Re: UMass Lowell '12/'13 Season Thread

Good post, thanks for contributing.
Obviously I haven't a clue but personally I thought the guy had a point. If this was last yrs team what you said would have some merit. It isn't last yrs team. Bentley's goalie was pretty good and their team played well. They have one of the top scorers in the country. Granted they don't play BC every day but I don't see the reason to insult them or imply that they are some sort of peewee team.

Re: UMass Lowell '12/'13 Season Thread

There's really been no talk about this yet, but Lowell heads off to play Clarkson tomorrow and Saturday, starting off a four game road trip. Lowell's 2-0 against the ECAC this year, and 4-1 overall in non-conference play. Clarkson is 3-3-1 in ECAC play, tied for 5th and 4-8-5 overall. Interesting to note that they've only given up 3 more goals than they've scored on the year, so expect close games. These are games 2 and 3 of a 6-game home streak for Clarkson.

Their top three scorers are all Juniors, led by Allan McPherson with a 3-12-15 in 17 games. Their leading goal scorer is also a Junior, Jarrett Burton with a 7-6-13, and second is a freshman Pat Megannety with a 5-4-9 in 17. Freshman Greg Lewis has played the majority of games in net, and has 2.67, 90.8% for his numbers.

They do take give up over 6 penalties a game, and kill just 75.9% of their opponents power plays, while at a 15.7% success rate on their own.

Lowell and Clarkson have two opponents in common, but Lowell has a better record against those two, winning at CC and beating Princeton at home. Clarkson lost twice at CC 5-4, and were crushed by Princeton at home 7-2.

Re: UMass Lowell '12/'13 Season Thread

Xmas trip this weekend, looking forward to those -15 degree highs !
Two things that I hope to see, besides 4+ goals/game for the good guys:

Wetmore and Wilson having great start to 2013.
- Wetmore should feel right at home the next two weekends, Swanton (Vt.)
- Wilson can maybe get up to play some old rivals, lets hope coach challenges by matching lines....
The Knights got on the scoreboard late in the second with sophomore Patrick Marsh’s (Oakville, ONT) second goal of the season. Marsh finished off pass play from linemates,
junior Allan McPherson (Kinburn, ONT) and freshman Pat Megannety (Oakville, ONT) with a hard shot from inside the right circle at 15:39.

And of course a doubleheader of hockey with Women vs. Northeastern an opening bill tomorrow!

I agree with you, that Wilson and Wetmore have a great start. History shows us that Wilson builds up in the second half of the season, and hopefully this becomes a trend.

I would also append to your list Arnold. Now, I have only attended two games, and watched online/listened online to the remaining games and from my eyes and ears Arnold really needs to step it up. I hope he can gain some momentum this weekend, and gain some goals.

And thanks Monty for the added insight!

Cheel is a very tough place to play. This is definitely the best OOC game at home that Clarkson has so it should be a great crowd. Not sure if the students will be be back yet but I'm sure the band will be there. I'm predicting a split and hope to catch Saturday's game live.

Does clarkson get back that early?! College isn't some place I want to be on January 5th

ECAC blog writer picking a split (with Lowell winning tonight), while both HE writers have picked a Lowell sweep.

Here we go again. Midway through the second, Lowell outshooting Clarkson 19-8 (9-1 in the second so far), but 0-3 on the power play. Still down 1-0.

Still down 1-0 after two. It sounds like they're doing everything but put it the net. 0-4 on the PP so far.

Re: UMass Lowell '12/'13 Season Thread

Colantone wins the game at 14:53, as Lowell ends up 2-1 up, and wins their fourth straight (having given up 3 goals in that stretch).

Shots were 30-26 Lowell, but the Hawks went 0-5 on the power play (and killed all 4 for Clarkson).

Boy, nothing seems to come easy for this team. They had to kill another PP to end the game, 6 on 4 with the goalie pulled. Hopefully they can make it 5 in a row tomorrow night.

Re: UMass Lowell '12/'13 Season Thread

For the first time this year (and there's something I didn't imagine typing at this point of the year) ... Lowell is above .500.

About time. Lowell needs to step up again tomorrow and grab another win.

Re: UMass Lowell '12/'13 Season Thread

Now we're starting to get some momentum and traction. Need to keep it up.

Lowell now up to 16th in PairWise after tonight, getting back on radar screen.

I want to see (as in, visually) this team play before i get a lot of hope... the pieces are there... but pieces aren't enough.
