Re: UMass Lowell 2015-2016 Season Thread

The win combined with UMass choking against Vermont means that Lowell can finish no lower than 11th in Hockey East now. However, if things essentially go as planned over the next 2 weekends, Lowell could be guaranteed a finish no lower than 5th place. Here's how many points they need (or other teams to lose) for that to happen:

UMass: 0
Merrimack: 2
Northeastern: 2
Maine: 3
UConn: 3
UNH: 5
Vermont: 5

To clinch a 1st round bye, the magic number is 11 points with BU.

Proved they can hang with the big dogs. Big, big win!

say what? You've been in the big boy club for a while now and the post above about finishing no worse than 11th? Come on guys! It's not a dream anymore Dorothy:)

Still stuck in the Red Sox old school mentality here. When you are grateful for every win and time they get to the next level it feels so much better than having expectations...:p

Well PC is the only team currently ranked in the Top 10 we've played this season and remember, Dorothy's gang didn't believe they had heart, brains and courage until they beat the witch. :D

Re: UMass Lowell 2015-2016 Season Thread

I have no idea what Lowell is doing with their PP breakout. It's like watching Arena football where they have Connor Wilson circling in the offensive end and then fly out of the zone to collect a drop pass in the neutral zone. I see how it can give Wilson options depending how Providence was playing (carry the puck, dump it, pass it off to the sides), but they just couldn't execute last night.

Lowell deserved the win they got last night, I thought they outplayed PC for most of the game. These two teams pretty evenly matched. I still don't know what PC was thinking on the Kamrass goal. That pass from Zink never should have made it to Kamrass, though I am glad it did.

What ever it is it drove me crazy.

Yeah, let's NEVER do that power play thought again. It failed more than half the time it felt like. And it was excruciating to watch.
Best attendance in Hockey East this year
That'll change after this weekend, I would assume.

Maybe, but with BC not having any home games this weekend and UConn playing Sacred Heart, I think it'll be difficult (need to average 850 less butts in seats than average, about 4500 each night) to drop attendance below BC.

I didn't realize finishing first in this category meant so much, I'd rather the team win HE instead. :D

Seriously though, its cool that the crowds are getting bigger year over year. I've been surprised by many of the turnouts this season.

I'm sitting here doing a literature search, any excuse to do math will be taken at this point. :p Tried to think of scenarios we would want for the coming weeks to help with the goal of winning the regular season, got a bit disappointed. Hopefully Notre Dame and BC tie this weekend.

Re: UMass Lowell 2015-2016 Season Thread

Have to expect two wins this weekend against ASU. They haven't won a D1 game since 11/14, have been shutout in 4 straight and 6 of their last 8. They also have to play here twice and then at MC on the third night ... tough trip for those guys.

Re: UMass Lowell 2015-2016 Season Thread

Well, I figure it's about time that this thread started. Expectations, once again, are pretty high on campus. I think most of acknowledge that the situation in net will dictate how this season plays out.

Anyone want to venture a guess on the final Hockey East (and overall) records for the Hawks for this season?

I'm wondering if Boyle gets the weekend off?

Hopefully we'll see more of Hernberg (Han-Betty), if for no other reason than to annoy Patman. :p

Would seem to make sense but do you risk Boyle getting cold if he sits the whole weekend? Or would that be a good thing going into a month of 2 game weeks to finish the season?

Hopefully he gets the AIC game off in mid February. So a game this weekend would probably be an ok idea, but since Norm has ridden him this far, not sure if he has any reason to stop now.

Re: UMass Lowell 2015-2016 Season Thread

Meanwhile, UConn is getting manhandled by Sacred Heart tonight, 6-3, with a little under 12 minutes to go in the third. And Lowell lost to UConn twice? Eeeek!

Then again, we've been a victim of Sacred Heart in the past too unfortunately.
