UMass Lowell 2015-2016 Season Thread II

Re: UMass Lowell 2015-2016 Season Thread II

Has anyone started an exodus thread? Usually by now there is a thread listing the guys on the teams eliminated who have left for the pros. Can't find one this yr.

go to eliteprospects. They list all the guys that have left and have signed contracts.

But i had a quick question for the UML faithful....Was rebound control a problem for Boyle all year? i noticed in both games this past weekend he lets out a ton of rebounds. I was very surprised that QU shot every puck so high in the their game against UML. A ton of them hit the glass.

Last year (2014-15) he had significant problems controlling rebounds. He could probably still use a bit of polishing in that department, but the improvement from 2014-15 to 2015-16 was immediately noticeable even at the very beginning of the season. He clearly did a lot of work in the offseason.

I'd actually say that was a bit of a team effort. Boyle definitely improved in the rebound department individually, but also the defense seemed to make a much more concerted effort to get rebounds out of danger quickly and to be in position to clean up those rebounds, whereas in 14-15 those rebounds would linger a lot longer because defenders weren't in good positions which led to so many frustrating goals that year.

Yes i did notice that the defense would get to the rebounds pretty quickly i guess knowing that there was gonna be a rebound coming. Like i said I was just surprised that QU didnt shoot the puck more low esp in the first period on sunday. I know the point is moot since QU won anyway but i was just saying. I would say yes he needs to clean up those rebounds or at least get them out to the boards. He left some juicy rebounds out there.

I think a lot went wrong for Lowell in this game, but Boyle's rebound control had been pretty good for most of the year. Some rebounds are going to happen from time to time, but he was very improved in e.g. directing the puck into the corner and his positioning was far better than the year before which game him the opportunity to make cleaner saves more often. I think the fact that there were more juicy rebounds available than has been usual speaks to how QU clearly had the upper hand.

Thank you for the input. makes sense to me. Im glad he is improving. He seems to be a solid goalie. With some more work he can be a top notch goalie. And yes i wasnt trying to take away from what QU was able to do. Like I said QU plays like the 90s devils. You will win more games then you will lose using that system

I gotta say it is laughable when quotes like this are thrown around. “I look forward to working closely with Greg and his staff to place the Commonwealth’s Flagship hockey program in a position of sustained success in Hockey East and beyond,” Bamford added.

Even though Boyle was HEA Co-Player of the Year, HEA Second Team All Star, 2cnd in the country in minutes played, 3rd in the country in shut outs, 4th in the country in GAA, 6th in the country in save % and took his team to the HEA and NCAA Regional Championship games, I'm sure he'll be thrilled to know that you think he seems solid.

I think he had a valid point. Rebounds were improved this yr but if you had nothing to compare to... Last yr was downright scary. This yr they were much more directed. I bet if you ask any goalie they will always say that is something they have to work on.

Have you seen his twitter? Lots of fist bump emojis.

Seems like a good hire for them. The new AD acted fast and got a coach with D-1 HC experience. It sounds like a complete 180 from the process they went through last time around. It doesn't do Hockey East any good having that team be as bad as it was last season, especially Lowell given we play them 3 times each year.

I agree...it sounds like they got a good young coach...I was simply referring to the "Commonwealth's Flagship Hockey program" comment.

Oh yeah I know, that's why I mentioned his twitter, his tweets are very "fan-boyish". I'm sure he wants UMass to be a better program than Lowell, not sure if that was an intentional dig at Lowell or not.

I infer that he meant that the university was the flagship, not the hockey program.

Re: UMass Lowell 2015-2016 Season Thread II

Bob McKenzie tweeted out that Boyle is about to sign a 1-year deal with Anaheim for next season. Considering that Dwayne Roloson is Anaheim's goalie coach and was at the games in Albany, this shouldn't be much of a surprise.
