Agreed. Here is his competition for time on the blue line with the Avs this coming season, with 2024/25 stats: Cale Makar (80 gm, 30 G, 92 pts), Devon Toews (76, 10, 44), Sam Girard (73, 3, 24), Sam Malinski (76, 5, 15), Josh Manson (48, 1, 15), and Keaton Middleton (41, 0, 2). Before you suggest that maybe Alex can replace Keaton, consider that the Avs also added Brent Burns this off season. Burns will be beginning his 22nd NHL season, with 1497 games played, 261 goals, 910 points, and 855 pen mins; has not missed a game in his last four seasons; and is a +45 his past three seasons with the Canes. So, unless multiple Avs D-men find themselves on the IL for long stretches, I doubt that Alex Gagne will see much ice time on the parent club this coming season, and likely far fewer than the 20 games that Angus Crookshank has logged with the Senators parent club in Ottawa the past two seasons. But, will be fun to follow, as we have so few alums to track in the NHL.
