Yup. I'm almost more interested in the portal opening on Monday than the frozen four, lol.Anyone else really curious what we're going to start seeing when the portal opens?
Hopefully we won't see a mass exodus.Anyone else really curious what we're going to start seeing when the portal opens?
Unfortunately, it looks like they're losing several starters to the portal. While the transfer portal is being used by a lot of the MBB roster once again, Lowell has picked up the two highest ever commits in the history of AE apparently. Should be an interesting season for basketball if they stay healthy ... but of course, they'll be gone after one year.

Ah, do you think he’ll stick around? It’s a strange path he’s taking. But then we’re living in strange times. I haven’t forgiven him for that hit on Mikey DeAngelo. Yes he got tossed and suspended one more, but Mikey missed more than that recovering.
We won’t know until Wednesday but it’s looking like The Flagship will host either the Riverhawks or Merrimack next weekend. Bring the cool Riverhawk uniforms, not those hideous Lowell ones if it’s you. Good luck.
Not really Lowell-related, but I'll mention it since he came up in this thread earlier this season: Justin Gill is returning for his sophomore (and final) year per Mike McMahon. https://x.com/MikeMcMahonCHN/status/2042656485763645779?s=20I agree that he's probably gone at the end of the season, but if he (and the rest of the MC top guys) stick around, that team could be something to watch in the next year or two. But I also agree that his discipline (or lack thereof) is noticeable. He leads them in penalty minutes and it looks like he's had one game where he took a holding then a boarding, another with an elbowing and a tripping, and yet another with a roughing, then later an embellishment AND another separate unsportsmanlike conduct penalty (abuse of officials maybe?) on the same play. Even in the game against UMass when he didn't get ejected, he had a hitting from behind penalty. The guy can obviously play, though, I believe he has the longest goal streak in the NCAA this year (7 games)
Interesting. With the CHL eligible now the talent pool is as big as its ever been. Age restrictions might not hurt Lowell as much as they would in the past.Something worth noting that does affect Lowell: the NCAA is reviewing changes to eligibility soon: https://sports.yahoo.com/college-fo...luding-age-limits-121509806.html?guccounter=1

If I'm reading it right, and this part would completely change Lowell's recruiting plans: While the new policy would grant athletes a fifth season of eligibility, the proposal sets a starting date of the five-year clock: age 19 or high school graduation. If those age restrictions were in place for this past season, the following players would have been ineligible:
Jay Ahearn
Dillan Bentley
Jack Collins
Samuel Richard
T.J. Schweighardt
That would have hurt a lot.

I would welcome a new recruiting philosophyIf I'm reading it right, and this part would completely change Lowell's recruiting plans: While the new policy would grant athletes a fifth season of eligibility, the proposal sets a starting date of the five-year clock: age 19 or high school graduation.
More than half of our recruiting classes seem to be 21 when they enter. This would utterly throw our current recruiting philosophy out the window.
Given the current Junior feeder system, it would be interesting to see if the NCAA makes an exception (as they do for allowing NHL-draftees) to the proposed age rule for hockey as that it seems that most play in Juniors until around age 20.If I'm reading it right, and this part would completely change Lowell's recruiting plans: While the new policy would grant athletes a fifth season of eligibility, the proposal sets a starting date of the five-year clock: age 19 or high school graduation.
