UMass Lowell 2015-2016 Season Thread II

Well done! :)

Yeah, scary stuff.

I'm going to put my money on drug dealing. Something similar happened at Lowell my freshman year in the other freshman dorm but that's before campus wide lockdowns became a thing.

Interesting article on pairwise forecasts for teams on the bubble.

Is this site Patman approved? :)

Jim does good work. I still, for completeness want to have two things accounted for in projections... Ties, conf tiebreakers. Playoffs are actually relatively straightforward. Or at least I can account for it.

There's a lot a strong BS in Comp Sci can do that gives my PhD Statistics *** a hard time. I'm not a programmer except that I have to be one.

For you see my signature, I dream of something bigger. That being said, Jim does some strong work and I'd take him over some of the others

UNH and BU tie so BU only gains a point on UML. UML in fourth, 2 points ahead of BU for that all important final first round bye.

NESN has no clue that the UML win against Amherst tonight was non-league, revised standings they put up gave Lowell 2 points for tonight and they just wrapped by saying BU is 4 points behind Lowell when in reality, only by 2.

Re: UMass Lowell 2015-2016 Season Thread II

Sounds like first 5 minutes were kinda rough, last 10 minutes sounded dominating

Yes, it took the the team about half the period to get going. After that they pretty much controlled play. A little sloppy in the third period resulting in a couple goals by Amherst.

Congrats to the team on winning their 20th game of the season. That's five years in a row of reaching the 20 win mark.

Score effect. You're going to see those kind of shot totals by a team that's down by four goals and has been getting embarrassed for most of the game.

The first 10 minutes and the last 10 minutes weren't idea, but Lowell thoroughly dominated the hapless Minutemen for the middle 40. I certainly hope Amherst gives Micheletto an extension!

With Michigan State and Maine giving out 2 year extensions today, one can only hope the AD at UMass wants to follow that trend. (based on the radio interview with Marty during the intermission, I would bet Micheletto is gone though)

What did Marty say?

What did Marty have to say? I think Micheletto has a year left on his contract.

Basically that he has been trying to get Amherst's decision makers to come to a game at the Tsongas so they can see what investing in a hockey program can do. Pointed out that he still gets reports after every home game with attendance/gate figures as well as the merch/food sales. Pointed out to Bob we lead the league in attendance. Basically made a big point of wanting to see UMA compete. According to Bob later in the broadcast, off air Marty was surprised Amherst was still in the game by the end of the third.

Micheletto still has a year, but they have a new AD and all of their winter sports are playing poorly. I wonder when they wrap up paying two football coaches (I think this might have been the last year paying their first coach), that should "free" up some money to get a real coach

A reddit post by an msu fan. As I read more into it I think the poster was actually referring to this summer when he was extended through the 17-18 season http://www.mlive.com/lansing-news/index.ssf/2015/06/contracts_of_tom_izzo_mark_hol.html

Yup. They have a lot of money tied up trying to make that football program work. I was just wondering if they are prepared to buy out another coach. Money seems to be pretty tight for the UMass system. Maybe a donor will come up with the money.

Marty was on the news last night defending the building boom going on within the system.

Great crowd at the game last night.

Agreed. I was impressed considering it was non-league and against the last place team in the league. Over 6,700 there. BC is going to be packed next Saturday night, especially as they were announcing SRO tickets are still available during the game last night. Just hope we don't have the automaton announcer again...seem to get him on Friday nights so hopefully Saturday we'll have the other one.

ZooMass football has always been a conceptual issue of the standing of the university and has much less to do with actual athletics. The hope is that they can use football to jumpstart attention to the school in general. They think this is what UConn did.

I dunno. I think the 1-A football experiment will always be doomed until they accept they're western Mass's school. The closest I think they can get to being more Massachusetts focused is if they build a stadium near, say, Worcester. Otherwise, what's the pull?
