UNH Commits & Recruiting: 2016 and Beyond

Re: UNH Commits & Recruiting: 2016 and Beyond

No disrespect to C-H-C intended here ... but it's disappointing that whenever this thread pops up to the top with "news", I get my hopes up that Souza or Stewart have landed a new player :) or two :) :) . But then I open it, and it's rarely a new recruit - most often, it's just updates (appreciated as they are) on already existing recruits.

Just wanted to fulfill my whining quota for the day. Carry on - as you were.

Re: UNH Commits & Recruiting: 2016 and Beyond

Good news, as the early recruiting window opens Wednesday, so UNH can start recruiting kids then.

Re: UNH Commits & Recruiting: 2016 and Beyond

This thread also reminds me of the news skits by the original SNL cast, where Chevy Chase would breathlessly break into the *news* with the revelation that "Generalissimo Francisco Franco is still valiantly clinging to death!!"

One of these days MS and/or GS are actually gonna land a recruit ... and none of us on here are gonna believe it.

Re: UNH Commits & Recruiting: 2016 and Beyond

Boy, you have to wonder how long UNH and San Jose will let Robinson rot on the Dubuque bench. He's been in a game and a half out of their first 16 games. Combined with missing the first half of last year, he's barely played these two years since he was drafted. Get him up to the BCHL where he can face some shots on a bad team.

Please pardon the naiveté but hopefully this is being monitored at UNH? Can a college move a player to another league/division if they aren't happy with what's going on? This is concerning...someone (UNH and/or San Jose) is paying attention...right?

San Jose paying attention, I'm sure. UNH? Not so sure ... but we are stacking up goalies like no one's business, and next season there will be four (4) including Robinson IF the other 3 return. Robinson not looking like the solution (much less the savior) if he can't even get off the bench in juniors ...

Of course the 'stacking up of goalies' wasn't in the UNH plan...we all know why it happened. But it will be interesting to see how this all shakes out next year. Can't help but think something's gotta give...I don't want to speculate on what that might be, as I don't know how common it is for a team to carry 3 GK's? I hope Robinson can get some games under his belt!

Are you insinuating that next year's logjam in goal has something to do with a goalie who was supposed to graduate two seasons ago? Sorry, don't think you can blame that one on CDS. No matter when Danny Boy came to Durham there were going to be three goalies on the roster in 2017-18.

As far as the stacking of goalies like cordwood, I stand by what I said almost two years ago at the height of DannyMania:

My biggest fear is that the coaching staff thinks/knows that neither guy is the answer, which is why they have another (apparently higher ranked) goalie in the pipeline.

Good take, Felger. Turns out it looks increasingly like the #3 option (Robinson) isn't a world beater either.

Not to mention there will be no short of four (4) UNH goalies next season (including Lazzarro).

Guess I don't have the story straight...was under the impression DT was to come the next season, (Fall of 2015) after CDS graduated which would've been May 2015. Was Robinson deferred a year, hence the issue? I'd appreciate the info as I'm always appreciative of getting the story right. Talk to me like I'm 2...I can take it. :p And, ps, I'm not 'blaming' CDS, it's just the way it went. Oh and I had completely forgotten that we had 3 GK's that season, with Jamie Regan on the squad as well? So I verified what I originally thought and I get it.

Maybe Robinson will decommit? Seems to be a lot of that happening lately.

Re: UNH Commits & Recruiting: 2016 and Beyond

I think there's currently just a one year logjam next season. After that, it should just play out with the succession plan of Robinson taking over for Tirone, with Lazzarro in case of emergency. The tricky piece is the Clark piece, since he and Tirone flip-flopped after DT's acceleration and Clark's unplanned medical redshirt. It almost (innately?) feels like someone's gonna leave before next September ...

Not really in top 5 issues for UNH recruiting. Robinson was a raw in-state project when committed, so I am guessing he got promised little money. That he briefly popped to be a highly drafted kid probably didn't change the money he was promised.

Now, on other fronts, 153 kids born in the 2000s have committed. We and Lowell are among a small group of about 5 ECAC AHC or WCHA teams not to have one. Maybe we're just smarter than those other top-20 HE, ECAC, Big 10 and NCHC programs.

Since May, there have been approximately 266 commitments. We have one, a lightly recruited local kid (Verrier).

I know that just makes my day. Hey ... if it's good enough for Coach Bazin, maybe we're onto something here!! :D
