UND @ UNO Dean and Dave take it outside Feb 8th & 9th.

Re: UND @ UNO Dean and Dave take it outside Feb 8th & 9th.

Who could have ever had the foresight to think it might be warm and rain in Omaha. Their average high for the day is above freezing...

Re: UND @ UNO Dean and Dave take it outside Feb 8th & 9th.

Got my hands on my spare phone battery from the car.

The whole night (besides the game itself for UNO) is a compete fiasco.

When replacing the nets between 1st & 2nd periods after resurfacing the ice, the person that drills the hole for the goal pipes drilled through the pipes underneath and the coolant has now flooded the ice and the game is now delayed again to repair this--if it can be. Delay of unknown length. What a mess.

Edit: Here's a pic (not mine):

Unbelievably, after a 30 minute or so delay, this had been "fixed" and we are back under way.

The ice looks like the Ghostbusters exploded Slimer.

Thank you Whioux for telling Red Moooo their pipe dream of a Cup will never happen.

13,650. In retrospect, this event was never going to sell out. Not when the minimum ticket price was thirty bucks--for general admission! Most seats were in the 50 - 80 bucks each range. It was maybe 60/40 UNO fans and 80/20 UND fans in the third period.

Words fail me about the level of debacle this entire event was for our school, our fans, and our city. UNO fans are melting down on Twitter, Facebook, and on Mavpuck about it. Some of the nuttier people even have insinuated that maybe Trev Alberts and Coach Blais both need to go. That sentiment is not entirely all about this past weekend, though. There are other things going on here as far as how UNO has treated their fanbase the past 2 or 3 seasons or so, and, in particular, their season ticket holders. There are also on-ice issues people are unhappy about. One of the biggies that has many people over-the-top-up-in-arms is the fact that UNO got called for it's 12th, and, no, I am not kidding, twelfth Too Many Men on the Ice penalty of the season yesterday. That's just one thing in a litany of frustration that's come bubbling to the surface in the past 24 hours.

I'm trying to reflect on the whole thing myself before saying something I might regret later. I'll have more to say on the topic in the UNO thread when I think this debacle through a little better.

North Dakota's defense was magnificent against us all weekend long and that really carried the weekend for them. Thanks to UND fans for bolstering the local entertainment economy and giving us at least one bright spot in an otherwise lost weekend around here. There were predictably a LOT of drunken buffoons in evidence (given that there were literally several thousand UND fans in town) but, thankfully, I personally didn't have any interactions with any of them.

The better team definitely won this weekend. The better program, too.

Woooo! We're awesome at being drunken buffoons! Come to the F5 and you'll get to interact with some of us for sure! You meet me and I promise I'll puke on your shoes for you!

I saw 2 of them in handcuffs being escorted off the elevators. LOL

yes I think gaptooth has lost his touch. I hope we don't have to wait decades like Mankato did for the school to come to it's senses. Dean has had enough time to recruit enough players but we're not any better off than the dump and chase Kemp years.
Trev needs to quit hiding out, he needs to get out and mingle with the folks like he used to.
Whoever was in charge of the music during the event needs to do the same during our games at the clink. It's high time to get our organist some music lessons teach him to take off his mittens while he plays.
AND yes the better team won and they made it look easy. just stop as many dump and chase attempts as you can and clog up the slot in front of the UND net. They made it look easy.

You can say what you want about both Michigan and state this season, but at least they know how to do outdoor games. :p

Re: UND @ UNO Dean and Dave take it outside Feb 8th & 9th.

An outsiders take on the situation in Omaha:
It's hard to win hockey games when your goaltending is wildly inconsistent.
Friday night was a close game. Saturday Faulkner sieved it up, you're down by 3 in the first, and that makes the game so much easier for UND. Which isn't to say they didn't execute and play very well, but when you're sitting on a 3 goal lead it's a bit easier to make sure you have guys back and to force the other team to dump the puck in.

I really think the goaltending has been the issue for UNO. It puts everyone on the team on edge when you just don't know what you're going to get from your netminder. If they just had some consistency there....it doesn't have to be great, just consistent...I think UNO has the personnel to be a very good team.

Sure until UND loses a game and half those fans go off the deep end again wanting Hakstol to be fired. We have a crapload of bipolar fans.

Wow... what a weekend :( - Tic. prices, getting swept, dangerous ice...
On the bright side, spending a day outside, tailgating, cold beverages....Not a bad way to spend a February day. :D
