UML Recruiting, Building for the future

Re: UML Recruiting, Building for the future

Good to see that the Cedar Rapids connection didn't die because Carlson didn't get the job.

Another article about him, seems McGrath's the pesky type.

His linemate Justin Kovacs (8th leading scorer in the USHL this past season) recently decommitted from Northeastern. According to USHR, Western Michigan and UNH were also interested in Kovacs.

Re: UML Recruiting, Building for the future

I think the  should be placed behind DOB...
You're not kidding. He's going to be 21 before he even starts school.

While he's one of the oldest current commits for next season, there's a kid that will be entering Bemidji State having been born in April of '90!

Merrimack has 6 players born in 90 coming in next year alone

SIX

I don't believe that's correct, unless you mean coming in this September. Next year's class for Merrimack shows the oldest incoming player as a 12/91 DOB.

This year, Merrimack does have seven incoming players actually that were '90 DOBs, including 6 that will be 21 before the season starts (Lowell will have 1).

That's ridiculous. I know it's their strategy to enable them to compete with the very good 18 year old freshmen that BC and BU continue to bring in but at some point it just becomes ridiculous. Merrimack is far past that point with this set of players coming in.

Yeah, as you saw from my original post about McGrath (and this is nothing against him in particular) but I really don't want the Lowell program to be bringing in guys that are over 21 even before they step on campus. At this point, I can almost excuse this one because the new coaching staff is playing catch up on 2012 recruiting, so it's a bit easier to understand. Then I saw hokydad's post and was shocked to see Merrimack's list full of them. Looking forward for MC though, they only have one kid (currently) from 2012 on that will be 21+ before stepping on campus.

Re: UML Recruiting, Building for the future

Hi all -
Wait, two Tech fans posting in the UML thread? I guess that is what happens when you snag one of our former players. Anyway, I have a game worn jersey of former UML stand-out Ben Walter (0.82 PPG) for sale so I figured I would offer it up here. The jersey is from Ben's 2005-06 or 2006-07 season with the Providence Bruins of the AHL. The jersey is $225 shipped (within the US). If you are interested feel free to PM or email me at info@johnsonsjerseys.net and of course, trades for Cam's (or other) college game worn jerseys are always considered!
:D

Re: UML Recruiting, Building for the future

I've heard that Jake Suter (yes, from the Suter family) who played for Sioux City in the USHL last year has committed to UML. He's a 9/22/90 DOB and will be joining the program this year I'd assume.

Another (older) defenseman.

Re: UML Recruiting, Building for the future

Colton Saucerman attended the Lincoln camp and played in an All Star game.
It looks like Saucerman may not be coming to Lowell after all.
I was surprised to see Colton Saucerman here. The defenseman who had been committed to UMass-Lowell instead decommitted from the school after realizing he wasn't going to mesh with the new coaching staff. Instead, Saucerman is slated to play for the USHL's Lincoln Stars.

I had heard rumors that there might be a player or two not coming into Lowell from Coach MacDonald's recruits, and thinking back on (and giving credit to) Hokydad's posts, he wasn't too high on him even when he originally committed way back when.

Re: UML Recruiting, Building for the future

A nice article in the Sun on 14 year old Jack Eichel from North Chelmsford who's one of the top young hockey prospects in country.

Re: UML Recruiting, Building for the future

Is this the part where I get to be catty and note that all the kids that were set to be 'stars' around the 'select' teams of Lil's age are off the radar? :p

1. 21 year olds don't decommit
2. If MC starts recruiting players under 20, wouldn't that bring them back to square one (being out-recruited by BC/BU/UNH/Maine)?
3. Didn't Sean Walsh do the same thing back in the 90s?

Re: UML Recruiting, Building for the future

I don't see any reason that recruiting players that are older is ridiculous if it works for the team. Saying it is ridiculous is kind of silly.
