Re: UNH Commits & Recruiting: 2019 and Beyond

Erikkson was recently traded to Madison, where he is 1-1--2 in his first three games...
