UML Recruiting, 2017+

Re: UML Recruiting, 2017+

@JeffCoxSports: '99 LW Jackson Sterrett (Skipjacks 18U) commits to UMass Lowell. High hockey IQ, good speed/offensive skill set, typical Bazin recruit.

Thanks! It's raining recruits, hallelujah!

It will be interesting to see if any additional recruits are on visits this weekend and will be at the BC game Friday night. Per a post by Monty in the past, the atmosphere of last season's BC game at Tsongas is what sold Wall and his family on coming to Lowell. So we'll see.

Re: UML Recruiting, 2017+

With a large influx of commitments over the past couple of weeks, I figured I'd update my post.

Making some guesses here on when a couple of the kids are going to come in. I'm listing the next three seasons worth of rosters... and assuming everyone that's currently on the roster with eligibility will come back (and that's probably not going to happen). Currently if everyone comes in for '17 that's going to be turning 20 this year ... that leaves us at 32. I'm sure one of the 4 netminders will leave, I'm guessing there's a couple of other underclassmen that aren't seeing playing time that will also leave at some point. Natural attrition is normal.

17/18 roster
Defense (9):
Senior: Chris Forney, Tyler Mueller, Tommy Panico
Juniors: Avni Berisha, Niklas Folin

Heisenberg has McDonald as '18 (as do I) and Sterrett as '18 or '19 (I have him as of now for '19). I did ask Jeff Cox about this, and he mentioned '19 as well, unless he has a really good year next year in the USHL or the NAHL.

Re: UML Recruiting, 2017+

Fargo press release on McDonald

Also, noticed this tweet from Mark Divver, "Hearing Boston 2016 5th rounder Joona Koppanen still undecided on NCAA route or turning pro in Finland. ECAC/HE schools interested"

I'm interested to see where Koppanen ends up going. Mark reported last summer that Norm visited the Bruins rookie camp, as did coaches from PC, QU & NU. He said BC,BU and UNH were interested as well. Obviously a long shot for Lowell. I could see him turning pro as I think he's having a better than expected season in Finland.

Well, if BC is interested in him, they might have gotten a leg up, getting one of his countrymen to commit.
@russbites
BC continues w/ Finnish flav as Aapeli Rasanen '98 (SC) commits. Decent size, 2-way fwd, w/ hockey IQ, competes. EDM '16 6th rder, WJC.

Re: UML Recruiting, 2017+

Evaluations of Eriks Zohovs and Croix Evingson from the NAHL prospect tournament. They were graded as A prospects based on their play in the two game tournament.

Eriks Zohovs (F, 6’1”, 175lbs, Shreveport, 1997)-“Quick” was written next to his name in our notes six times in two games. He was quick to pucks. He was quick on the rush as he pushed defenders into bad gaps. The 1997 was quick into seams and can turn on a dime. He showed off a quick, hard shot and competed hard. College: UMass-Lowell

Croix Evingson (D, 6’5”, 210lbs, Shreveport, 1997)-Croix has improved his skating and is smooth and pivots well. He is a productive passer at 6’5” and dominated shifts here. He has a unique set of talents and lots of upside still as a 1997. College: UMass-Lowell

Great to hear the positive evaluation on Zohovs after having missed all that time with injury. These two sound like exciting players.
