UMaine Black Bears, 2017-2018, reds last stand part 2

On to PC, get a win or a tie there and all will be forgotten. At this point the only thing that matters is getting in the HE tourney and try to get to Boston. Doing that would be a huge success.

Amen! They just couldn't capitalize last night & paid dearly for their mistakes. Swayman played like an average freshman this weekend. We can't expect him to bail us out every game.

Hoping Swayman hasn't hit the wall.

Hes facing 33-34 shots per start on average thats a ton of shots to be giving up for a great hockey club
Yup, he has to save the bacon for sure. They go as far as he goes.

Would you start Bub Friday night? Maine might actually be better off losing. I say this because it is going to be close between Providence and BU and if I'm being honest I would rather play BU. BU has a pretty easy schedule the rest of the way and they certainly could catch Providence. I think giving Swayman some rest might help for the games against UNH and BC. It's a shame we've thrown away so many points at home against bottom of the table teams.

Um...you might want to rethink that one. BU has won five in a row and it is not out of the realm of possibility that they could run the table if they get past Harvard (who has faltered recently: 3-2-3 in their last eight) in the Beanpot tomorrow night. Providence is 2-2-3 in their last seven.

I don't necessarily think Providence is a better team, its more about the matchup for Maine. Maine has done decent enough against BU in recent times but has really struggled against Providence. I'm pretty sure Maine hasn't beaten them since October 2011. If BU gets it together I don't think there is a team in Hockey East with more talent.

Bottom line...stick with Swayman from here on in...PC had a rough go of it @ Vermont this weekend and they will be out to prove there better then there showing this past weekend. Go with the Glue that has kept this team going since being named the #1 in net. He's not tired, he's a goaltender that thrives on playing and seeing shots, keeps him in the game and nothing better then beating PC @ Providence...take here is he rises to the challenge from here on in.

Couldn't agree more.

I'm here to help! :p

Seriously, though, I still harbor a tiny glimmer of hope for Maine, after seeing a pretty weak RPI squad beat Cornell. Almost anything can happen in this curious age of parity. I'm coming around to that, and this situation certainly tends to keep things interesting late in the season.

IDK, I wouldn't even think about that. Maine needs wins of any sort, and they have a puncher's choice vs. anybody in HEA on any given night. They're nowhere near good enough to sand-bag, and I can't imagine playing Rob unless Sway has a broken leg.

(OK, maybe I'd play Sway anyway, if the fracture wasn't displaced... Maine has had lousy 'tending for years, and he gives the Bears a chance to win every night. Rob isn't that guy.)

The rest of the way: Swayman the starter, McGovern backup

Brendan Robbins was Hockey East co-player of the week.

Re: UMaine Black Bears, 2017-2018, reds last stand part 2

I used to see Robbins as a Matt Mangene type.....all skates and no stick. The kid has certainly been working on his hands!

Mangene got hands late sophomore year, Robbins finding them Junior year. Its a good comparison though.

I just looked this up. Mangene had 3 goals his sophomore year and 16 his junior. Six more for Robbins would win a game or two down the stretch!
