Re: UMass Lowell 2015-2016 Season Thread

Looking forward to Saturday afternoon and evening over at the Tsongas.

But could someone in Athletics please proof things before posting (misspellings, wrong form of "their", "Quck Start," etc.)? Arggggggggghhhhh...you'd think with all of the new DI hires, simple proofing and editing would be a given but gone downhill instead. Sort of embarrassing.

embarrassing...

TONIGHT: UMass Lowell and Merrimack College meet tonight for the 122nd time. For each, it is their first Hockey East conference game. It is also the earliest in the season the two teams have ever met. They have never played one another in the month of October. There earliest prior meeting was November 1, 2007. Merrimack won that game, 3-1. It is the first time since 2010 that they have faced off before the Holiday break.

LAST TIME OUT: The River Hawks competed a two-game weekened

I know. I'm fairly certain college graduates write these pieces although maybe unsupervised interns who need to take remedial college writing may.

Have seen the same sort of lazy errors the past few weeks. You'd think someone would check this stuff before hitting "post."

I'd comment on this, but I don't want people to think I'm being negative or that I have a need to be right. Apparently, that's not allowed on here.

I mean if you have something to add to the conversation do it. Passive aggressive doesn't really work on the internet (you just confirm what they're saying)

There's a sweet spot between the extremes, Scott.

Note it, pay attention to it, grow from it, and (at least from my perspective) you're good.

----

I was observing how we are as people towards each other. Certainly a characteristic of growing up in Mass from bluer collar backgrounds. Rough around the edges, unknowingly (obliviously) aggressive, and trying to assert their own (self) importance in their niche... maybe not primacy but certainly ranking. Frankly, I think that explains a lot of people in the group and in general a lot of people in New England. I'm as guilty as the rest.

----

Not trying to turn this into touchy-feely hour... just trying to corral this thing.

FYI for folks heading to Merrimack tonight. A friend of mine that takes classes there got an e-mail stating that all of the lots by Volpe will be closed starting this morning and afternoon for multiple on campus events happening this weekend (including the bigger lot past the arena on the right). Campus police will be directing people to park in lots near the main entrance so be prepared to walk.

+1

Looking forward to the game tonight although not the extra fun parking situation which is never that easy for me anyhow. Love how the weather chilled out some just in time to go to one of the colder arenas in the conference.

A bunch of parking was also eliminated when the new dorms on the west side of campus came online. But there is a parking lot out in that direction still. You probably need to get on campus by 6:45 to make it to your seat for the puck drop.

Uber from the bar is always an option..

Ugh, not very good.

I'm glad Lowell got a point that they had no business taking, but Lowell has to play 10x better tomorrow night.

They mentioned on the radio (which I could hear when driving thru Chelmsford but not when I got into Dracut ) that there were loads of people coming in after the game started, that the only people on time were the students.

Re: UMass Lowell 2015-2016 Season Thread

That was pretty brutal to watch. 11 shots on net through two periods and not a single shot recorded in the third. Three shots in OT. Many players invisible tonight like Campbell while Gambradella and McGrath were pretty much neutralized. Impressed with Master though, one of the few that appeared to be hustling. Boyle made several standout saves and looks like he may finally be having a breakout season.

So don't know if it was the smaller ice surface or what but no transition play and almost no real opportunities to set plays and/or cycle the puck, too much passing and trying to set up the perfect shot when they did get the chance. Grateful for the one point which they pretty much escaped with tonight. Hoping for much improvement tomorrow night and might see 2-3 rotate out and maybe have Louria, Colontone, and Francis back in.

On the positive side, Fuddruckers was tasty before the game.

Re: UMass Lowell 2015-2016 Season Thread

I forgot how much I dislike being in that arena. Got a nice reminder tonight.

That was a seriously fugly game. Puck seemed like it wouldn't lay flat for anyone, lot of back and forth. So very glad CJ buried that breakaway early or we'd have been screwed. As others have noted, must play much better tomorrow night.

That was a pretty impressive 65 minutes of hockey by Merrimack. They just smothered the Hawks much of the night.

Re: UMass Lowell 2015-2016 Season Thread

I feel like i expected the result, but the level of play was lacking. Happy we got out of Lawler with a tie. Last few years that's been a solid result
