UNH 2026-27 Season Let's Go 'Cats!

Separate subject...
I can't remember how well New Hampshire 'travels,' but if you have any fans coming to Colgate in Hamilton, N.Y., this weekend, I have a suggestion:

I sit in Section 9, top row 6, near a proud former New Hampshire University hockey player (forward turned defenseman).
His name is R. Braden Houston and he played at UNH in 1963-66.
On Saturday, December 28, 1963, he scored the final goal in UNH's 6-3 win over Vermont in the finals of the Yankee Conference Tournament and was named to the all-tournament team.
He was UNH Captain in his senior year of 1965-66 and earned himself a spot on the United Press International (UPI) All-Eastern Small College hockey team (along with Dude Thorn of UNH).
I believe that he still holds the UNH record for most goals by a defenseman (career, 1964-66), which was 35 goals.

He later served as the head coach for Colgate University Men’s Ice Hockey team from 1972-1975 and Head Coach of the Colgate Golf team for 28 years and was the Head Coach of the Colgate University Women’s Ice Hockey program transitioning it from a club program (1995-1997) to a varsity program (1997-1999) before retiring in 2005.

Anyway, I am sure that he would enjoy meeting current UNH men's ice hockey fans and staff at this weekend's games. I have gotten to know him over the last nine years as a Colgate season ticketholder, and I just think the world of him and his wife "Chipper."
Here is his wiki bio and another bio (with his photo)...

Feel free to come by, say 'hi' and shake his hand!!
Cool story about Mr. Houston! If I were making this trip I would be thrilled to meet him! Thanks for sharing...

Game day today! Happy for the first 2 game weekend of the year!

The ‘Cats gotta get at least one this weekend to remain relevant, especially with a tough next weekend with MSU coming to town. More would certainly be appreciated though!

Fri: UNH 3 COLGATE 2
Sat: UNH 2 COLGATE 4

I also hope to see Kendrick this weekend at some point. I’d like to see them get back to a rotation (something that has mostly been lacking the last few years).

Anyone make it up to Hamilton to watch in person this weekend?

Let’s go!

Solid 1st period. Missed the first goal it happened so quick! If I had to nitpick too many icings… Nice play by PvR leading to the 2nd goal.

Keep it up going into the 2nd.

Nice to get the first W of the year, and congrats to Guite for his first 2 collegiate goals. He had a number of other opportunities as well - seems like he has a knack for getting the puck to the net.

I agree with HR the second had stretches of ugliness that will need to get cleaned up. They looked a bit better in the 3rd but they need to play a full 60 minutes against the better teams to have a shot. It’s still early and a number of defensive lapses will need to get addressed. On the flip side I’ve been impressed with the offense thus far scoring 10 goals through the first 3 games we are already at nearly ~15% of the total goals we scored last year.

Also I didn’t realize until tonight they changed a rule regarding the faceoffs that I believe players are still getting used to as there were many switch outs on both sides. Something to keep an eye on as the season progresses.

Onto tomorrow night.

Guite looked strong has decent playmaking ability as well. Cleaned up some things in the 3rd which was good to see but they have to be better..still getting the W is a positive!
Kudos to Ring and Johnson for their2 pt nights and Simpson gets his first W in net with the 'Cats

Whats up with JP Turner? Big q for tomorrow night will MS7 switch up goalies? (I doubt it..?)

Watched. Good effort. Won a ton of 50/50 pucks which is encouraging. Dump and chase actually had the "chase" part. Far too much icing.

Agreed, Ref, Guite was impressive.
Here's how the convo went between him/his handlers and the MS7 crew this summer:
MS7: "We're thinking of having you stay in the Q one more season."
Guite: "Well, if you do that, I won't be here when you come back."
MS7: "Well in that case, we think we can find some space/$$."
(MS7 to Stewie: "We'll have Niko take another year cuz he's probably not coming anyway.")

It's totally a players market. MS7 is thanking his lucky stars that he got (dumb) lucky landing this kid.

Johnson (20) has total motor and a bunch of nice skill. Dude is everywhere, plays real hard.

Guess I'll start watch some of the other guys closer now that I have a clue abt these two...

Oh and lastly, game would have been a blowout if UNH could have converted on only just HALF of the grade-A chances they created (or were given). You gotta finish more of those 2-on-1s, 3-on-nos, and wide open back-doors. With luck they figure that out
