UML Recruiting: Finally in the 20s!

their GM mentioned in their locker cleanout press avail that 4 players w remaining eligibility would be leaving- two already committed and two without known commitments. Plamondon was one of them. i heard UML was the likely spot last night, now we have confirmation.

besides the obvious defensive strengths, he has some puck moving capabilities and he transitions well. he fits in with Bazin's mandate on mobility too, building from last year.

might not help with the scoring desperately needed, but you can do worse than the best defensive defenseman in the QMJHL, a league where defending is basically an extreme sport. easy W

i don't see any obvious UML specific connections, but he was in the same Quebec youth hockey system with Cornell D Xavier Vellieux, who had a great freshman year. 5 seasons together before paths diverged

Thanks for the analysis. Norm is French Canadian, and several of us here have wondered why he hasn’t leveraged that to recruit players from the Q up to this point.

After reading this article from CHN, I don't think that's true. It appears they're trying to grandfather the current commits in for what you're saying, but from what this says...

If the NCAA wants a) five years of eligibility with few exceptions, b) standardization, and c) no carve outs for hockey, it can still accomplish that by making the start date from when you enroll in college. You start the five-year clock at 18 or 19, whenever that is, and set 19 as the max age. If you enroll at 20, you still get four years.

This push that Adam Wodon is asking for seems to say that if hockey pushes to start the clock at enrollment, they could come in at 21, but they would lose 2 years of their eligibility.

Yeah, I assumed you were talking about the commits that are currently coming in for 26-27. Sorry for the confusion. Hope they can figure something out for the recruits in the pipeline that aren't coming in next season
 
Kuzma Voronin flipped from Maine, huge boost. Love that guy, he has 0 chill in the best ways possible- as long as he can rein in the penalties a bit, which he has in the second half of the season. He's super speedy and plays like he's much bigger than he actually is, like a turbocharged Russian Diego Buttazzoni.

He's currently playing in the QMJHL Finals with the Moncton Wildcats. They're stupid deep up front so sometimes he's on the third line, but when he is, the center of that line also leads the entire league in playoff scoring so that isn't all that concerning. Love this one

Interestingly, with the group that decommitted a while back, all of a sudden Lowell will only have 1 freshman who will be 21 before the season begins (Misha Volotovskii). That's different for this roster.

I should've saved this season's thread title for next! Although, with the proposed rule changes, seems like this will be the new norm before long.
