UML 2013/2014 Season ... The Target is firmly on

Thanks for clearing that up, I thought it hit the post. For it not to be icing it would have to hit square and not cross line?

Correct. I'm not positive but I believe this rule was changed when the size and shape of the creases were changed at various rinks due to the pro game going to the weirdly shaped crease.

Re: UML 2013/2014 Season ... The Target is firmly on

It hit the side of the post but a few years ago the rule that the puck going through the crease nullified an icing was eliminated. It should have been an icing per the rules.

It did not hit the side of the post, it hit the apron on the side of the net, just a bit past the post. It was directly in front of me. It clearly should have been icing.

Side of the post/apron on side of net -- same difference. I said it should be icing, didn't I?

Looking at the replay the linesman who waved off the icing was on the opposite side of the net right at the top of circle. The Ref was in the same position on the side that the puck hit. Both officials were in a good position to see the puck.

Not surprising a HE linesman screwed up a call

Could a Ref make that call?

Legally, not sure. From personal observation, I've only seen a ref make a lines call once ever.

Re: UML 2013/2014 Season ... The Target is firmly on

Well, disappointing to hear that the refs screwed up.

Just like in the Lowell/Union NCAA Regional when they screwed up the offside call, just frustrating. Obviously we have no idea if Lowell would have scored the tying goal, but to have that opportunity denied by a blatant miss ... it's annoying. And the worst part about both those misses ... they were so GD obvious. Even watching at home, I was wondering why they didn't call icing ... and the only thing I could think of is that it went right through the crease, because the camera angle didn't seem to catch that (unless I missed it).

Actually, it's a big difference. If it hit the post, even the side of the post, then waving the icing is the correct call. If it hit the apron, then that means it crossed the goal line first, and thus should be icing.

...and then they refused to even go over to Norm to explain the non call.

So we're at the break.

Surprises? Disappointments so far?

Biggest surprise to me has to be Adam Chapie. I also like what I've seen from Gambardella, as a frosh. Disappointment? Wilson I guess, mostly because I'd like to see him put the puck in the net more than he has (only 2 goals in 14 games).

Blatant disregard toward the coach. If they had gotten together the play may have been called correctly. On second thought, you don't see that much in college hockey except for review of goals. I seem to recall another controversial mistake by Bunyon a few games a go, I can't remember the teams involved.

Maybe this will be great, and maybe not.

Boston to host Frozen Four in 2015.

2015 Regionals: Providence, Manchester, Fargo and South Bend (ha, three Hockey East related spots).
2016: Worcester, Albany, St. Paul and Cincinnati.

I'd like another shot at Tampa, lets see if Bazin can keep it rolling

Taking a complete right turn here: has anyone heard or have any knowledge if Lowell will be renting a bar before the frozen fenway game? I would assume they would, but was curious to know.

According to their facebook page: UMass Lowell will be hosting its Frozen Fenway Pre-Game Party at the world-famous Cask 'n Flagon on Brookline Avenue!

Went there last year for the first time in a while, they've really cleaned it up. Used to go there all the time while I was in college (never mind that I was under-age) and it was dumpy, but the location made it worthwhile.

100% agree with this post. Totally cleaned up, and just as important... its spacious.
Really looking forward to it!
