Quoting myself. Size AND speed that can play.
That's fine, but skill needs to be the more important priority. And it's way past due to start adding some of that skill...

Like I wrote on the other thread, put TyK and Pots on the first two blueline pairs next season. It is pointless to waste them on a forward line.
Everyone talks about the bigger guys that can't play on the roster. Most of them being on the backend. I believe Cleland is the only scholarship player on the blue line. Might be time to change that philosophy.

Harry Quast and John Furgele are the only 2 UNH defensemen who did not sign a National Letter of Intent. Did you mean that Cleland is the only defenseman receiving athletic scholarship money this season?
I don't want to put words in his mouth, but that was my interpretation. Thinking about the group, I don't feel that its outside of the realm of possibility that Dawson and the sophomores are still waiting their turns for any substantial aid. That leaves Quast as a senior walk-on, Cleland and Maller. So the only real surprise would be an upper-class Maller not getting any money.
Most importantly, they have all played like walk-ons - but that's what happens when you recruit so poorly on the back end that half of your rearguard are mid- to late-summer emergency recruits...
I was critical of Tim for not being able to get more than just one quality line. He understood the college game and knew how it was allowed to be played. Gendron is obsessed with the physical part of the game to a fault. As others have said, this program has a long road ahead to once again be respectable.

Very cool! prob what, 2 years out? A plus he's a B's fan...(but you'd expect that since he's from MA) NHL'ers son.
When did Borque leave? I need to start paying attention.
It is not true that Cleland is only scholarship athlete on blue line. There are at least 7 that are on some scholarship. He may be the only current defensemen with full ride but I cannot confirm that.
