Zach Parise named to CHN's 2nd team All-Decade team.

A pretty good list. Not sure I would have put Ryan Potulny on the list. You compare his 3 seasons (slightly less due to injury) to that of another MN player like Johnny Pohl, and they don't really compare. Even Oshie, who never put up a single great season, had better numbers and lead his team to 3 Frozen Fours.

Because it's a well known fact the sioux turn their season around when they play the gophers. Miami inevitably implodes. Most sane voters can't stomach voting for the badgers. And denver had a few votes to spare.

something like that. When you see a team like North Dakota right now getting first place votes, it shows that the voters think there is no clear cut #1 in the country. Which I agree with.

Still. They are .500 in their last 8 games and were swept by Denver when they met. I don't know how a voter gives them first place votes over Denver. Denver is 5-1-2 in their last 8 by comparison. Shows why Poles are dumb.

pollsters don't look at history. They look at what happened over the previous weekend and move the teams up or down based on those results. And yes, poles are stupid.

And this is a huge part of why they are stupid. Your average poll voter takes a very short-term viewpoint and puts little consideration into the season as a whole.

Re: UND 2009-2010 Season Thread - The Lawnmower and Cookie tossing edition!

Weekly Wed update from Brad:

Chay Genoway is still out -- hasn't gotten better over the last month or so. He's still having trouble performing every-day tasks like looking at a computer screen. Until he can do things like that, skating/playing is out of the question. With only about two-and-a-half months left on the schedule, a medical redshirt application may come into play if he doesn't get better fast.

Also, as everyone knows, forwards Brett Hextall and Corban Knight are out with leg injuries.

On the Minnesota side, Don Lucia says that everyone other than Jay Barriball (out for season) and Taylor Matson should be available.

Lucia said he was asked earlier this week if Genoway would play this weekend. Lucia responded, "No." The other person said "Oh, that's good." Lucia said: "No, it's not. I wish he were playing. I wish Jay were playing. It's good for the fans and everyone involved. You want the best players playing."

Lucia also said that Genoway is the best player he's seen in the league this year.

If Genoway can't make it back this season (which is looking more and more likely) I really hope he decides to apply for the medical redshirt and give his senior season another go. He's such a fun player to watch.

Good luck to Chay guys - from afar he seems like a great kid and you hate to see that happen to him.

East coast bias. :)

Re: UND 2009-2010 Season Thread - The Lawnmower and Cookie tossing edition!

He's a great hockey player, and from what I hear from others around the league, a first rate person as well.

Head injuries are very, very serious matters, and there is a lot of medical evidence in recent years that suggests longer recovery periods are needed than previously employed. If he gets a red shirt, it's probably in his best interests as a player and as a human being to make sure he's fully healed before coming back. The last thing he needs is to come back too early and get hurt again, which could have lifetime consequences. I am sure Hakstol, his staff and the team docs there are going to do what is in the players' best interests.

4.0 Student as well.

Re: UND 2009-2010 Season Thread - The Lawnmower and Cookie tossing edition!

what are the rules on medical redshirt? Can he be put on it at any time? Or is there a timeframe?

There was a poster over on Sioux Sports that said if Chay is able to play at all this season he can't take a medical red shirt.

and that makes sense if he plays at all in the 2nd half. But that doesn't appear to be likely.

Isn't the rule 10 games, or 10% of the games, or something like that? How many games did he play in?

Doesn't everyone get a 4.0 at UND? :p I kid, I kid.

I like Lucia's comments about it not being good that Genoway is out and that having the best players play is how it should be. I could not agree more. Genoway was definitely the best defenseman in the league this year (sorry, DOTA), and provided a huge boost and leadership for your young team. I enjoyed watching him play, even if he was busy scoring goals at will on the PP against the Gophs. IMO, I think he should not play the rest of this year and come back 100% next year.

Just an FYI, Fink is no longer listed as a UND recruit by Heisenberg.
