UML Recruiting Thread, 2014 and beyond

Thanks for sharing. I forgot to mention that the USHL site has updated his profile again with Lowell listed as his commitment.

It looks like he turns 21 early March. Since that's still during the USHL season, does he have to stop playing once he turns 21? I thought I had read somewhere that you can lose some NCAA eligibility in that situation.

Given that, I'm wondering if there is a chance he joins the team next semester should the issue with classes Justin mentioned get resolved.

He's definitely a player I'm looking forward to seeing.

That Marino kid sounds like a solid guy too. Maybe Harvard won't accept him (plz)

Re: UML Recruiting Thread, 2014 and beyond

Merrimack continues their tradition of getting big players. Picked up a '99 commit today, who's already 6'4".

Re: UML Recruiting Thread, 2014 and beyond

NLI early signing period for hockey starts today and remains open for a week.

Cedar Rapids Defenseman Trevor Zins has committed to Lowell
Now we will have a Zink and a Zins!

Knowing how Bazin recruits, I'm assuming this is for 2017 at the earliest? Born 7/23/98, from Saint Michael, MN. He's 5'11, 171 pounds ... 9 games played this year, no points for the D-man.

Thanks Scott. Any thoughts on Trevor?

Typical Mark Carlson defenseman. Good puck mover, good skater, flashes a good shot. Made the Roughriders as a free agent out of camp. It is taking some time to adjust to the USHL and will need another year here, but he will progress nicely. He comes to CR from a smaller school in Minnesota.

Re: UML Recruiting Thread, 2014 and beyond

The Riverhawks have a new commit:

James Winkler-RW
Youngstown (USHL)
6'3 193 4/22/96

<blockquote class="twitter-tweet" lang="en"><p lang="en" dir="ltr">Help us congratulate <a href="https://twitter.com/JamesWinkler18">@JamesWinkler18</a>, who has committed to play college hockey for <a href="https://twitter.com/RiverHawkHockey">@RiverHawkHockey</a>! <a href="https://twitter.com/hashtag/ItStartsHere?src=hash">#ItStartsHere</a> <a href="https://t.co/Va5mw0Ro0q">pic.twitter.com/Va5mw0Ro0q</a></p>— Youngstown Phantoms (@YtownPhantoms) <a href="https://twitter.com/YtownPhantoms/status/670300172061118465">November 27, 2015</a></blockquote>
<script async src="//platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script>

It looks like James was a former Northeastern commit. At first I thought the tweet from Youngstown might have been a mistake, but it looks like James retweeted it.

I would imagine he comes in next season.

Currently has a 6-7-13 line in 15 games played.

Also to note, the top two goalie in the USHL haven't committed. Both have been drafted so not sure if they're looking to jump to the AHL though one was drafted 7th round to the Rangers and the other is a Bruins 3rd round pick.

As far as goaltending goes, I would imagine UML is all set in that area assuming this year's freshmen stay with the team. They already have a drafted goalie coming in (though he's not having a good season). I'm not too worried about that though. I have no idea how good Madison is defensively, and Lowell's staff has done a great job developing goaltenders so far.

Just saw this on Twitter:
Jeff Cox ‏@JeffCoxSports 22m22 minutes ago
Ex-Malden Catholic star Tyler Sifferlen (Islanders HC) no longer committed to UMass Lowell. Hope he lands on his feet. Be a real good D3 F.

Disappointing for the kid, but you have to admit it's not all that surprising. He's had a tough time since heading off to juniors from MC. I wish him the best.

Re: UML Recruiting Thread, 2014 and beyond

Haven’t done this in a while, and really should set up a new thread since we’re two years past what this thread was for, but I’m being lazy today.

Re: UML Recruiting Thread, 2014 and beyond

The tweet from Cox seems to be deleted. Justin Soderberg just tweeted that his source tells him that Sifferlen is still committed to Lowell.

Considering that his source IS Sifferlen, I'll trust it. ;)
