Re: UMass Lowell '12/'13 Season Thread

Better crowd than I thought there would be. 10 minutes before game time, the Tsongas was left than 1/2 filled. UML dominated the play and scoring chances. But, for the first two periods both teams skated very hard and the play was exciting. Gillies is a difference maker and I was shocked that he gave up any goals. PC appeared to have gotten away from its game plan in the early third period by taking unnecessarily risks, PC also picked up the hitting and took some stupid penalties (#24) which seemed to sap PC of its momentum. Wilson's game has changed since Xmas, he is back to where he is expected to be, all while playing with an edge that I had never seen. The lack of depth on D still worries me; Bazin seems to be rotating the 5th and 6th D game to game.

That was some open ice hit by Wilson in the 3rd period. I believe he hit #24 (Acciari).

Well that was a weird night in Hockey East tonight. BU gives up another touchdown and loses to NU. BC somehow loses the season series to UMass, and Merrimack and Maine tie. With all of the goals BU has been giving up lately, Lowell needs to get shots on net tomorrow night. I expect we'll see Carr in net, and if they can keep BU to under 3 goals, it should be another 4 point weekend for the Hawks.

Very interesting night in HE. I'm sure Carr will be in net so Lowell needs to play good D and put everything on net tomorrow night.

After tomorrow night it's a home and home with Northeastern and then trips to North Andover and Orono. If Lowell is going to grab a home ice spot now is the time.

I was looking at the schedule and to me they are all winnable... Now, we certainly aren't going to do that... But giving nothing a full effort will mean a nice point pile up. Keep working... I think PC was a gut check after those first two periods... Play wasn't always stellar but there wasn't any let up. They kept their heads up after tossing in the kitchen sink and the work finally paid off

I hope Connor is in net tonight. After his great performance in net versus Providence on Thursday, he deserves to start against BU.

Lowell now 11th in PairWise.

Need to take care of business at BU next.

Same effort as Thursday, minus the last 3 minutes of each period.
Have to make it through the first five minutes of adrenaline that BU should have stored up from that stinker last night.

Re: UMass Lowell '12/'13 Season Thread

I can't decide if it's a good thing or not that BU lost to NU last night. BU has to be ticked off and hungry after losing at home to a cross-town rival with only 3 HEA wins coming in and the game winner by an ex-Terrier to add insult to injury. BU hasn't lost 2 in a row yet this season and they haven't lost 2 in a row at home since last January. All that said their goalies must have a serious confidence problem right now. Maguire gave up 6 goals last night on only 38 shots. Oconnor has given up 12 goals on 73 shots his last two games. Must be a bit of a dilemma who to play tonight. If we can get the jump on them early and get their goalie thinking "here we go again" I think we will win. BU is only a .500 team in 1st periods. They tend to play conservative hockey with only 16 1st period goals scored in 20 games and they are 2-5 in games where they were behind at the end of the 1st. I hope we come out sniping.

Anyone know if there is a way to watch tonight's game on the internet?

Re: UMass Lowell '12/'13 Season Thread

Not to think too far ahead, but I will. A win tonight against what I'm sure will be a ****ed off BU team, will put Lowell 3 points behind BU, with a game in hand and the early tie-breaker.

Make it 9 in a row Lowell!

Re: UMass Lowell '12/'13 Season Thread

Plus a better overall record than BU, a 3-4 spot boost in the polls and a pairwise ranking around 8 or 9! Yeeha go Lowell!

Re: UMass Lowell '12/'13 Season Thread

I fell asleep midway through the 3rd... it was 4-1 at one point, right?!
Yeah. Then 4-2 and 4-3 and we had a 5 min major power play which we sucked on, and they nearly tied it during it. I feel fortunate to have the two points, but we did, and it's 9 in a row now with two must-wins vs NU next weekend.

Re: UMass Lowell '12/'13 Season Thread

Yup 4-1 in the third. Chapie scored shorthanded to make it 4-1

yeah, they all count... the PP thing bothers me more... Lowell has to be ready for teams to play them aggressively... they shouldn't be surprised at this point.
