UML 2013/2014 Season, II ... May I have another?

Re: UML 2013/2014 Season, II ... May I have another?

Well, ND is going to have troubles in that they'll have to go through us... perspective here.

That may turn out to be true but it doesn’t feel that way. The roots of my concern lie in the offensive scoring which is more concentrated than the last couple of years. Pendenza, Chapie, White, and the defensive contributors have been fine. Arnold, Wilson, McGrath (albeit to a lesser extent), and Holmstrom have been disappointing. Campbell has shown signs of life of late, Maniccia’s OK; Wallin is a bigger disappointment this year than even last. Gambardella has been the poster boy for Riverhawks play. I’ve watched the kid have jump from the get go; hustles on every play, gets to a feces load of pucks but lacks that finishing touch.

Here’s hoping a couple more of them find their games during this brief respite and to them collectively making a serious run to defend their HE crown and another trip to the FF.

I'm just one of those who doesn't really want to go through the "we can'ts". I have concerns about this team. They don't strike fear into people like last year. They aren't insanely opportunistic like the previous team. Everything feels just OK... and that's what's unsettling.

Its just some tend to have the tradition of the "we can't _____"... i deal with that enough on a personal level. Why not us?

I completely agree with that statement about us being okay and it being a little unsettling. But I've looked at the two teams mentioned ... Nd has been a 500 team until the last two weeks. And uvminly scares me if Hoffman played like he did this weekend even though we left a lot of pucks for rebounds !
I hate to say it because it rarely happens with this team ... But the power play needs to be better ! Along with the pk . The passing lanes need to be patrolled a little better and our passing on power play needs to get better for us to get better chances

i also get a little worried because it seems like every good team on planet earth manages to hang an 8 spot on somebody. We've had a couple of 6-1 games... but I can't think of many jaw droppers other than the BU game two years ago (which, thank god, I was there for). The veritable "game was over after the puck dropped" types.

I don't know if its everybody is that good these days or "there isn't a killer instinct". The 11-12 team had a size issue... last year there wasn't an issue other than being beaten at their own game in Pittsburgh... this group.... I don't know if you want to call it mojo or whatnot, they're good but they aren't scary.

Obviously the above is just spouting things... i didn't watch the vermont series that closely. We just seem to be getting by... that's what worries me.

edit: An 8-2 drubbing of UMass last year

I don't remember the last time they really set up a good looking PP. Their passing not only during PP's but sometimes just trying to start the puck moving up ice gets really sloppy and it makes me nervous as hell.
We're only going to be playing better teams from this point on out so if you keep tossing the puck around like that it's going to catch up and someone is going to capitalize sooner or later. I don't know if the injuries have mixed everyone's rhythm up a bit and they're still not getting back on track but it really needs to get fixed quickly.

I still think Hellebuyck likes this part of the season most though so I wouldn't be surprised to see him become that shut down guy again. Not that he's not having a great year as it is of course.

Good Lord. I moderate a board that's not quite as busy as this one, but more than half the threads are spam. This is awful.

In regards to hockey, my hope is that with another week of getting healthy, we finally start seeing the team we are hoping to see going into the playoffs.

I thought that BU game was gonna be terrible because BU scored 12 seconds in. Then they kind of fell asleep.

I honestly feel like we are that team that is good but nobody is thinking "Crap we got to face Lowell". We may have gotten second in Hockey East but I feel like we have been overshadowed this year by BC's dominance, BU's failures, the roller coaster of ND's year, and Northeastern's turnaround this year. We've just been there really and that is what worries me. If I had to be honest about the NCAA tournament, I feel like we pick up a win but lose to the top seed in our bracket.

There have been a lot of story lines in HE this year. Over the year we have been the quiet team... That can be a good and bad thing! Teams just don't know what to expect or they just aren't scared of us.
To quote a favorite movie of mine, it's time for this team to "nut up or shut up" ! Make the teams fear us!
I have this weird feeling we are going to play union and I wanna beat the bag out of this

Re: UML 2013/2014 Season, II ... May I have another?

I know with Sifferlen in it we've talked about Super 8 in UML recruiting thread, but for those hockey fans in Lowell area…Wednesday (tonight), Thursday and next Monday and Wednesday there are great high school hockey games at Tsongas Center. Next Monday are the D1 and D2 North Finals, but the rest of the nights are Super 8 action. Sifferlen plays tonight against Catholic Memorial.

The D2 North Final features Tewksbury vs. Beverly and D1 North Semifinals are tonight so the D1 North Final will be Wilmington/Arlington winner vs. St. Mary's (Lynn)/Reading winner.

Full Super 8 Schedule/Results

Off topic ... UML baseball has gotten off to a 5-2 start. They swept the AE Player/Pitcher/Rookie of the Week awards as well. They played NCAA Tournament participant VA Tech last weekend, losing one game in the 11th and winning another in the 9th. Not bad at all.

I would love to see us beat Union. However I think we'd need some refs that actually can call an offsides call, unlike last time.

Lowell was most likely going to lose that game anyway, let's be honest.

Its the principle of it though. Even if we were going to lose, doesn't mean the refs should slack off and get a call that was obvious to everyone wrong.

No disagreement on that. We just don't want to sound like some of the other fan bases that blame refs for everything.

I always felt that our baseball team was a D-1 caliber program. We probably have the best/nicest baseball park in the northeast so that should be a nice selling point for future recruits.

Went to the Tsongas during my break today and picked up tickets for the Friday game. Front row seats behind the net. I am surprised how many seats are left

The QF games are usually not well attended. One reason being the students are gone for spring break. If ND ends up being the opponent the crowd could be bigger than usual though.

Yeah, this, sadly, has always been the case. People haven't pre-planned for it, especially since its uncertain. You know to keep the night clear, things like that.

There is still a ton of hockey to be played, so obviously Bracketology is just for fun, but how about this draw? Even though they wouldn't be playing close to home, I like the match ups.

Midwest Regional (Cincinnati):
13 Cornell vs. 4 St. Cloud State
12 Michigan vs. 8 Massachusetts-Lowell
