UML 2013/2014 Season ... The Target is firmly on

Re: UML 2013/2014 Season ... The Target is firmly on

Flopped around like a fish. Should have had a major for poor acting. The penalty against Clarkson was legit but the looking like a fish on a hook was a bit much, complete with a stick slap.

The maddening part is that he was legit held for 5 seconds before he went down. If the ref calls that during any part of the hold, it's a Lowell PP.

I absolutely hate the Hockey East special. Either he was held (call the hold) or he embellished (call the embellishment). If, as an official, you're calling both, it means you ignored the holding call until the player dives, in which case you're not doing your job.

Re: UML 2013/2014 Season ... The Target is firmly on

Yeah, that was just such an annoying play. You've got the puck in the Clarkson zone, and you try and make a fancy move with the puck right on the blue line. Frustrating tie, and a disappointing result for Doug Carr who played a heck of a game.

Not a good night (again) all around for Hockey East. Lowell's tie against Clarkson, Vermont ties a pretty bad Dartmouth team at home by the same score (they did outshoot them by 10), Maine lost at the Q 2-1 ... UNH was the lone victor with a 6-3 win over UNO at home.

All HE teams (except Maine) are in action tomorrow, but only Notre Dame v BC (second game of Frozen Fenway) is a league game.

Lowell had its chances tonight, so it's hard for me to say they deserved better. They looked like they could have turned this one into clown shoes in the first, absolutely pinning Clarkson in their own end and generating chances. But they were flat in the second, and looked like they planned to sit on the lead and play for a 1-0 win. The Clarkson goal was an absolute snipe.

I'll say this, it took the refs till the third period to call Clarkson on their after the whistle BS. Exactly how many times did a Lowell player have to get shoved/cross checked/face washed before they blew the whistle? (answer: approx 12) That leg whip in OT was dangerous, and I'm glad the Lowell player wasn't hurt. Add in the Clarkson "Hail Mary" pass that lead to the late 5x3, and color me unimpressed with the Golden Knights.

Lowell needs to step on their throats tomorrow.

Well, I kind of like it. After years of seeing BC flop to the ice as the wind from the passing skater blew by, the potential they could be called for that is refreshing. There is no need for that stuff.

Have you ever seen an officials arm go up to signal a penalty but he doesn't blow his whistle? That's because the team the penalty is being called on does not have possession of the puck. It is known as a 'delayed penalty'.
Sometimes, the time between the initial penalty and the offending team gaining puck possession can be a long time. Other penalties can, and sometimes do, occur in the 'delayed penalty' time.

You are welcome for todays hockey lesson. :)

I totally agree, but if they're going to call embellishment, call just that. I think it's just a cop out for officials to send both players to the box. If you see a hook/hold/trip, call it. If you don't, and the defending player takes a dive anyway, call the embellishment. Just not both.

see FiveHole's post. If you don't flop around like a beached fish there isn't a problem. Blaming it on the officials not calling the first thing would be moot if no one is flopping. They are either going to call the original penalty or not. Flopping is obnoxious. I don't care which team you root for.

Agree. Plenty of chances to increase the lead in the first. Several open nets or big rebounds that the Hawks didn't get to or failed to capitalize on. It was a game that felt like they should be up by two or three goals instead of one. The penalties late in the second and early in third didn't help. The Hawks need to take care of business today.

Thanks for being an insufferable ******, but his arm didn't go up. Hence why I said he hadn't called anything.

Yeah, we had plenty of opportunities to win.

FiveHole12 isn't insufferable but reading all the whining on here about a tie against an inferior opponent (i dont care what their record is, they are inferior to UML) AT HOME that you should have taken care of makes some of you guys insufferable.....................just sayin. I'm looking forward to watching The Floppers tonight from Frozen Fenway

Correct. His arm went up after all the stuff had been going on, like he didn't want to call a penalty and then saw a chance to call both, so he blew the whistle.

And I don't mind the embellishment call (and it doesn't really appear anyone's arguing it anyway), and didn't mean to start an argument about it either. Just wanted to see if it was the right call, since my angle wasn't good.
Yeah, we had plenty of opportunities to win.
And that's why we didn't win. Not the refs, we didn't finish the chances we had. I turned to Gary a few times during the game and mentioned how the puck seemed to be sitting in the crease and we just couldn't get the one touch required to bury it.

Here's hoping for a better result tonight.

Re: UML 2013/2014 Season ... The Target is firmly on

I really hate the emotional subjective approach refs take to making calls. Either it happened or it didn't. Don't be such a tweaker about it, call it one way, and let the players adjust

Re: UML 2013/2014 Season ... The Target is firmly on

Great game tonight, I thought verging on playoff intensity. Clarkson is a very good team, big and tough, who makes teams pay when they make mistakes or let up. Our feisty little energizer bunny type players like Arnold, Pendenza and Mcgrath carried the load while our big boys like Folin and Holmstrom looked flat. I'll gladly take 2-0-1 in 3 against this team. Very respectable crowd considering the students weren't there. I'm surprised our 4th goal wasn't reviewed.

Re: UML 2013/2014 Season ... The Target is firmly on

The crowd was much bigger than I was expecting today!

I thought Clarkson outplayed us this afternoon and we stole this one. I especially hated the tying goal we gave up after going up 3-2, it seemed like Lowell didn't show much urgency in getting after the puck and getting out of their own zone when that play happened. I will say its encouraging that even though they got out shot nearly 2-1, they converted on their chances and pulled it off. I feel like this is a game they would have lost at the beginning of the season.

Also, I totally agree that going 2-0-1 against that team is a good showing. I hope Clarkson continues to have success throughout the rest of the season. We finished our NC schedule 10-3-1. Not bad!

Re: UML 2013/2014 Season ... The Target is firmly on

A win is a win. The 4th goal was legit. I wasn't surprised it didn't get a review. He was on the puck the whole time. Great pressure at times.

Oh and WCRAP was great! (tuned in by Top donut and heard a lovely signal  too bad we were practically on top of the arena and had to get out of the car to go to the game :p )
