UNH 2024/2025 Goldberg Edition

Reports are that he's doing well...and I believe after tests etc at a Boston hospital he returned to Durham thank God!
Thanks for this good news, HR.

Like Chuck, Grouchy, and others, the first thing that came to my mind last night was Patrick Eaves’ full-speed knee to the head of sprawled-on-ice, way out of the crease Joe Exter all those years ago.

In checking the Hockey DB site just now, I was pleased to see that Joe Exter has carved out a nice assistant coaching career, just transitioning to the ECHL two years ago after many years at the D1 college level.

In contrast, Patrick Eaves played 15 years in the NHL, and even if his offensive stats other than penalty minutes are not on par with Joe Thornton’s over 24 NHL seasons, it looks like Patrick is giving Jumbo Joe a run in the full beard department.

Valiant effort on the part of New Hampshire, was great to listen to. Hoping I can repair the fingernail marks in my furniture sometime soon. DiMatteo performed over and above the call of duty in the role of a fill-in keeper. Reid played well, although I was frustrated with his taking two consecutive penalties in the latter half of the game. We must celebrate these small achievements, even if it wasn’t a win.

Place doesn't seem to be in a very celebratory mood, based on participation (or lack thereof).

Relieved that Whale is doing OK and back in his dorm. Did scumbag Gasseau serve a suspension for last night's slew footing?

Yes he did...went to the sth event after the game. Team that was there were upbeat about tonight. Great game tonight..proud of them and esp Rico..
Onto UML who I think we might play in the first round ...Oops correction that would be the flagship if the tourney started this weekm

I was going to go into hiding as Whale's health is more important than anything else. Now that he is ok an was at morning breakfast, I can resume the program.

Tonight's assessment is

1. Dematteo may need to get another look. He played his ass off tonight and should be HE defender of the week.
2. The cross checking penalty was weak at best. HE has an officiating problem
3. Ronan Walsh was a star in the first two periods. Taking the body and also created PP in the 2nd.
4. Ref with the question of the night, Libbys or Scorps
5. MS7 MIA from the post game event. I asked Torts if he could be available next week, guessing no. But why did the first period work so well and then change? Walsh was MIA 3rd period. Get him out there. Big body and not afraid of areas Conmy won't visit. Another coaching SNAFU

Haha you put me up to the q ..anyway...we like Walsh...Mr.HR says he's the future of that team and likes his physical play. We wondered where he was in the 3rd???
Haven't been to Libbys this season maybe next week...last home game of the season!

I wonder if Tortorella, as the adult in the room so to speak, can prevail upon Souza to lower himself to meet with the hoi polloi?

If the man thinks he is being professionally hamstrung by the stinginess of the State of NH - we the people, basically - then give the man the podium, and let him make his case directly to the people, I say. He has his scoreboard, the rink has been shrunken, lighting and ice plant are both upgraded ... and here we are, even further behind the eight ball than at almost any time in his tenure. So, now we are to believe it's the locker room and other behind-the-scenes facilities that need to be upgraded?? Let's say we go ahead and do that, as TDL is reinvigorated by this year's 11th place finish, and inspiring MBPBEGAM OT loss to (fill-in-the-blank-U). How does any of that change his perception among the advisors who have been steering their best kids away from UNH, because MS7 can't develop his own players to even attain regular AHL level playing time, barring Angus Crookshank, Filip Engaras and Will MacKinnon???

That Souza cannot even bring himself to face his program's most dedicated followers in a simple post-game Q&A tells a tale.

For craps & giggles, can we get Tortorella or even Umile to answer questions about MS7 under truth serum?? I'd pay to see that ...

I was going to write that you forgot Gildon, but after three years in the AHL even he has moved across the Pond. I guess that it really was Helsten responsible for MS7’s only winning season.

With all due respect... Seriously?! Moral victories & participation trophies? Ra, Ra, Ra! Warm up the duck boats!! I've suffered far too long in the past decade+ to buy into "mediocrity is progress". Nope, no celebration...
Well sadly...these things (small victories) are all we have right now. And yeah they don't earn you a trip to the Garden...sigh.

But I will say listening to those players last night I felt they put on a brave face and expressed their gratitude to the fans. I didn't expect MS7 to be there (as mentioned only JTorts was there as far as I could see).

Too bad..because noone in that crowd would have asked him any tough questions and it might have gone a long way. No biggie...we were there for the players anyway. (Speaking for myself)

Given the fact that an untested goalie (RicoD) played a great game and we didn't get blown out either night that was enough given the
course of this season's dismal trajectory.

Rico...a "complete unknown" who stepped up big time. At least we made it interesting between the Beagles and the Black Bears coming down the stretch for the HE spoils.

I'll take that small victory.

Back in October, when we were hyping our MacPherson twins, even I thought they'd amount to at least "something" when I posed that combined, they would produce ~8g/20pts in their freshman year.

To-date, season 2024-25, with 2 games to go, 1g/2pts. Wow, what was I smoking??! Carnak I ain't.

I get it, senior heavy team, bla, bla, bla..., but Mike, you can't keep swinging and missing like this; it's not helpful!

So, as prospects abound in the CHA, what are the odds that they stick around, or, that they are cut? Time to change it up...

Does anyone seriously believe that MS7 and his assistants will be any better at recruiting from the CHA than they have been in American juniors? If they actually do get any CHA recruits to campus, one look at the locker room and weight training facilities and they are outta here (just kidding, the Jumbotron should offset all other facility deficiencies).

Sam Oliver is coming...at least, that's the plan...of course, you have to hope he does. I think we will know more about who is coming, who is staying. On another note...I'm excited for our incoming goal tender Eliot Seguin-Lescarbeau. Now whether or not this all comes to fruition we'll see. Echoing Dan's comments about CHL players, Souza has to be ruthless if he's serious about being successful, with cutting ties with players that aren't cutting it and replacing them with those who are.

See Bazin, Norm...who has gone from an 8 game season last year to where he is this season. (I have no clue about his recruiting strategy from last season to now but he's obviously turned it around from last year)

Will Sandowski come next season or has he been put off another year? I need to review CHC's list...

I would be surprised if Jack Sadowski arrives in Durham this fall, as he has yet to score a goal in his first year of juniors (20 games at Cedar Rapids and 12 games at West Kelowna in the BCHL). Most UNH recruits from Canadian juniors, including Krog, Gare, and the Hemingway bros in the BCHL and Haydar and Winnk in the OPJHL played at least two years, and Haydar played three. One exception was Bekar who played just one year in the BCHL. Sure wish that he had stayed at UNH for senior year. Too many recent UNH recruits who could not score goals when they got to Durham, but at least most of them scored at least a few goals in juniors.

So, how ironic would it be if it turns out MS7 screwed the pooch this season because he didn't play his paisan goalie enough?!?

Similar thoughts.

Of course, knowing MS7, DiMatteo will go on a heater, leading the Cats to an upset or two to end up at the Garden.

In the spotlight of positive attention once again, Souza mumbles his way through a NESN interview pontificating about how this, holding DiMatteo back, was as all part of his "master plan" to lull the rest of the Hockey East teams into a false sense of security ahead of the playoffs.

In the delirium of a Causeway Street return, our AD fka as SB gives Souza a lifetime contract and Umile's old wardrobe of mock turtlenecks elbow patched blazers. Everyone knows you have to look good to play good. The number of the local Jazzercize Chapter will also be (secretly) shared in an attempt to firm things up and shrink the paunch. This, of course, will lead to the inevitable comparisons to Greg Brown of BC with his propaganda poster good looks and perennial national rankings.

You heard it here first!

Walsh is a hammer out there and everything looks like a nail. I don't know what I think of his offensive speed or skill and still an excellent 4th line checking guy. Causes lots of disruption.

I also appreciated splitting up the 4th line and adding a little grit up and down the line-up. If your top 9 aren't going to light the lamp then stop protecting them as a the scoring part of the line up.
