UMass Lowell 2018: Champions of the Offseason

Re: UMass Lowell 2018: Champions of the Offseason

My tickets are in 105.

Of course, a trip to Waltham also means a post-game meal (and drink or two) at Bison County. If you've never been, I highly recommend it. Monty - the beer menu should satisfy you too.
Love Bison County!

Also, undefeated Lowell Men's Soccer plays Stanford on the west coast tonight. Stanford has won the last three NCAA Championships, so a pretty **** good test for the River Hawks tonight.

Did get the chance to watch the game. Considering the talent on the Stanford squad, 1-0 loss wasn't bad at all (and Lowell did have some chances). They tied 1-1 at Cal yesterday as well. Start up America East play this weekend. Lowell so far at 5-1-2 (W-L-T), while UNH (5-1-1) and UVM (5-2) will probably be the main competition this season.

Re: UMass Lowell 2018: Champions of the Offseason

Way off topic here, but... I have 4 tix available to Arlo Guthrie at Durgin Hall on Saturday, 10/13, 7:30 pm. I intended to get tix for the Plymouth show, but mistakenly ordered the Lowell show. Paid $77.25 each with fees... will sell for $50. each. Email me through USCHO if interested. Thanks.

Re: UMass Lowell 2018: Champions of the Offseason

Always play better when not having that upper ranking anyway. Here is hoping for a good season!

The numbers actually say the opposite.

Since Norm became coach:

When Lowell is unranked: 30-20-0 .600
When Lowell is ranked: 138-67-21 .657
When Lowell is ranked in the Top 10: 91-47-17 .642

Interesting.... do you have a breakdown of the teams they played against while in each category?
i.e. ranked vs unranked opp.. ranked vs ranked, ranked vs ranked in top 10... etc.

I wonder how many of those wins when ranked are versus cupcake teams early in the season.

It just seems like when they are ranked high they play not so great when they should.. could just be a perception though.

We never do well against cupcake teams. :p

Thanks Scott!

I wont ask for home/away numbers since you have already done a lot of work to get these. I wonder if it's just the bad loss at the wrong time which just sticks longer than the general winning status.

For the sake of completeness, I compiled them anyways (and found a correction from yesterday's post). One note - I considered any game not played at Tsongas as a "road" game. I did separate out the "neutral" site games, but they are also included in the "road" totals as well.

When Lowell is unranked:

All Games 30-20-0 .600
Home 16-7-0 .696
Road 14-13-0 .519 (includes 1-2-0 .333 at neutral sites)
Vs Unranked teams 25-11-0 .694
Home vs Unranked teams 13-3-0 .813
Road vs Unranked teams 12-8-0 .600 (includes 1-2-0 .333 at neutral sites)
Vs Ranked teams 5-9-0 .357
Home vs Ranked teams 3-4-0 .429
Road vs Ranked teams 2-5-0 .286
vs Top 10 teams 1-7-0 .125
Home vs Top 10 teams 0-4-0 .000
Road vs Top 10 teams 1-3-0 .250

When Lowell is ranked:

All Games 138-67-21 .657
Home 66-28-12 .679
Road 72-39-9 .638 (includes 24-8-1 .742 at neutral sites)
Vs Unranked teams 84-31-9 .714
Home vs Unranked teams 41-17-3 .697
Road vs Unranked teams 43-14-6 .730 (includes 8-1-1 .850 at neutral sites)

Home vs Top 10 teams 12-3-3 .750
Road vs Top 10 teams 14-15-1 .483 (includes 8-4-0 .667 at neutral sites)

When Lowell is ranked in the Top 10:

All Games 91-47-17 .642
