UND 21-22 Season -- 13 new faces of the 27

Well Omaha could of handed the Penrose Cup to the boys last night but the peed it down their leg 5-2 after being up 2-1 on Denver. Boys will just have to get it done next weekend to get their third Penrose in a row. This will be the most unlikely one for sure

Nice OT win - and PR 3peat. But... no live scores (the only game blocked on USCHO and CHN)? No YouTube highlights? No SiouxSports for crucial late 3P score? When you've got a hot product, refusing to put it out there seems... anti-something. Suppose I could sell a kidney for an NCHC TV acct, since I still have one left. But... what?

Notre Dame it is. Puck drops at 5 Thursday and will be on espnU. Sounds like no Sanderson again but Kleven will be back after serving his one game suspension. Winner will play either Mankato St or Harvard on Saturday

Another season comes to an end. In the middle of January I didn’t think this team would make the tourney let alone win the Penrose Cup. Injuries were piling up and the goaltending was not good. But they got on a bit of a hot streak and were playing pretty decent on the most part. What killed them at the Frozen Faceoff and their defeat to Notre Dame last night was special teams. Powerplay last night really stunk and it has pretty much all season. With that said on to next season

Special teams, both PP and PK, dumb/untimely penalties, injuries and lack of scoring. All add up to another early exit from the tournament. But like you I didn't expect the team to even make the tournament so it was fun to watch - in February anyway.

Yeah, that was a tough loss. Guys will need to step up to fill his plate, as I had him pegged for about 20 goals with around 35-40 total points this year.

That being said, I still think we should have a very good shot at a top-half NCHC finish, to go along with making the NCAAs. But definitely not as dominant as the last couple years.

I always like to look back at my thoughts from early in the season. The loss referenced in the quote was Weatherby.

To put it into perspective, I usually categorize my expectations for conference play with one of the following: (a) compete for a Penrose (top 1-2); (b) top-half finish (3-4); (c) be in the mix for home ice (4-6); or (d) bottom rung (7-8). For national play expectations, I typically go as follows: (a) title contender (should make Frozen Four, if not win whole thing); (b) capable of making a run (regional finalist / maybe make Frozen Four); (c) make the NCAAs (make the tournament, maybe make regional final); (d) bubble team (maybe make it, maybe not); or (e) no shot.

So, we exceeded my expectations conference-wise, and met expectations national-wise. It is always disappointing losing in the NCAA Tournament...whether that happens in the first round in the national title game. However, to me, the biggest thing to keep in mind is what you expected.

I will wait to see what the roster looks like in September/early October before setting any expectations for next season's squad, but I think (barring crazy departures) I will likely have higher expectations next season.
