UMaine Offseason...Belly Up to the Barr Boys

If this is true, WHY would Maine or Duda himself think he could get in..? If he can't get in at other Programs then it makes no sense that Maine would attempt a move like that only to have their request denied. Sounds like or better yet smells like B.S.

I doubt Duda knows much about the clearinghouse, he knows what he was told by Maine. Like I said it’s a rumor, started on twitter, made it to Maine Facebook page. When the kid is on campus for summer school we will know if he is enrolled at UMaine.

I hear what your saying. Just sounds like a rumor that has taken on more baggage with anyone's guess in how in turns out. But if he's in school...then I will think he plays sometime down the line, either 4-6 games into the season or the second semester. If he's on the team...he makes the D-depth that much better.

Counterpoint, there is no "NCAA crime" anyone can commit for which they should feel guilt. This is an organization that has declared players ineligible for eating a cheeseburger but done literally nothing when programs cover-up rapes and murders. It exists solely to ensure that money and benefit funnel to coaches and administrators and not players.

The NCAA could take away the national titles and I wouldn't care. I was there. They happened. Having to remove a banner or edit a record book has no bearing whatsoever on that.

See North Carolina BBall, NCAA is joke

I have a feeling Duda might already be on campus or will be in the near future. Based on last year’s team staying the whole summer, I’d imagine the same is the case this year.

My suspicion for Duda being on Campus already is due to the photo that the Twitter page posted. He is clearly in a Maine jersey, perhaps that is from his official visit but it could mean he is already there. I think we see him suit up sooner rather than later, we have seen plenty of players making it through NCAA clearinghouse lately and the fact that he seemingly had an amateur contract makes me optimistic.

Drew, you’re thinking of Keith Yandle, brother of Brian. Brian played for UNH, Keith was committed to UNH but was academically ineligible, committed to Maine and was never deemed eligible there either.

Let’s hope that is true. Should be great addition to the d corp

My first thought was that it was a photoshop, like a jersey swap that's really common in the pros when guys get traded, but looking at the photo again it does look like it could possibly be real. I guess we will find out one way or another in relatively short order.

Lol that was my thought originally too but it looks too real. If it is photoshopped, well done to the person who did it.

That is Homecoming weekend...Might be a mistake on RPI's part with incorrect date...and then maybe not...but imo I think you'll see it be hockey Friday & Saturday and football Saturday 1pm/versus Long Island.

RPI schedule is correct. Maine Hockey has not been home for Homecoming since October 2016. This allows for both hockey and football to be home without making Saturday a complete logistical disaster.

Is UMaine the only D1 athletic dept. that can't handle 2 sporting events at different times in 1 day? I mean a football game at 1pm and a hockey game at 7pm is not exactly something that seems difficult to deal with.

If Duda is eligible to play....will the naysayers accept it......or will they go on being drama queens about it?

Great if all the boxes are checked to play. He can only make the defenseman a stronger unit, a plus ....as I said before this could be a very tough team to play each and every night.

Duda is on campus right now, I can confirm.
Pretty sure that means he is getting ready for next season. Never seen him play but 2nd round draft pick should mean nfl scouts see something good. Be interesting to see how he fits not just on the team( probably the easy part ) but overall in a very different part of the world.

Different part of the world? Maine and Moscow have a lot in common, lol. Both phkn cold places. I wish the guy the best of luck. Sounds like a really talented D who can move the puck with ease.

Should the ncaa not revisit the major jr and khl rules in light of NIL anyway? I mean the QB for Clemson is probably pulling in more $$ than this kid ever cooda got from the K anyway

With Duda on Campus. Does it mean he can play hockey @UMaine sometime this season(*sitting out a designated amt. of games/ or play second semester)...or can he just practice with the team and begin play next October 2024..?

The fact that he is on campus is a really good sign in my opinion. Also a sign that he has cleared any university hurdles in place.

I’d be surprised if he suits up for the first game but I wouldn’t be surprised to see him this year. I don’t know if the fact that this has generated some buzz on Twitter/News is good or bad for Maine but time will tell.

Taking a chance like this is exactly why we hired Barr in the first place. If this works out, it will be quite the heist. The leadership on this years team should be excellent and I think the leadership group will take this guy under their wing to make sure he’s comfortable.

I know nothing about the technical aspects of this, but since he is here and signed he will play this season. Its very likely we will have him for one or maybe two seasons, so with a short path to the pros Im sure he wouldnt waste his time sitting for a year or even half a season.
