UMass Lowell 2014-2015 Season: The March to March Thread II

Re: UMass Lowell 2014-2015 Season: The March to March Thread II

Looking at the PWR Rankings, Lowell may need to win fri AND Sat to get into the dance, Thoughts?? Either way what Coach Bazin has done has been great. Looking forward to the weekend!!

Re: UMass Lowell 2014-2015 Season: The March to March Thread II

I really wish they'd clear this up once and for all because even the USCHO beat writers are screwing it up (sorry to bag on ya Jim, but if anybody's going to know its going to be you.)

Well, the old chant comes to mind- "Hockey East is fixed!!!" I know it is about business and it isn't about the sport but it is sad to be reminded of it.

Commence the Jack Eichel show. I feel so bad for the rest of that team (being serious) and aggravated that no matter what happens they will talk about him the whole time. They have some guys having really good years who are non-existent if you listen to the commentary. Don't know why it gets under my skin but it does.

They can get in with only a win on Friday but they'd need help. Not all of these have to happen but here are some key things to root for:

MN winning the BIG10 tourney. Any other winner would steal a spot from a top 16 PWR team.
Quinnipiac winning ECAC tourney.
Harvard losing to Quinnipiac.
Colgate losing to St Lawrence but we don't want St Lawrence to win the Tourney.
St Cloud losing. Crappy thing is there's a 3rd place game in that league which will give them another chance to stay above 500.

I created that cheer! :)

Don't worry. He's one and done, won't have to deal with him next year. Sort of like the Revis of BU.

Lil les still chants that. He remembers from when he was little. A piece of history that is lost on the younger ones.

I know he is gone. It just aggravates me. There is no I in team but there is Eichel. He is the only one on the ice, even when he isn't. U wins the Beanpot and instead of talking about the guy who scores they talk about the chosen one. Seeing it is a TEAM sport and he can't be doing it on his own it bugs me. It is also lazy reporting. If they only talk about him they don't need to research anyone else. (boy am I grumpy this AM!)

I been more impressed with the other guys at BU over Eichel....they have stepped up their game a ton and O'Connor has become a solid goalie.

That doesn't mean I don't think Eichel is good but the other players have improved a ton!

The funny thing was a year or two after the cheer originated (FYI - first HE semi in 1985 at Providence Civic Center where, big surprise, the refs totally shafted Lowell who was on its way to upsetting BC), I saw it written on a couple of Lowell players stick shafts in black sharpie.

Rodriques for one is having an amazing year. I liked it better last year when BU stunk. I hope UNH upsets them but I'm sensing a UML-BU final again for the fourth time and probably another 1 goal squeaker either way like the other three.

Agree. But if you listen they don't even mention anyone else. It is a glancing mention and back to the deification. The way they do sports now is pick one person and then talk them to death.

St Cloud losing. Crappy thing is there's a 3rd place game in that league which will give them another chance to stay above 500.

Don't forget you only need to be .500 to get an at large bid, not over .500. Having a third place game may once again screw an NCHC team (it almost did last year). StC would still have a reasonable chance of making it even with a loss in their semi-final, but if they lose twice the .500 or better rule would knock them out regardless of PWR. I hope it happens, so maybe the NCHC would realize the stupidity of the consolation game, which of course we all know is simply a $$$ grab to ensure fans of all teams have a "reason" to buy a ticket for both days.

I am pulling for UML to win twice in Boston. I want them in the NCAAs and while you all hope for them to end up somewhere closes, I'd love to see them in South Bend if they do make it. That way the powers that be at Notre Dame might be able to watch up close and personal a head coach who knows how to get the most out of his players.

I never knew that. I thought it came from when we were at the Tully playing BU. As we broke into their zone they called a penalty on someone who had just landed on the ice from the bench. Not even near anyone. Last few minutes of play. It was so blatantly bad that even I, who at the time was new to watching, could get it was bad. I thought Riley was going to have a stroke.

ON a nostalgic note- I miss McBride- the muffin man, and when Ned Bunyon and Baby Ned were still in it, etc. The Tsongas is cool and all but you really don't get the flavor of things like the Tulley. Then you could hear all the smart a55 things they would say to the coaches and what the coaches said back. Sometimes more entertaining than the game.

Nope. Lowell had a one goal lead and on its way to an upset and a date in the first HE championship game and then they scored again to take a two goal lead but wait, a mystery penalty appears after the goal, goal is taken away, and BC goes on power play, scores to tie and goes on to win game. We were livid and created the cheer right on the spot. Postgame, BC fans come up to us and say they were lucky to win game and thought we got the shaft too.

The next night we lead the PC cheering section against BC in that Terreri OT thriller and the Lowell-PC Alliance was born. Fun weekend.

Miss Fitzy too and how he'd interact with the fans, toss pucks over the glass to little kids during warm ups.

Yesterday the officiating crew got a kick out of a student sign at the beginning of the third, saw them pointing and snickering which was funny. Something about the ref being pregnant as he missed the last two periods, was great.

Not to mention the French Fries at Tulley..... Not sure why they can't replicate them at Tsongas..... :-)

Highly unlikely unfortunately.

How about Shawn Walsh flailing around on the top of his bench at the edge with one foot up on the boards, yelling about some bad call and then losing his balance and falling back out of sight onto the bench. Or when he kicked the crap out of the locker room door, jamming it, and Tully staff needing to somehow force open the door so the team could get out for the next period.

And who needs the Sage Bank Pavilion when you had a keg under the stands and they sold beer for $1 a plastic cup. That was livin'!

Ha! we couldn't read the sign. We kept trying. They need a white board and a very fat dry erase pen.

I miss the Friends room at the Tulley when Friends were real fans and not the money bags. Those people were wonderful! Salt of the earth.
I miss the real fried dough at the Tsongas and the fresh Chocolate Chip cookies. Those were YUM!!

All the food at arenas these days is fake. The pizza at Tsongas isn't even real Sal's pizza.

Reminds me of up in the OHL its all about McDavid, where his linemate Dylan Strome could very well be a first pick in any other year.

I can only imagine how the reporters would have reacted if Eichel had gotten hurt this season.

And that is why I go and eat before or after the game. I rather not risk hockey-related stress eating over food that isn't even the real deal.
