Re: UMass Lowell '12/'13 Season Thread III

I got a text from a friend that related Chip Malafronte's twitter. Lowell is the Vegas favorite at 8/5 odds of winning the whole thing. QU and cloud at 5/2, Yale 5/1

Re: UMass Lowell '12/'13 Season Thread III

I needed to get a "fix" on some college hockey while biding time on the endless wait for the puck to drop on Thursday, so I watched a good chunk of the UML/UNH NCAA Regional Final. While UML looked really good and was able to smother just about any offensive attack the Wildcats were able to throw at them, I could not help but think how different the game would have been if Goumas and Downing played for UNH. Would the outcome have been any different? We will never know. I like to think that UML would still have punched their ticket to the FF.

Why am I even mentioning this? Because watching the game re-run last night reminded me that it was easy to forget the win over UNH was a little bit easier than it could have been. And despite the majority of national pundits and Las Vegas goons making our Riverhawks the odds-on favorite to win the championship, it is certainly not a "given". Our Riverhawks will prevail, but I doubt we will be pressing any "Easy" button along the way this weekend. (looking at clock) Geez... still over 50+ hours until the face-off!!!!

It was fun while it lasted...
@chnews: Tim Whitehead being let go at Maine. Story soon. News conference at 4
I wonder if Ryan Badger might look elsewhere now? Or one of the other good recruits they have.

Here's hoping Gowz has a non-compete for his final year.

Just got the alumni letter saying there are Lowell viewings for the games going on in Arizona, California (LA and SF), Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Mass (Tsongas and Charlestown), NH, New Mexico, NY (2 bars), Pennsylvania (for those that are at the pre-game but don't have tickets) and DC.

Just freakin' impressive.

Absolutely!

So for those of us who cannot make the trip to Pitt for one reason or another, where is a good place in Lowell to watch the game other than Tsongas where there are plenty of screens, good food, and cold beer?

Why not go to the Tsongas? There'll be a good number of like-minded fans there. But I'm sure Lowell Beer Works will have it on.

I've also been told that the game(s) will be on at Boston Billiards in Nashua.

Most definitely. UML is firing on all cylinders, never seen anything like it in 31 years of following this team. 16 watch parties to date in 10 states plus DC. Alumni and closet fans are coming out of the woodwork all over and it's great to see. The current administrative team in place thoughout the university gets it, sees that it is more than just about hockey, and is using this to elevate UML to heights previously unknown.

If only Bill Hogan had recognized this back in the mid-1990s, maybe the hockey program would have sustained the success it was having, continued to build, and helped grow the university in ways the current administration clearly understands the value of. Unfortunately Hogan hated sports, didn't see the value of them to the university as a whole, and wasn't very creative in growing the university's infrastructure and facilities.

This only makes our degrees whether from State/Tech/ULowell/UMass Lowell all that more valuable.

Wednesday's Lowell Sun is going to have a special section/tab/insert on the team and Frozen Four.
