arrogance at his best

"If Lyles hasn't improves his skating at all since leaving BC, than I wouldn't expect too much out of him." (QUOTE JD)

first it is IMPROVED, second you have no idea what a good...

When I said IMPROVED, I was correcting your pathetic grammar saying that it is not IMPROVES but IMPROVED. Sorry JB, I knew you were numb but didn't get the level of numbness. Now I do.

Too bad the person who starts the thread can't restrict the participants :(

I know, then we'd be allowed to think for ourselves and not have our opinion given to us... novel thought.

There is one way to fumigate the place... torch the thread and see if the roaches come back.

I have to wonder if this is their first 8-4 loss since Kevin Kotyluk buried an extra goal as time wound down.

If I was a bc fan, I would worry more about their own D after last night.....

Interior Conference Finals Game 6 as Vernon defeated Salmon Arm 5-4 winning the series 4-2 and their 16th Interior Division-Conference Championship in front of 3,590 fans at the Sunwave Centre.

Malcolm Lyles for the second straight night played a very solid-non flashy game. Lyles didnt jump up into the play and carry the puck, setting up some scoring chances like in Game 5 last night but played a real solid defensive game on the Vipers blueline.

Was that the yr the Globe printed the article before the game about how much superior BC was to have won? They got 28 copies and posted the article in each locker.

Not something you see too often, a team losing games 1 and 2 at home, and then going on to win the next four straight. Nice.

no, that was the year where I believe Tony Voce had a pep talk about how bad they were going to beat Lowell pre-game because its Lowell... thanks NESN!

Any time you score a post-empty-net goal its a nice touch  Even more so when its a season sweep

The BC seniors with the win in their last game against Lowell finally walked out with a winning record against the River Hawks.

Especially when they only had 1 win vs them in 8 tries in the regular season and lost the first 2 at home to them. Mark Ferner is the best coach in Junior Hockey...

Great win by the Vipers and I can assure you that they want to now send more players to UML going forward. Very loyal org..

Re: UML Recruiting, Building for the future

All I can assure you is one thing. You have no clue what you are talking about. Who gives a F what he did at BC in 7 or 8 games, playing 6-8 minutes tops.

Me clipping and pasting an article or saying, "Will be interesting to see who the next coach is and if he will use him to his strengths", is not setting him up for anything.

All I can tell you for a fact is as follows.

1. He went to BC at 17 after playing for two teams that didnt spend a minute coaching him. Eaglebrook and Deerfield. They let him run around and have success based off talent and athleticism. You can do that at that level, not at BC. Eaglebrook being the worst coached of the 2, Deerfield was ok, at best.

Why is this the BC thread? I thought I clicked on the UML Recruiting thread. It says that it is the UML Recruiting thread. Does anyone else read the title of the thread?

Re: UML Recruiting, Building for the future

*** are you talking about? You even had a post on this page referring to BC

Jeff Quebec was a great team manager but not an average head coach. Please dont even start to get into why he was eventualy removed. Other kids had USHL coaches etc, they had him? Please

Eventually removed because he was a bad coach, sure if you say so. It took 16 seasons for them to make the move. Program has been decimated by a small group of entitled(read-loaded$$$) parents who all want their kids to first line centers and a new female athletic director who doesn't know the difference between a hockey game or water polo match and thinks every sporting competition should end in a tie! Would you coach under those conditions?

I'm done no need to reply

Ouch ... no idea who this person is ... but man that's harsh (and not challenging if it's true, because I'll admit I have no idea).

Back to recruits ... Malcolm Lyles and Vernon will be playing Powell River starting Friday night in the Fred Page Cup (BCHL finals).

The USHL recruits are finishing up their regular season, and in the NAHL, Colton Saucerman and Corpus Christi finished their regular season this past weekend without making the playoffs. Saucerman had a 8-26-34 in 39 games since being traded to the NAHL, finishing as the third highest scorer on the team. He was also a -13 on a team that gave up 80 more goals (in 58 games) than they scored.

Vernon now leads Powell River 3-0 in the BCHL Championship. Powell was 49-9 and the number one team in Canada. ML is leading the way.

Top Players: (Vernon)

Malcolm Lyles (1 goal & 1 assist) Played a very solid game at both ends of the rink tonight. Lyles with two nice rushes up ice, setup a highlight reel goal to give Vernon a 2-1 lead.

vipers take strangle hold on series by don klepp | Added 2011-04-04

Malcolm Lyles Had A Strong Game

The Vipers have pushed the Powell River Kings to the brink of elimination with a 4-3 win in Vernon on Monday.

Despite playing aggressively and winning the special teams battle, the Kings could not find a way to beat the Vipers, who could sew up the BCHL final series with a victory at home on Tuesday.

For the first time in the series and the first time in the Viper postseason, the team that allowed the first goal won the game. That goal came at 2:49 of the first period during a Kings power play, when a puck caromed to Cohen Adair in the left faceoff circle. He beat Kirby Halcrow high glove side and the Kings’ early dominance was rewarded.

The Kings continued to press, but a big hit by Brett Corkey on Matt Garbowsky fired up the Vipers and they stormed back with two goals 50 seconds apart.

The first was a power play goal that was similar to Adair’s marker. Darren Nowick and John Knisley won battles along the right boards and the puck squirted to Mike Zalewski, who was open in the right faceoff circle. His low wrister beat Michael Garteig just inside Garteig’s right post at 14:53.

Then Malcolm Lyles took over. He stopped a King play deep in his zone and started up ice. Seeing some room on the left wing, he darted forward. “The defenceman was a little slow getting there, so I kept going and then took it to the net.”

Marcus Basara joined Lyles at the crease and popped in his fourth of the playoffs.

Lyles gave the Vipers a 3-1 lead at 4:50 of the second period. Accepting a pass from Darren Nowick at centre ice, Lyles again cut left and continued until the left faceoff dot. He stopped quickly and shot against the grain. Michael Garteig got a piece of the high shot with his left arm, but the puck found the net.

At that point, Coach Kent Lewis had seen enough and he replaced Garteig with rookie Sean Maguire. The strategy worked, as the Kings allowed few chances for the rest of the period while creating several of their own.

They cut into the lead with a Chris Williams short handed goal at 13:15, when the Viper power play unit fell asleep. For the rest of the period, they peppered Kirby Halcrow, outshooting the Vipers 17-6 in the period.

However, the Kings were unable to score until 5:50 of the third period, when a power play strike made the score 3-3. Chad Niddery was the trigger man at the conclusion of a series of slick passes.

John Knisley potted the Viper winner at 13:24. He squeezed by an attempted tackle along the right boards in the King zone and got to the puck lying in the corner. Seeing no other play, he threw it on net and the puck appeared to bounce in off Maguire’s left shoulder.

It was a tough way for the Kings to lose a game that they had dominated for stretches, especially in the first two periods. They constantly pressured the Vipers deep, to create turnovers. Also, they often ran interference when they had possession. It was an effective strategy because the referees declined to issue interference penalties.

As in Saturday’s 1-0 Viper win, the Kings created some late chances with their goalie replaced by an attacking player. However, Kirby Halcrow was again solid in net, and Kyle Murphy won the last three faceoffs to help preserve the win.

After the game, Malcolm Lyles attributed the Vipers' seven-game winning streak to snack selection. "After the two losses to Salmon Arm," he said, "we changed our dressing room food choices and it's helped a lot!"

Re: UML Recruiting, Building for the future

Malcolm Lyles and Vernon won the Fred Page Cup with a 5-4 OT win last night over Powell River, giving Vernon the sweep and their third straight Cup.

They will now go onto the Doyle Cup, playing the winner of the AJHL.

At least one BC player is still in the hunt for a national championship..
