Re: UNH 2018-19: Souza The Opportunity

Puff piece on Luce Canaan today on the front page of USCHO ...

https://www.uscho.com/2018/11/08/ca...ool-making-that-commitment-to-hockey-program/

Question to Dave H: when do we get away from the constant tie-ins with BC and Coach York? Usually Luce takes care of this stuff himself, but unless DH is part of a ventriloquist's act with LC nowadays, it's DH whose carrying his water for him, and needlessly. I think we all know LC was one of Yorkie's assistants … but he wasn't the only one, either. Do those other guys get the same "treatment"?

Then again, even when he's being relatively restrained and modest, you can always count on good ol' Luce for at least one of those convenient true-but-exaggerated irrelevant thingies he's always mastered …

"But here, now, the athletic department in UConn has always had great tradition. It by far has the most national championships of any school in Hockey East as an athletic department. And now it’s making that commitment to the hockey program as well."

All I can say … Luce, don't go changing, baby … love you just the way you are ...

Well, all I know is we haven't beaten them in 3 seasons...and am really ready to see THAT change...Aren't they under fire about their arena situation? Won't be going to the XL this season as they game is on a Friday night. Kind of like it there; good food!

It's almost as if he's trying to stir excitement about his program for recruits and the public, creating the appearance of building. How dare he!!!!

Re: UNH 2018-19: Souza The Opportunity

Best of luck to your Wildcats, especially Coach Souza, hand selected by your nemesis.

For someone claiming to be the Sworn Enemy of the Perpetually Offended, you continue to produce written evidence that you are perpetually offended by this man.

You must be a millennial, as you clearly don't understand the (really very simple) difference between being amused and "offended". If you can't tell the difference … well, I guess I'm not surprised, and you'd deserve every last drop of coaching mediocrity your savior is going to continue to bestow upon Storrs for the foreseeable future. Enjoy!! :)

I know, I know … like that scene from the Wizard of Oz where the Great & Powerful (projected) Oz tells his awestruck visitors, "Pay no attention to that man behind the curtain?" That's my "vision" of good ol' Luce, stealing a living by conning folks out in the middle of nowhere, just hoping no one catches onto him until he's got tenure. He's done a good enough job so far with the ruse, only a few more years to go … ;)

Yeah caught the game...was more entertaining than the Bruins that's for sure. Oh yeah, they are for real. It's still early of course and anything can happen...but, as they are calling themselves, "NewMass" is going to make some noise this season. Good for them. Hey I'll be in Lowell tonight and will be able to make the Libby's rendezvous after all. See you there? Will look for you at the concourse tonight at UML. Give me a time for Libby's. Found that if you don't get in there before 5:30 it's too late so I'll be there most likely before then! e.cat...will you be joining us?

Oh, and not to 'pile on' about the ticket thingy...but had a chuckle looking at my BU tix for tomorrow night and see they read "BU Bulldogs". Whaaa? 'Ruff.

I'm going to the game for sure but not sure about Libby's yet. GO CATS!

With Tim Neverett doing their play by play I would say so. The play of the team doesn't hurt either. Good game to watch last night.

Was he the lead commentator? Did a great job. Looked like they had a decent student section/fan base show up too. Not that Mullins was filled to capacity, but, more than I've ever seen/experienced it. Building a hockey culture there it looks like!

Re: UNH 2018-19: Souza The Opportunity

Yes. He said they had 6000+ in attendance, the largest crowd in several years. They were into it for sure. They were well represented at the Whitt last week, too. Some were chanting. Annoyingly. If the UMass program continues to ascend we will soon be reminded where "Stay classy not UMassy originated.

"I would rather be stabbed in Lowell than a Black Bear in Maine."

I will try to be at Libby's by 5:15 pm Saturday.

Re: UNH 2018-19: Souza The Opportunity

UNH down 1-0 and outshot 4-2 early. No Engaras. Engaras played six games in the SHL and has now sat the first seven games of his UNH career. Meanwhile, Melvin Karlson at Lake State played eight SHL games - and I believe two other professional games at a lower level - but played in games 3 and 4 of the season for the Lakers...??

It's curious. It can't be a talent concern with Engaras - I expect he's easily in the line up based on talent, myself, but even if he was on the fringe Souza has made a point in getting everyone in at least a bit...

So is there a more significant penalty for one reason or another? Did he accept more unnecessary benefits than Karlsson (did Karlsson specifically avoid these benefits)? Are the situations entirely different, somehow? Have the compliance offices simply approached the situation with a different understanding? Is there an injury keeping him out - at least now?

I certainly hope it's not the old MJ style penalty (a year plus games played) a la what Matile faced. An announcement would make sense with any sort of penalty - though I'm not surprised they have not bothered to give one not anyone has bothered to ask...

---

Nazarian from Pierson ties the score at 1-1.

UML never scored. UNH is winning 1-0.

Re: UNH 2018-19: Souza The Opportunity

Apparently it is just, 1-0. Per UNH twitter, the Nazarian goal was the first of the game. Live stats had a UML goal from Ryan Lohin entered around 4 minutes into the game. That goal remained in the stat program past Nazarian's goal at the nine minute mark or so, but it has since been deleted...??

That is a strange mistake to make mid-game - it involves a lot of specific typing steps - and then leave up for ten minutes of real time...
