UMass Lowell 2024-2025 Season: Expectations are.....Expectations

I'm still trying to get over that second half crash and burn.
I still don't see it as crash and burn. I think it was the same team the whole time.

I dunno. I admit I only see pieces from afar and prioritize my own local social life over watching every minute. But I think this is what they were.

I tend to agree. The more talented teams that started off slow like Umass got better as the season progressed. Lowell peaked 1st half.

Part of the reason I think is that teams with younger players need to adapt to NCAA play
They have more room to improve there games-Cole Hutson of BU is perfect example- He was not good defensively in first half
but made big improvement in 2nd half-UMass had similar players

where on earth are they getting their money?
Their fundraising campaign has reached $64.5 million in the last six months, and the wording on the website implies that a decent portion of the money is going towards athletics.

Together We WIN
Together, we will strengthen the Warrior community, enhancing and expanding our athletics facilities, growing The Warrior Fund, and fielding top student-athletes and coaches from across the nation.

Warriors — this is our time. As a new Division I institution, our athletics program has been propelled to new heights, allowing us to compete against top-ranked opponents before national audiences and enhancing the College’s profile and brand. Our continued pursuit of excellence requires the unwavering support and collective pride of the Warrior community.

Together, we will dare to be great, recruiting top athletes and coaches from across the nation and world. In order to compete at the highest level, we will build state-of-the-art facilities that allow for a dynamic fan experience — and train our athletes to perform at their peak. With the right investments, Merrimack athletics is poised to not only excel on a national stage, but also contribute to the College’s bold research aspirations by becoming a hub for human performance research.

The feeling of excitement goes beyond the core of the athletics program. Merrimack has attained success faster than many people anticipated, and we have no intention of slowing down.

Going back to MBB, knowing that the roster was bare at this point, Lowell has been busy. They've picked up a commitment from PG Darrel Yepdo, St. Michael's (Northeast 10). He averaged 14.9 PPG last year, will be a Senior.

They made offers to three JUCO kids.
  1. PG Asjon Anderson (would be a Senior)
  2. SF Anthony Isaac (would be a Junior)
  3. PF Jaylin Payne (would be a Junior)

How about some real D1 players

From the 2025-26 schedules thread. Are the Hawks heading back to Lake Placid next season?

Clarkson is @ Canisius to start the year, the B1G series is @ Penn State x2, Lake State/Michigan Tech at Cheel, North Dakota x2 at Cheel, the Adirondack Invitational is UML (they aren’t going to Cheel) and Alaska (I believe the Nanooks) along with Clarkson and SLU.

Attendance was abysmal. That’s more of a reflection on Clarkson and SLU fans given their proximity to Lake Placid but swapping out Providence for Alaska certainly won’t help either.

Not sure how I feel about Scout being the first one in the portal. Not something I expected and feeling very uneasy about what's to come with other top players with 2 or 3 YOE remaining.

are they splitting up or are they looking for a place to take both? wonder if they'd be looking to move down if they want to stick together... aha? d3?

A team to keep an eye on for Scout is Penn State. PSU Assistant coach Juliano Pagliero recruited the Truman brothers to Lowell when he was an assistant with us. Supposedly the brothers loved him and were disappointed when he left the program. The question is, assuming Scout and Roc are a package deal, does Penn State use a roster spot/ scholarship on Roc? How many programs opted into House can afford that?

I was afraid we'd lose Scout last offseason, so I'm not surprised he left after this disappointing season.

I first assumed they were going as a package deal but that'll likely depend on whether the teams Scout has his eye on are opting into House. I don't think any of those schools would be willing to waste a roster spot on Roc unless they're really in love with Scout. Only one I can see moving down is Roc. Less than 0% chance Scout leaves D1 just to be on a team with his brother. That being said, nothing surprises me anymore.

The best of luck to the brothers in the future. I wonder if they'll be leaving with a UML degree.

UMass Lowell has received a commitment from Niagara University transfer Jay Ahearn. The left-shot forward had 19 goals and 20 assists in 36 games for the Purple Eagles last year and has 1 YOE remaining. Mike McMahon currently has Ahearn rated as the fifth-best forward in the portal.
