Also, I noticed that Wong is rostered as a Forward (how we saw her in 2009-2010) compared to her current role as a D with the 'Dogs.

Anxiously awaiting the US Roster. I noticed that for TC, Players rostered for the National Team for the Olympics were not eligible for this roster. I wonder if the same is true for Team USA?

Update: apparently Wong is going to be D. Appears as if the Roster wasn't updated from the summer when they posted the press release. Or something....

I noticed that for TC, Players rostered for the National Team for the Olympics were not eligible for this roster. I wonder if the same is true for Team USA?

There are several players from the Olympic Team listed on Canada's U-22's, most notably, Marie Philip Poulin.

Players who were on the gold medal-winning 2010 Olympic Winter Games roster (Rebecca Johnston and Marie-Philip Poulin), or who were centralized with the National Women’s Team during the 2009-10 season (Brianne Jenner and Jennifer Wakefield), were not eligible for 2011 MLP Cup roster selection. Hockey Canada scouts will continue to evaluate these four players with their respective club teams leading up to the 2011 IIHF World Women’s Championship next April in Zurich and Winterthur, Switerzland.

Okay. Wacky stuff going on over at that TC website. DC saw Olympians rostered... I don't. I'm certain I saw J.Wong listed as a forward and now she's listed as a defenceman. Okay... gonna back away from the computer for a while.

I wonder if that "rule" was put in by Hockey Canada to ensure Cornell would be able to put a team on their ice for their games. Usually, they don't seem to care much about the impact on US college teams, but Cornell has a little more of an "in" with Hockey Canada. Are Irwin and Larocque now too old for U22, because they aren't mentioned?

According to the UMD Roster, Irwin was 22 in June and Laroque was 22 in May. So that would take them off the consideration list, if it's UNDER 22 and not 22 & Under.

I have a hard time believing a national program is going to alter rules based on one school. There's no question Cornell pulls the Canucks in, I won't argue that. You could make a similar argument for Wisconsin, or even UMD depending on the year/ ages of the players. And with the growth of the sport and more top notch Canadians coming to play in the States, there's no way they could accomadate or favor collegiate teams. I wonder if it's a bigger picture idea in providing more opportunities of more girls to develop. After all, this is a developent team that ultimately is a stepping stone to trying out for THE National Team.

Looking at the Cornell Schedule, it appears that the players (6 in total??) will miss the series against Yale (Jan 7) and Brown (Jan 8) as MLP touney in Switzerland concludes on the 8th of Jan. I would think it would be more likely that Cornell would consider their schedule and potential national team player losses when scheduling their season rather than a national program giving one school consdieration.

As they say in "Pirates of the Caribbean", I think these are more "guidelines" than rules. Last year, Canada had 25-year-olds playing in this event, using the logic that the team was shorthanded due to top players being on the Olympic roster. So they can form the rules how they wish from year to year. Former Cornell coach Mel Davidson may be a little more sympathetic to the Big Red's plight. I confess that I don't know what her role is with Hockey Canada now that the Olympics are done, but if nothing else, she must have connections. I'd guess that Coach Miller still has some contacts with Hockey Canada as well, at least to a greater extent than programs like Minnesota do.

As an Ivy, I'm not sure how much flexibility they have in their schedule. Once you start several weeks later, some of the possible bye weeks are gone. It looks like UMD got an extra open weekend by reducing their non-conference schedule to 2 games, so I suppose Cornell could do that, but they only schedule 7 interconference games and 29 total as it is.

Last I heard, when she informed the coach of MB she was moving to UMD next year, the coach kicked her off the team. So this could be the reason why she is off.

Yaforsure- I can't imagine any connection between what you are suggesting-- at least when it comes to her potential (though not officially announced) affiliation with UMD.

After backtracking, I think the Hockey Canada site just wasn't updated when I first read the press release. The roster seemed to be the last installment (probably summer) of the U22 team. It took them a while to link up 2011 MLP Cup info after the press release, also, as it initially went to a 2007 schedule.

Lesson: Give the fine folks at HC time before I go all bat-**** crazy on their website.

I would actually like to know that as well. I was at the game yesterday in St. Cloud and I was pretty shocked at what I saw. I may be a SCSU fan, but I realize that this years squad just isn't that good of a team at this point.

For those of you that watch UMD much more than I do, was this game a case of UMD being off the bulk of the game? Where they maybe thinking past the then completely pointless Huskies(the Huskies hadn't even gotten a TIE in a league game until Friday nights shoot out win)? Or did the Huskies(which sadly I've only made it to 3 games this year) actually put things together for once this year?

My guess would be that they got up big time to play UW last weekend, and weren't able to match that intensity yesterday. Credit the Huskies for taking advantage.

After racking up three points (one goal, two assists) in Saturday's game at St. Cloud, Jocelyne Larocque is just one point away from tying Krista McArthur for the all-time career points record for defensemen at UMD. More than likely she's going to set the new record during next weekend's series against North Dakota. Just something to keep your eyes on if you're at the game or watching it online.

I just have to vent . . . all of the hoopla about "the last College hockey game at the DECC" - of course in reference to the MEN's team. As if one of the greatest Women's games ever played never happened . . . as if only the men ever played at the DECC. It's soooooo frustrating . . . . As if the women don't have games this weekend!!!!

Gets under my skin, too. But even though they've won two of their five national championships at the DECC, the women don't have the long history in that building that the men do and probably aren't as attached to it. I'm sure they'll say or do something after Saturday's game, but I think they're saving the hoopla for their debut at Amsoil in January. Should be fun!

And they'd BETTER make a big deal out of it if and when Joss sets the new all-time scoring record.
