UMass Lowell 2014-2015 Season: The March to March

I also asked why all the timeouts yesterday, and apparently, they're going to do the media timeouts all year, even if the game isn't on TV.

About the game itself, really can't tell much. Tommies were pretty awful. It appeared we have more speed than last year. But individual players, can't tell anything from a game like yesterday.

Re: UMass Lowell 2014-2015 Season: The March to March

I do know from talking to a few long time fans a few sections away in 105 or so tonight that they weren't happy either. They mentioned that somehow Scott Donnolly had come upon them and they voiced their displeasure. They said he mentioned something about adjusting the end of the song or something for more involvement but they still weren't happy. I say it either goes as the post-goal song (but remains of course at other, more appropriate times) or we stick with what appeared to start working tonight with the "sieve, sieve..." near the end of the song that drowned out whatever was supposed to be said.

Scott Donnolly came and visited myself and Andrew Reid, in sec 105, after I bombarded the @RiverHawkNation twitter account with a rant about the lack of Sieve (look back on my timeline if you want to see it (https://twitter.com/umlweatherman). He said they looked at tape from last year and determined that there was a 30-40 sec period of cheering before the Sieves happened and they were going to fill that with the fight song. He did note that the band should have not kept the run-on UMLs that they were doing last night after the music stopped. Andrew and I told Scott that they needed to incoporate Sieves into the after the music part and the band (on the mics) have to be the ones saying it too.

Scott was with Andrew and myself for the 5th goal and agreed that the way it was being done was bad for energy in the building after a goal. I like Scott, and have faith that he will make improvements to how it is being done so that the energy in the building will not be severed on Friday and going forward.

While I am one who loves R&R pt2, I am also one who is open to change if done right, which it was not done right last night.

30-40 seconds before the seives happened? Which ones? The ones from Rock and Roll Part 2 that the entire arena participates in or the ones after the fact that most of the arena doesn't even hear?

The fact that they looked at game tape and watched the way the Tsongas reacts to goals and still decided to change to this song that has no energy makes my head spin. Talk about ***** up a free lunch. Just play the stupid thing at the end of periods and stop messing around with what works.

Hope everyone is ready for Friday night. I wonder if there's enough rafter left for the incoming 26 banners.

Agreed. If it ain't broke, don't fix it. There is/was a good thing going on after each goal with more and more participation.

Agreed. The average fans finally started to get into the goal celebration and they change it. It was a sight to see the entire arena into it and not just the student/alumni sections.

The email I got back today says they plan to keep the fight song after goals, proving yet again that the athletic department doesn't listen to (or frankly care about) about what the fans want.

Whoever had the final say on this issue is just an absolute idiot.

Be great if someone could make a few "Rock and Roll part 2 is greater than Fight Song" signs for Friday. Hint, hint students.

We've been known to create change in the past at the Tsongas, can't see why pressure can't be intensified on this. Or maybe it will die a slow, horrible death as the crowd will be so dysfunctional after a goal is scored, looking around wondering what to do which will turn into ultimately nothing that maybe, just maybe, they'll see how the atmosphere will be so flat that they'll change back. Yeah right, I'm not holding my breath. What a cluster this is.

They probably paid someone a fortune to write that stupid fight song, so I'm not surprised they are trying to force feed it to us. I'm dissapointed to hear the sieve chant is now displaced. I wonder if they are trying to get rid of it because we yell the word "suck"? If so that's weak.

I didn't get a response at all. Not surprised.

You are just figuring out we have idiots running this? They reorg'd last yr and hired all those high caliber D I administration people. They have been screwing up things ever since. I feel bad for Scot D having to work for people who are screwing up all the stuff he worked so to get going and did so well at before they came. Disgusted and wishing I didn't fork the cash over for a season ticket. Nothing worse than having to sit thru something you know is going to go horribly wrong multiple times.

We had 7 goals to figure it out on Sunday and it was an abysmal failure. We ain't getting 7 goals to work it out on Friday. I am embarrassed in advance. We are going to have a whole arena full of clueless frustrated fans- this will be a complete CF when the avg fan tries to react to a goal (hopefully there is one). Instead of looking forward to Friday I have the feeling of watching a train wreck- wanting to look away but can't. Can you imagine watching the fiasco this will be on TV this year? Panning around the arena with fans in suspended animation, not quite sure what to do or more likely doing what ever but not in unison.

I hear they have put the words to the Fight Fluff on the back of the Blue shirts for this Fri. I commented that someone should bring a big roll of tape and put an X across them.

Oh no, that's right. We're on NESN. The crowd is going to look so dysfunctional as compared to when they've shown crowd shots the last few years, it actually looked really good on tv, everyone really into it, in sync, etc. Going to look pathetic on Friday night. It's such a shame and unnecessary. If only they'd compromise with what the fans want...regular song after goals and new fight song at other appropriate times. We're not even saying get rid of the fight song, just don't play it after a goal for the sake of momentum, atmosphere, and energy in the arena. We can see it, why can't the highly paid staff?

And on another note, that student intern who was trying to run the contests, etc. was horrible Sunday. I really hope she was just filling in and Jasmine is back. But I have a really bad feeling that maybe she won't be, another great thing about the game day experience that might be gone. Mookie will be very upset too if she's gone!

Re: UMass Lowell 2014-2015 Season: The March to March

I think we have to admit its not a fight song despite the school calling it that

Re: UMass Lowell 2014-2015 Season: The March to March

I couldnt make the game sunday - do we still have the jazz band at the games, and they are playing the fight song?
