UML Recruiting Thread, 2014 and beyond

Re: UML Recruiting Thread, 2014 and beyond

Another recruit according to Mike McMahon's twitter.

Mike McMahon ‏@MikeMcMahonCHN - '95 John Edwardh has committed to UMass Lowell for (likely) 2014. 5-11 F scored 37pts in 54games with Okotoks (AJHL) last season

Edwardh really soared in the AJHL playoffs, scoring 19 points (including 13 goals) in 16 playoff games this past spring with Okotoks.

Awesome.

Good article about him, with some scouting info as well.
Red Line Report Scouting Overview: Shown to be a big game player, elevating his game down the stretch and into the playoffs which speaks volumes for his potential down the road. Currently a standout on the power play, combining a hesitation free release with a scorers touch in tight. Great at navigating the offensive zone, playing with his head on a swive. His hockey IQ allows him to view plays developing and opposing teams tend to overlook his location in scoring areas. Quick puck handling permits him to get past coverage to extend a play around the net. You cannot teach this kid's offensive instincts, has the potential to be a regular scorer moving forward. Must continue to add leg strength as he has trouble playing through contact in open ice and defensive zone effort needs some work as he loses assignments suggesting further conditioning is needed.

View from 123 does a good job listing out the 5 UML future players that have been put on the protected lists by USHL teams.

Re: UML Recruiting Thread, 2014 and beyond

CJHL's Pre-Season Top 20 is out, and a couple of Lowell recruits are on a couple of the teams.
#1 Brooks Bandits, AJHL (Corey Scammon, D '14)
#15 Langley Rivermen, BCHL (Evan Anderson, F '14 or '15)
#19 Okotoks Oilers, AJHL (John Edwardh, F '14)

The USHL's regular season starts two weeks from this Friday. Lowell will have three players there.

NAHL Showcase Day 1 thoughts from Chis Dilks of the Western College Hockey blog.

-One of the players I was most interested to see today was Austin '96 forward and UMass-Lowell commit Guillaume Leclerc. Leclerc is from France, and was a scoring phenom in France's U22 league last year. Overall, he made a pretty good North American debut. He netted a power play goal in the first period, and played on what was Austin's best line alongside big forwards Jay Dickman and Lucas Kohls, seeing extra shifts late in a tight game.

Leclerc is a smaller forward, and not a particularly blazing fast skater, but seems to have pretty good strength in both his upper and lower body. The thing that stood out the most to me is his unbelievable ability to control the puck while it's in his skates. Between his feet and his quick hands, he has the rare ability to turn a bad pass from a teammate into a good pass.

Re: UML Recruiting Thread, 2014 and beyond

Guillaume Leclerc nets his second goal in as many game for the Austin Bruins at 12:17 in the first period today.

EDIT: Plus an assist in the second period. He has three points (2 goals, 1 assist) over the first two game.

Ryan Collins scored two goals and an assist tonight in the Jr. Sens win. He has 16 points (7 goals, 9 assists) in his first 9 games this season... Wow.
