UML 2013/2014 Season, II ... May I have another?

Re: UML 2013/2014 Season, II ... May I have another?

BTW, good for Buco ... he's got a 6-9-15 in 9 games at UMass Boston.

Re: UML 2013/2014 Season, II ... May I have another?

It doesn't make sense to look at games where they played the same opponents when comparing stats? Hmmm, I guess we have different ideas of what makes sense...

yeah, i just think you have to include all the games. If your two vs BU was in November vs my two vs them was this past weekend, not the same team. Stuff like that. That being said, Carr was phenomenal Saturday night. Demko couldnt see the first goal, was screened and had no chance on the second, he was pretty good too.

Re: UML 2013/2014 Season, II ... May I have another?

Or you can look at the entire season, not just the conference games, since the stats from the other games do count as well:

Demko 13-1-3 1.74/.937
Hellebuyck 12-6-2 1.90/.938
Carr 8-2-2 1.80/.936

Seems like Demko is "right there" with them.

Then again, I wouldn't expect you to find any stat that looks good for Lowell.

Demko is very very good but overrated. His stats are nice and all but he has the best defense in Hockey East. McCoshen, Santini, Matheson etc. He also is under little pressure to perform because if he gave up 4 goals a game BC would still be winning most of those games thanks to a juggernaut offense.

Let's compare here:

Demko has only had to make 444 saves this season in 17 appearances. That's 26 shots a game.
Hellebuyck has had to make 579 saves in 20 games, that's 30 shots a game.
Witt has had to make 917 saves in 27 games, that's 34 shots a game.

Demko doesn't face that many shots a night and with a defense like that in front of him, they are probably pretty low quality chances most of the time.

So to simply look at the stats and conclude he is "well past them" is kind of unfounded.

He's also nearly 7 years younger than Carr

edit: (he being Demko)

Wins are indeed all that matter but they don't determine the best player if someone decides to start a discussion on it.

Fair enough but to someone's point here (forgot who wrote it). There are way too many variables in play here..what does the D look like, do they block shots for goalie A but not as many for B, etc...

Re: UML 2013/2014 Season, II ... May I have another?

You folks argue about the 3 goalies all want. I'd take either one on my team. ;)

That being said... let's jump right to the WOW factor. How many breakaways have your boys stopped? I've seen at least 3 by Demko, just since January, with one of them being a TWO on ZERO. It's not often a goaltender can bring an arena to it's feet BEFORE the pay ends. He's like a defensive Johnny.

Witt stops one a night with the porous defense in front of him (including at the end of the first period on Kevin Hayes in the Beanpot). If he only had to deal with 3 breakaways since the beginning of January I'd say this defense had improved overwhelmingly. I don't see much of Lowell playing so one of their fans would have to attest for Hellebuyck.

I don't recall Hellebuyck playing poorly in either NU-Lowell game.

What are you doing trying to talk sense? Silly, silly you! :) I think this makes perfect sense. The BC guy might be great but it is hard to say how good he would be with a porous D in front of him on a regular basis. Seeing we can't just transplant him somewhere with a poor d-fence we will never know.

Personally I find this kind of question moot. Too subjective. Any goalie can be amazing or horrible on a given night playing against a team that is having an amazing or horrible night. The variables are endless.

Re: UML 2013/2014 Season, II ... May I have another?

I thought my question was pretty simple. How many breakaways have your boys stopped?
I mentioned 3 for Demko since January.
SkinsFan says one per game for Whitt.
All you have to say is one per game, plus one, for your boyz, and you win! :D

See, it's simple! :)

If you can't include the games that were against common teams due to variables throughout the season then why would you include all games? How is playing the toughest schedule compare better then playing a weak schedule? Sorry but that makes even less sense to me...

By your argument no stats would ever be applicable and comparing teams and players would be a moot point... making this board a complete waste of my time :(

Re: UML 2013/2014 Season, II ... May I have another?

wait an nu fan is claiming demko is overrated? this thread has it all now. there is nothing overrated about demko. great numbers, has the ability to make game changing saves, top nhl prospect...

Conner stopped at least 2 BC breakaways Friday. One with an incredible poke check well out of his crease laying out. Based only on that I would say Conner is better :D.

Re: UML 2013/2014 Season, II ... May I have another?

and cool as a cucumber. he has the total package. sure, any goalie benefits from a better team in front of them but overrated is not the word.

Re: UML 2013/2014 Season, II ... May I have another?

Demko is very very good but overrated.

Guy, You have no idea what you're talking about. Watch the kid play a few games. The kid's phenomenal. Every big as good as Schneider as a freshman if not better. He's stuffed a boatload of quality chances in the games I've seen (which is definitely more than you've seen). His 2-on-0 save and the save seconds later that was going top shelf a few games back has been talked about for weeks. His draft stock has IMPROVED since coming to BC. So he was probably underrated a few months ago. And that was a pretty high rating.
