UNH at Denver - Saturday 11/24/12

Re: DU, 4-2 - 2nd Period

The video feed was awesome that period, Unh and Wyer solid save for that flukey goal. Good game, shame the start was so shakey

Re: DU, 4-2 - 2nd Period

I thought one tribe wouldn't hold an election

That tribe had given their approval back in 1972 in a peace pipe ceremony that gave North Dakota the name for eternity. The tribal council didn't feel it necessary to vote because of this previous ceremony. The NCAA refused to acknowledge this ceremony (although, I don't necessarily blame them given that UND agreed that the tribe had to vote as a result of their settlement...but I won't get into that).

Well, most racist nickname ever except for my boss' high school in Pekin, Illinois, who, until 1981, were known as the "chin_s"

I still think they should just go with the Fighting Sue, just to thumb there nose at the NCAA's.

And even more thanks to you -- appreciate that. Evidently the NCAA knows what's in their best interest better than they do?

Yeah, there is definitely something ironic about the white man...err...NCAA...telling the tribes how they need to do things to help protect their interests.

Re: UNH at Denver - Saturday 11/24/12

Beat me to it!

(And somehow my NFL team is allowed to keep the most grossly racist nickname of all time)

Yah.....how the he11 are the Redskins still allowed to keep their name???? In the city where national laws are written???

Yeah, there were a few interesting attempts, including Suhaki (pronounced Sioux Hockey), which apparently is some sort of Asian goat (if you are interested... http://www.suhaki.com/). They made up jerseys and everything, including a video featuring Zach Parise.

Personally, I would like them to forever just be the University of North Dakota, but that just isn't in the cards. I just hope they pick a name that is unique to the area.

Didn't the benefactor of the new arena have fighting Sioux basically permanently imprinted in cement all over the arena?

Re: UNH at Denver - Saturday 11/24/12

Meanwhile, I'm watching the NCAA's #1 ranked Fighting Irish play USC on TV.

Did they say that was OK as long as it wasn't Drunken Fighting Irish???

Cement? Hahaha...you clearly haven't been to the Ralph.

To answer your question, yes. There are something along the lines of like 4500 Sioux logos in the arena; however, they can never be replaced. When they wear out (or the items that they are on wear out) they must be removed (and obviously replaced by non-logo versions). Basically, expect that arena to be kept in optimum shape, so they can keep the logos in there for a loooooooong time.
