UMD 2010-11 Season

Re: UMD 2010-11 Season

Wow-- look at Goldy a whole 11 points behind.

Refreshing to see Bucky up there. It will be good to have that team back, intact.

How may days left????

Nice to be picked No. 1 by the conference coaches, but then again it's just a poll. At the end of the season nobody will remember if the pre-season predictions were right or wrong. Should be a fun season.

Actually.. I'll remember a lot of last season's preseason predictions, considering there were people who said "This team won't win 5 games."

You've got a better memory than me. I don't remember anyone saying that about UMD. Was that people in Duluth?

Going into last season I don't think I would have said that about ANY team in the league, much less one of the favorites. If there were people who predicted that UMD would not win 5 games, they obviously don't pay much attention, or were just trolling to get a reaction.

If you check the WCHA thread this year and go back a ways, I believe you'll find that I picked UMD as the pre-season favorite. Then again, I also picked the Vikings to go all the way this year and win the Super Bowl. ;)

Re: UMD 2010-11 Season

Some people said it upon observation of the first few weeks of the season.. the Robert Morris loss, and the 3-3 start to the season. Remember that Shannon Miller even quoted herself at the end of season party of being not highly optimistic early on.. cant' remember what number she used in her number of games the team will win quote.

The two weeks on the road (Boston College and Wisconsin) I think brought the team together, and of course the Freshmen, and especially the third line with Dodege, Ambroz and Thibault/Cournoyer picked up their play after the Christmas break. Harss also had the most technique improvement mid-season of any of the European goaltenders we've had here.

It was definitely a surprising season which made the victory that much sweeter. I really respect the attitude of Miller and Friddy in recent interviews which is about this year, the season that sits in front of them. Not to minimize ANY of the accomplishments from last year but the only place to move is forward!!

If anything, the hard work of an underdog team has created great momentum for the season to come!

Bring it, 'Dogs!

Re: UMD 2010-11 Season

The Bulldogs have their national championship from last season, Winberg and Holmlov's team won the Swedish national championship on the same day and of course there's the Olympic medalists returning. So they're all champions. But it's a new season (in a new arena for some of it) and it promises to be a great season. We'll see what Mark Johnson can do in Wisconsin to turn things around, but you know they'll be back to their old form. And that other team that has the audacity to wear maroon and gold.

Last year, I said more than a few times early on that I would be happy with a .500 season and I was serious. I thought that would've been a good record from a huge freshman class, a very short bench and a new goalie. I've never been happier to be wrong.

It's now technically Thursday...that makes it eight days to go. :D

Re: UMD 2010-11 Season

I have to agree with you Skatefast!! I will be watching and supporting the Bulldogs this year as well, just from a different angle!! But to be apart of last years "underdog team" was nothing short of absolutely amazing!!!

Lets keep the tradition going ladies........

"If anything, the hard work of an underdog team has created great momentum for the season to come!"

ONCE A BULLDOG ALWAYS A BULLDOG!!!!!

Re: UMD 2010-11 Season

Grim,

If you are who I think you are, your presence at The DECC will be sorely missed. As will the contributions of last year's amazing senior class who's leadership was a key element in the success of last year's season. I hope you can catch a few games and let us catch a glimpse of the legend. Maybe you can make your mark on the new arena mid-season.

I'm looking forward to catching up with a few players tonight and though I'm sure they won't need it, I plan on getting them fired up for the fan's sake!

ONE MORE WEEK UNTIL GO TIME!

Re: UMD 2010-11 Season

I also noticed that pictures of the new players are now on the web page.

Of course I agree . . . last year was special. One of those so unexpected things that I think we all savored every moment as if we couldn't believe what we were seeing. One memory that stands out before I fully move on to this season . . . the NCAA 1/4 final against UNH at the DECC. There were some UNH fans sitting next to us and I don't recall exactly but one of them said something about UMD's experience. I looked at the ice, then couldn't help but say back to them . . . "Just so you know, all but one of the players on the ice right now is a freshman." (Kirsti Haakala was playing D at the time.) The guy looked at me and could only say, "really?"

It's going to be fun and interesting to see how the team fits together this season - and to see if we as fans can figure out how Maria's being a coach might be helping some of the players. She's still one of the best offensive players the Dogs have ever had . . . and to see how that translates in her coaching. I'm thinking of when Caroline was here and how (Friddy I think) started getting all of these tip-ins . . . then someone told me that it's one of the things Caroline really worked with the Fs on . . .

I like the count down!!!

GO DOGS!!!

But she still needed help looking the part for the team photo. I guess I'll give her a break on that. (Seven days and one hour for those of you keeping track at home.)

And I heard from the ticket office today that season tickets will go out in the mail tomorrow. We'll also be getting info around mid-October about choosing our seats at Amsoil Arena.

Re: UMD 2010-11 Season

For the imformation of any of you old time UMD fans...I see Amanda Tapp has surfaced as another "New Recruit" for the CIS's Calgary Dino's almost 11 years to the day that she started as a freshman goalie in the 99-00 season for the Bulldogs (17 GP, 16-0-1, .928 SV %, 1.33 GAA)...ahh, for the love of the game.;)

And I don't know if it's already been mentioned here, but Juliane Jubinville was hired this summer to do her strength and conditioning magic at the North American Hockey Academy in Vermont. She'll be missed.

On a good note, apparently Opie Taylor's all grown up and working in women's hockey.

Re: UMD 2010-11 Season

5 4- thanks for the tidbit! More of the same as you come across it. I have all I can do to focus on the season and the conference. This year my goal is to learn more about the Eastern conferences as well as their players. Cornell's amazing performance (not to mention fans) really made me realize this.

Schome- funny pics of Maria. I was talking to her in August at the dragon boat festival and she mentioned that she's excited and ready to be on the other side of the bench, if you will. I hear you Binny- hope her skills can translate into the the coaching/teaching/guiding realm.

Schmoe- OFFICIAL COUNTDOWN, please???

I have a feeling you mean Vasichek and not Jubinville....
